@Axel: Because Dragons are just plain awesome. Near invulnerability due to their scales(no, dragonslayers don't count, they cheat :P), ability to breathe fire, sharp claws as well as being able to stomp you flat, or swallow you whole, a large tail to swipe you out of the way if you attack them from the back, AND on top of that they can fly, tend to have good night vision, and in some cultures, have the ability to tap into magic or the elements, and have near unlimited intelligence(or they might just be dumb animals, depends on the culture). Dragons pretty much have it all, and also wind up looking just plain awesome and majestic at the same time, so their beautiful giant perfect killing machines. What else can you ask for? Chimera: a freak of nature from Greek Mythology that even the Greeks didn't want to stare at, but rather run away in fear from. It's lion, goat, and snake, not exactly awe-inspiring, though maybe disgust inspiring. Hydra: Pretty much a three headed dragon... or more if you cut off a few heads. Some people do consider the hydra to be a dragon, or maybe a subspecies of dragon, though instead of breathing fire they have poison going for them instead. Gorgon: They're ugly, and I'm not even being mean, by definition, their ugly. Or at least the famous gorgon is, Medusa. But their very name means "dreadful", and their depictions tend to be purposely made to be ugly. Yeti: Giant furry creature that may or may not exist and really doesn't have that many special traits other than being large. Pegasus: winged horse, created by Poseidon and Medusa(oh hey, a gorgon!) . So he's a very intelligent horse with wings... okay? Sleipnir(I have to be honest, never heard of this one so I had to google it), um, a horse with eight legs, considered to be the best horse... Pegasus can fly so he's got one up on this guy. Fenrir: son of Loki, often under the misconception to be a werewolf when he's actually somewhat of a wolfgod. Okay, he's the son of Loki, but apparently even though Asgardians are considered to be gods, they aren't exactly pure immortals as they can kill one another. Cyclops: giants with one eye who eat people. Not exactly a great legend, and their often displayed as complete imbeciles and easily tricked(Jason is a famous example). Centaur: half man, half horse, depicted as great archers... And? Pretty sure that sounds like the average character you can find across the map. Pheonix: The capital of the largest (inland) state in the United States!!! Just kidding. A bird whose size may be debatable who dies by fire and is rebirthed from the ashes(depending on legend). This isn't exactly very special, we could have a dragon set a bird on fire, and have a cleric raise it from the ashes and voila, we have a synthetic phoenix!(must be renewed every now and then, but otherwise it's the perfect alternative). All those flaming birds are the commercialized phoenix, and not the actual true phoenix. While clichéd most of the time, nothing really matches up to the standards of a dragon if you really think about it. And their lore gets really interesting, depending on the culture, and really one of the few mythological creatures that actually have every culture having very differing opinions as to exactly what that creature is. Most mythical creatures are either only part of one culture, or part of a few with little to no variation, or part of several with little to no variation. And that, kind sir, is why the dragon is so appealing. Enough about that topic, what I'd like to see is Energize making its way into CC, I wants ta' make that shadow/lighting build better!!!(actually I've been planning to do so for awhile but hey, might as well re-state it)
