ur going to fail -> Help merc out? (5/12/2013 21:52:08)

I was thinking about skills that could help the merc class, and I thought of this:

This skill works like deadly aim, but buffs aux and gun.

(Doesn't have a name)
lvl 1: +1 gun dmg, +0 aux dmg
lvl 2: +1 gun dmg, +1 aux dmg
lvl 3: +2 gun dmg, +1 aux dmg
lvl 4: +2 gun dmg, +2 aux dmg
lvl 5: +3 gun dmg, +2 aux dmg
lvl 6: +3 gun dmg, +3 aux dmg
lvl 7: +4 gun dmg, +3 aux dmg
lvl 8: +4 gun dmg, +4 aux dmg
lvl 9: +5 gun dmg, +4 aux dmg
lvl 10: +5 gun dmg, +5 aux dmg

Now I know this sounds OP, but I'm thinking about making it a 4th tier skill. This would be merc's 10 skill (9 atm). That means that you most likely won't be able to max it out without seriously draining points off other major skills. This skill would require 37 str, and 37 dex at max, it won't promote str builds a lot because because it boosts aux dmg as well, meaning the extra boost on aux will be wasted.

I think its time for all classes to receive a 10th and final skill. The dev's promised us that with omega they will be able to increase the level cap much faster so a 10th skill will come no matter what (eventually), unless ED dies.

Another idea is to make atom smash increase with dex, it would still require a club. This would make atom smash a much more versatile skill, and would be used more widely. At lvl 1 it would have a 38% dex to EP drain conversion rate. Meaning, 30% of your total dex points will equal how much EP you drain from your opponent. It will increase by 1.5% per level (53% conversion at lvl 10). Lets say 121 dex (33 def) 121 x .53 = 64.13. A EMP at 121 tech drain 58 EP at lvl 10, atom smash if blockable so it should have a bit greater than EMP.

dont support..
its just not the fix a merc needs.
they do need re-empowermentl. just not this

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Help merc out? (5/12/2013 23:54:11)

not supported. This would turn merc into a bland, boring class where everything is straightforward. This would make merc almost as boring as BH and BM, because all you do is attack without a worry of healing because blood lust does the healing for you (in this case, hybrid armor does the tanking for you). I would rather keep merc underpowered (which I disagree with. I don't find it underpowered at all) and fun than make it boring and on par with the other classes.

merc needs the fix for their on-hand, as they are a supposed to be tit-for-a-tat build.
do not buff aux's, but instead increase main weapon and sidearm, at the same ratio as shield.

+1 sword/maul +1 sidearm
+2 sword/maul +1 sidearm
+2 sword/maul +2 sidearm
+3 sword/maul +2 sidearm
+3 sword/maul +3 sidearm
+4 sword/maul +3 sidearm
etc. however, these boosts should not apply to any skill core usage (25% damage refers only to ACTUAL base damage), or active skill. only simple straightforward damage.

If the developers simply increase the amount of rage gain you get from adrenaline I think that alone will make mercs a force to be reckoned with. However, they're currently fine as they are with high tech + bunker/surgical.

The 'magic' to the merc class IMO is the fact that they don't rely on one particular skill, or one certain group/chain of skills. A focus merc can vitalize the power of bunker buster+surgical, as well as berzerker, intimidate, and blood commander. No skill in the merc skill tree is completely useless to one particular build. For example a str BH rarely will use poison, multi, or even stun grenade; that is 3 neglected skills just for one build, this is not true for merc. Focus TLM surgical strike builds are a great example. More than half of the TLM skill tree isn't used for the build.

I'm trying to expose the good sides of the merc class, so that while we are trying to 'empower it' we don't wreck great unique sides to it.

If things continue as they are, merc will become a competitive class. Why? There are more nerfs going on than buffs.
