Scyze -> Are criticals fair? (3/2/2013 23:27:51)

As the title says, are they fair?

I just had a battle with a CH who had high HP, low Dexterity and Resistance with a good amount of support. He also had Level 7 Massacre who could've been beaten by me if he didn't do a critical damage. The critical damage did 37 to beat me.

I've been getting an average of two critical hits every battle. Most of the time its against me. Its always frustrating to lose just because your opponent because they go a critical damage right at the end.

Criticals aren't meant to happen more than once per fight if no one's a support build/uses 25% crit rate skills. In my opinion, they WERE fair, but there are so many crit cores now that they happen way too often in unpredictable amounts, and it just makes it so the winner is determined by luck now, not skill.

Baron Dante -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/2/2013 23:47:07)

They are entirely fair. As luck is a skill most people choose to ignore, they get mauled by Vriticals and Blocks and Deflects, then bring them up as something that isn't fair. (Stuns and such work on the same logic too)

Yes, you can't directly affect luck, however, you CAN minimize the impact it'll have.

Most players DO realize this, at least on some level. For example, if you run a build that has 95% winrate provided you get a stun, and 50% winrate without... while it may seem like it would work, the build mostly relies on luck. With a 30% Base chance, you are getting the 90% winrate 30% of the time, and 50% the rest of the time. That balances out at 63,5% over time, which isn't really too impressive. Most people would agree you are far better off NOT relying on getting a stun.

Minimizing the effects of luck is something relatively tricky, and the above is just an example of something most people should realize even without trying to aim for minimizing luck.

Yes, there are, and always will be times where you just get taken down by inhuman amounts of luck, but that's just part of the game. If most people lose because of a single block/deflect/crit, for you, it might not be the case at all.

Besides, there are times where I'm literally hoping for myself to NOT block, or hoping to get a Crit. :D

Crits are made to fight tank builds, just like rage. Therefore it is a vital part of the game.

NDB -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/3/2013 0:54:50)

Both Rage and Critical should ignore slightly less. They are completely game-changing in a lot of battles and that's just not reasonable. They are meant to be there, but not when you rely on them or simply win every time because of it.

Trifire -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/3/2013 14:43:11)

crits are fair, if they didn't have crits, then tanks would be running amok.

Mother1 -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/3/2013 15:03:07)

Crits are luck based, and since they can happen anytime to anyone without discrimination I say they are fair.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/3/2013 15:52:57)

Criticals are fair; I'm using a super-tanky merc focus build with infernal android and a strong HP-healing generator, and I can say that if criticals were nerfed then I would be OP, because rage and criticals are the only things that can stop me given I'm using a sword with the energy storm core. Casters would also be OP if criticals were nerfed, because they're meant to be tanky with a higher chance of getting critted against by opponents, and if criticals were nerfed ALL tank builds would be OP. Also, there's nanosteel armor to reduce the damage of critical hits by an estimated 3-ish every time you receive a critical hit.

Fair n' Square

ScarletReaper -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/5/2013 2:31:12)

I don't think crits should be taken out or nerfed, but In the 300 or so fights I've had in the past few days, I have yet to play in a match where either me or my opponents have not critical'd. It shouldn't be happening that much. I'm just saying lower the odds a bit so it happens maybe once every 2 or 3 battles on average.

Drianx -> RE: Are criticals fair? (3/5/2013 2:41:30)

Luck is neither fair or unfair, it's just random, chance-based.
