Lord Thanatos -> HTML Syntax (4/7/2013 21:28:48)

So, as I have been looking at HTML, I noticed that the syntax on this forum is quite similar to that of HTML, like the bold tags ( or vs ). So, I was wondering if it would be possible to change the syntax for links, bold, italics, or whatever for the purpose of helping to teach the users of this forum basic HTML, as they could be learning something as they are talking about computer games. I for one enjoy programming (I am currently learning C), and the forums could help introduce more people to basic programming and syntax.

What the forum uses is a form of BBCode, and the work needed to make this change is likely too much for the potential benefit.(Though I am not an expert on how the forum code functions)

Oh, well if an opportunity arises for HTML to be impliemted, I hope my sugesstion will be considered as it could provide many educational opportunities.

BBCode is the shorthand version of HTML that is standard in most fora. ASPPlayground.NET does allow users to use HTML in their posts, however, it has likely been disabled on the forum due to the feature, which, allows users to embed flash videos, this would create more work for the forum staff and assistants. I presume that, given the age of the forum software itself, it is not possible to select which HTML tags are and aren't usable, as this is an inbuilt feature in most contemporary forum software. That said, given the trouble that HTML might cause for the staff, it is unlikely that the forum coders will ever open up this option, unless of course they find a way to prevent users from using such tags.
