Nexus... -> My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 20:49:56)

Hello,

I would like to start by saying that I was banned from the forums on the day Omega was released. I had received I think 6 or 7 warning prior to my ban, so it wasn't really unexpected. Anyway, I was sad I got banned at such a crucial moment, but I'm even more upset at the current state of the game!

Cores:
So a big issue I have with Omega, and the reason I really have not been playing, is the developers took this intriguing idea of "cores" and smashed it to pieces. I think one of the biggest problems with the game during Delta (that differenitated it from the other phases), was the luck factor in battles, and the almost unregulated balance. Crits, Blocks, deflects, and stuns make people feel really crappy, and for some people, luck procs (happens) much less than for others. Its not a fair system. I've been around a while, and luck has never had such an impact on this game. Core's outright encourage luck when they promote deflects, crits, blocks and stuns. In fact, out of all the new core's released on release day, I think there was 1 core that did not promote luck. Its really a shame, because by promoting luck you force people into VERY specific "op" builds. That is your current problem with balance in a nutshell. Because crits, block, and deflects break the game SO much, you either have to have a build which ends the game fast enough so that one of them doesn't happen, or a build that utilizes luck to its maximum potential. Now as I said, I really have not played since launch, but I'm pretty sure if you look at the new meta (current trend), you'll see strength and support builds pretty much crushing everything else. The luck factor has sapped the strategy out of this game, and turned the populations mentality into a "join them or die" way of thinking. Well, I know I would rather die any day. I will get to NPC's later, but when you throw a curveball like removing NPC wins (ie. PvE), you better make sure your PvP balance and mechanics are safe and sound....and they arn't, they are worse than ever.

Health:
Health was pretty depressing at launch, and I think it still has issues today. I'm not really sure where the idea of decreasing the increment ratio came from, but I think it could work if luck was not such a huge problem. With the adjusted base HP pools, people are probably now averaging what they were in Delta. However, luck is running rampant, and because people have far less defense/res as they did in delta, but a similar damage output (somehow this was overlooked?), luck is pretty devastating, and demolishes an HP pool much faster than it did in Delta.

Energy:
When I first saw the energy change, I thought it was great. However, now I just think its promoting more of the "1 build pwns all" mentality. Spamming skills is easier then ever, and strength/supp abusers can spend far less on energy, put far more into their respective stat, and get more damage out of there skills without having to sacrifice anything for it. Furthermore, energy draining skills such as emp, or the sidearm core (don't know the name), cause you to lose a turn, which pretty much means you are insta-dead unless you have a 3-turn kill build, or a build that tanks hard!

Luck
I've already touched on most of my issues with Luck in the previous sections, but just to reiterate, Luck plays a very large role in the imbalance we are currently seeing, and the imbalance we have been seeing since at least the beginning of delta.

Review:
The game needs a complete balance overhaul because the current system isn't working. No amount of tweaking, nerfing, or buffing is going to fix the problem. The developers need to go back to the drawing board and start over. Omega has not done anything good for balance, in fact it has worsened the situation. I know a lot of older players were going to come back for this release, and I was one of them, but in its current state I can't imagine having any fun playing this game.

Thanks for reading,

Prophet

I agree with you about the luck. The luck cores are completely unimaginative and when added to normal luck and shadow arts it can completely mess up a battle.

Everything else you said though I don't agree with. The game doesn't need another complete overhaul, balance is not broken that badly. I have been playing a lot, and I can tell you from experience that at the beginning of Omega balance was awful, but it's much better now.

Mother1 -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 21:07:42)

I was wondering why you weren't posting nexus however, with the luck factor thing I can agree with you. While I don't mind some luck the amount in the game is as you said crazy. Luck was more balanced in delta then it is now.

However hear is something else you missed. They forgot to give the new classes their own set of moves. Even with all of your points you brought up if skills are still overlapping there is no way to balance one class without overpowering or underpowering another that shares those moves.

What build do you use? How has it changed? Specifics?

ur going to fail -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 21:28:59)

The solution is simple. Flip the passive cores. Instead +4% TO BLOCK, make it +4% TO HIT. Same with the deflection core, and weapons that increase crit chance, etc. SA should of caught on to this YEARS AGO. Obviously +10% chance to hit is a bit OP of course its gonna have to tweaked.

