Dual Thrusters -> Invisible to Players (4/5/2013 22:20:36)

For some of us, when numerous amounts of players are in a room, Epicduel just freezes. Then everything moves in slow motion or your browser just crashes.

I suggest make an option to be invisible to other players while on the map. You can still go into Pv, though.

This will:

- Help prevent ENORMOUS AMOUNTS of lag
- lets players doing mission chains travel around unbothered
- enter prize codes faster

Sure.

hmm yes i agree to this, this morning when i logged in and jumped to central station, it was really really REALLY laggy, even low quality setting couldn't help it

Supported (that awkward moment when someone tries to talk to you and you can't see them).

Story of my life!
I like this idea! After an update, it takes a long time for me to load the game on my desktop. On my laptop, its quick.

Supported.

You should still be able to receive buddy requests, private chat requests, and faction invites so you're not completely ignoring everyone around you.

Definitely supported. I know it's an absolute pain with older computers. This would be one way to lessen the lag if needed.

One argument can be made against it, is that "the art is wasted" or something. In this case, that would be the bikes. I don't really agree with that logic (This has come as an argument on things like removing animations from battles in Dragonfable and such.), just throing it out there in case someone wants to make a point of it.

Even if you were to make yourself invisible you are still there and your data will still be counted since you are in the room. I can't honestly see how being invisible would cut down on lag with your data is there.

LatinLover/Martini -> RE: Invisible to Players (4/6/2013 15:58:14)

:O! Love this. I could go incognito. Also this will give Moderators the oppurtunity to be there without being there.

Though this may be a great idea on the face of it, the main cause of the change, as you are suggesting, lag, will likely not be cured by it. For one, the server will still have to load a lot of things to do with your character. The lag usually is not caused by your own character, but by the pure volume of players on the game, the quality of your internet and the quality of computer.

Lag tends not to come from loads of people just sitting about, may be in a room such as Oz where you have a very large volume of people in one place, but for the most part, it will not cause you much lag. The main lag tends to be from everyone using the same function or different functions, for example, after a release, everyone rushing to a particular vendor to check out new items or something of that nature or if the battle system is being very heavily used, that also can create lag. So making an option to make your self invisible may or may not make much difference at all, depending on the amount of people who actually use it.

One major issue is that if you are invisible and start saying inappropriate things, then no one can report you for it. The only solution to that is to say 'well, make it so people who are invisible cannot chat', but then the whole feature is quite useless, since why would half the people use it in heavily populated rooms such as Oz if you cannot chat with it. Yes, it can be used for other things such as shopping and doing missions, but the amount of people doing that... Well, once again, it would make very little difference on overall lag.

If friends want to jump to you, then see nothing, because you are invisible, then it is very confusing. Mods certainly would need to be able to see all invisible people due to obvious reasons, and the issue there is that the server would then have to load up peoples assets anyway. When opening your character page, again, character art would have to be loaded - all in all, the lag cut down on would be so little, and the amount of issues it would cause to do so, it makes it pointless to an extent.

For that reason, I am going to have to lock this up, since it is not something we could possibly implement.
