It is possible to win without cores, but chances are it will bring your win % down.

In a lot of cases, they give you even more of an edge than enhancements did.

pretty sure i could have bumped the %s for my caster build had i gotten the azrael gun.
could have been very useful for negating the rage robots from many focus builds.

IMHO, cores like Azrael's weapons and others is much more worst then enhancements. During delta, ALL players (vars & non vars) have the opportunity to fully enhance their weapons. Although variums players have a slight advantage because some weapons have higher slots compare to non var. but its not really that huge. Now with delta, with the arrival of these exclusive cores like the azrael will and strike which only available as promo items, it only shows that varium players will definitely have an advantage against non var. So the idea of "variums will only be a shortcut" is not applicable. Varium still plays a very vital role in deciding the outcome of the battle. I know we only need to wait for next year untill azrael weaponns will be available in-game but im pretty sure the dev's will soon introduced new cores that will counter that. And we will agian wait for another year for that core to be available in game, then the cycle will continue. come to think of it. ^^

first 2-3 weeks of omega, I only had a single core( gun active that takes energy), and I did fine. Sure, I got full cores in the end, but I still think no cores gives you better chances then 0 enhancements.

I only have Omega Override cores and generator and curse, not any other cores. First week of Omega I only have Omega Override and curse yet I still win sometimes. So I think no.

You didn't need enhancements in gamma/delta to win, they just gave you a big edge in fights.
And yes, they probably made cores with the intention that most high-level players are fully equipped or nearly equipped with cores. Rather than making new classes, cores are somewhat like a replacement for that. What I don't get is that cores were made because new classes would be too hard to balance, but cores seem harder because they can synergize with an infinite number of different builds and multiple different skill trees, whereas making a single new class or even multiple new classes would have been way easier. Would have preferred new classes as well compared to cores...

EDIT: You don't just need cores, you need the best ones which can only be afforded through Promos

Depends on:
Luck ~ If you crit and block enough in a battle, you do not need cores anymore.
Build ~ Builds like Sup mercs/Dex Mage do not require any Cores, as it already deals heavy damage and can kill you in 2 turns..
Experience ~ Some players are experienced enough to not need cores to win, such as the good f2p players who never had azreals/enchancements etc etc, yet still win.

So i will have to say, sometimes..