This won't fix balance, it will fix luck. But this will also make a great foundation for further progress, etc.

Mother1 -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 21:33:29)

@ ur going to fail

We already have the chance to hit core in the form of lucky strike. Plus even if you they made cores like the anti crit core it would be nerfs to the stats that house these effects.

Master Smasher -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 23:07:46)

honestly, I don't mind the luck skill cores,dunno never really crossed my mind since it's a really not much of a help, like 2% crit chance, not really helpful to me that much. Omega just made it tougher for varium players from what I see and emphasized many builds, overall Omega is near failure as a release, but there are some parts which I did like was that the base armors could actually be used as armors which I saw was a major thumbs up

Stabilis -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/12/2013 23:46:15)

I totally wish the skill cores were purely active skill cores, I still do. The luck, plus the luck at lower health than Delta is a "table-flipper" in a single turn.

On health I still suggest higher progressions over level, as it IS still low.

On energy, I agree it promotes terror builds (suicide bombers) to use energy immediately without any sights on the future. As such players are bewildered in longer battles. But, if health were to rise, this would be a minute issue.

Luck is still heavy in influence, but I can only wish that over time it becomes less important.

xGreen Warriorx -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/14/2013 18:34:58)

@Nexus
I'm a CH, and at the beginning of Omega I tried variations of 5-Focus, massacre, 5-focus mass str, and then 5-focus mass supp, which worked the best. After the update OPing supp I used a supp abusing build, and when I got bored of that I went back to my 5-focus mass. After the last update I went back to normal 5-focus after buying the yeti bot, and now I'm using a poison build with the infernal android. Omegas been pretty challenging as far as coming up with builds that work.

The main problem with the luck cores though is the builds with no def and res, and all HP, EP, str and supp (I only briefly used a couple builds like that). These builds are still managing to get consistent blocks and deflects. The block problem only increases with shadow arts.

RabbleFroth -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 12:34:45)

We're exploring some ways to make crits and blocks have less impact than they do now. You'll see the first part of that in the next update.

THANK YOU

Drianx -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 13:02:08)

Do not forget about diminishing deflects too. Of all 3 - blocks, crits, deflects - it's deflects that have the highest chance of occurring.

Otherwise tech would instantly become the most valuable stat by far.

ansh0 -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 13:08:06)

Finally, less luck and more skill.

Mother1 -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 13:34:08)

I will believe it when I see it. No offense to you Rabble but so far most of these balance updates haven't been balancing things but just transferring the OP factor to another stat or in some cases underpowering something that was balanced.

Yo son -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 13:52:53)

@Rabble

To be honest with you, this game is more balanced right now than it has even been. Ok, some aspect of luck is annoying (but luck is no ones friend), for example when you have more stat than a person, I.e higher support or higher dex, or higher tech and your opponent blocks/ crits/ deflects you 2 or more times, this is annoying; but again this is how luck works, having a higher stat increases the probability of having the luck factor favor you, but it doesn't guarantee it. On the other hand most aspect of luck makes sense, when a person is so ignorant to strike directly on a player that has 120 dex, shadow arts, and ninja reflexes and gets blocked over and over again then complains isn't that stupidity? isn't it luck that if the player connects one hit, then they were lucky?

to be honest with you, as long you guys pay attention to the cores you release and don't release something like the Azreal core again, then you guys have already done enough in terms of balance.

That's fair. :)

The Astral Fury -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/15/2013 15:07:12)

So many nerfs everyone lately seems to be using a 5 focus build, honestly thats all I see these nerfs have destoryed build variety a little bit becaus eall i see are 5 focus tanks, the battles take forever and it's no fun fighting the same build, like 5 focus tank build aren't OP, but jeez thats all I see lately.

Midnightsoul -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/16/2013 12:21:32)

Let's just say luck is like karma and karma is a...

Anyways, it happens to everyone and it does need a little nerf, but honestly, the game is still pretty balanced atm.
The only thing I want us new moves for the evolved classes

edwardvulture -> RE: My Thoughts on Omega (3/16/2013 14:37:41)

It feels like the game isn't nearly as fun anymore. Now that people can't have 100+ stats, diminished should be lowered and health and energy should go back to two.
