If you're being taken to a black screen whenever you log in, this is why:
The problem is with the What's New? page.
After you pick your Character when you log in, you're supposed to be directed there but your screen just turns black since it's apparently 'missing'
If you use the Varium log-in, which is a very helpful minor solution presented by xGreen Warriorx (quote is below), and then press the What's New? button, your screen will turn black similar to when you log in using the normal portal
