I think where you can message your friend while they are offline would be a good suggestion.
For Example:
Thing 1 looks through his buddy list.. Finds Thing 2 offline ... Clicks Private Chat.. Says Blah blah
Thing 2 logs on and gets the message .... messages him back
This feature can be used for coordinating home made tournaments, parties, and other player based activities and just to send your friend a message that you wouldn't be able to send them later on during the day.
Or just a good old Good Morning
This feature could increase bonds and friendship its not the gear that keeps players going its the friendships and communication.
