But what could possibly be OP about this?
Or this?
Obviously none of these are OP whatsoever. 100% confirmed fully balanced

And although the balance was just as bad as it is now, the game surprisingly had a lot more build variety.

Beta was terrible for balance in general, there was a point where mercenaries were literally cannon fodder to the point that we would all laugh and say GG as soon as we saw a merc, regardless of the build.
Beta was ridiculous because of looping and smoke mass.

You say Mercs were OP, heal loopers (TM) were OP and smoke mass (BH) were OP, thats.. almost the truth. All the classes basically were strong and had its own power against a specific class, and weaknesses against a specific class. And IMO, it was better that way than it is now when all players do 5 focus regardless of your class (last time I played atleast, the focus nerf might changed a few things) while 1 class keep having the advantage after each "balance" update.

No, mercs weren't OP, i think you misunderstood the term Cannon Fodder
It means we were godstomping mercs and they had literally no chance to win at all against heal loopers.

Oh, lol. Well, in that case I do not agree with the post. I myself was a merc during beta before class change came and heal loopers was no problem for me, STR BHs were much tougher. Hence why I changed to str BH when class change came. Though, I mainly went for 2vs2 back then as a merc.

Smackie El Frog -> RE: ideas to involve peaple in to pvp (5/20/2013 12:45:44)

I'm with Oba. As a beta merc I was never cannon fodder to TM's or BH's. Sure BH's were trickier to deal with as a Merc, but they were far from cannon fodder. Did you really forget how strong support mercs were or how their strength builds would easily take out heal looping tms? I remember my bezerker without rage was dealing 80+ damage to mages right before they would heal I'd take them out with ease.

EDIT:

Also, IIRC the strongest faction in Beta, TSAAS were mainly Mercs. I don't understand how you came to that conclusion outside of you maybe just finding lots of new players in beta that were mercs. And they had no idea what they were doing so you would 2-3 turn them and move on. But those types of players were not just found in beta but all stages of the game...Noobs=cannon fodder, not the classes.

I remember support mercs, i stopped having problems with them after changing up my strategy a bit, but you're right, i did forget about berzerker mercs. They were indeed pretty crazy.

Dont even start with that, I was a beta non var and for most of beta I was indeed cannon fodder for TMs, BHs, and even var merc's I guess. If the lower levels plus NPCs didn't exist I would have had like a 50% win ratio, maybe you think merc was decent because you slayed non var's and got some free wins. Support merc was decent, str merc yes indeed was decent (~80% w/ NPCs), but no the non var counter parts were terrible.

Non var BH/merc were cannon fodder to everyone with var, and even to non var TMs. Most successful non var TM I was saw was xxmirvxx w/ 88%.

The class(es) was still doing good, even if you got losses as a f2p player. Non-vars overall didnt stand a chance in beta, no matter the class.

You are wrong. Merc was great beause I slayed ALL types of players of all classes and didn't even care to try other classes until the class change option was available. Maybe because you stayed non-varium so long it made you jaded towards your original class.

Anyway, most non-variums were cannon fodder for any varium player hence the major changes to epicduel in Omega to bring them up to the strength of varium players.

comicalbike -> RE: ideas to involve peaple in to pvp (5/21/2013 10:08:23)
