Hybrid is slightly stronger for the reason of less variety of use compared to mineral and plasma.
With mineral and plasma you can afford to spam one stat to a larger degree compared to hybrid, because with hybrid the max armor bonus you get is 16 including armor.
If you include armor with plasma and mineral you can get a whopping 20 which means technically you can afford to negate 20 defense/res worth of a single type of defense stat point and spam a different one and still have reasonable defense.
This is why IMO hybrid is worse despite having slightly more defense.
As for defense matrix, I don't know why is is outright better compared to energy shield but honestly I dont really care, they aren't a problem to balance so they shouldn't be put in front of other balance changes.
