King of Clubs -> Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 3:48:16)

I just heard that all passive skills are going to be made active and I feel that this is a terrible mistake which could end up chasing away a number of the veteran players in order to please newer players who have not shown the dedication to supporting this game that the veterans show every day (my battle portal gamer level is over 90). The subtle, behind the scenes bonuses of the passive skills are integral part of developing any build and have always been a fundamental aspect of success within the game. You've been changing the game so much in the last few months that people haven't had a chance to adjust to the changes before a whole new set of obstacles are thrown in their way.

If you are dead set on this change, then please please please consider the following compromises:

- You could set passive skills to give 30% of their current effect constantly, which can be raised to 100% for 5 turns at the cost of energy.

- You could simply give them a constant frostbite like effect from the start of the battle which drains energy each turn while offering the bonus. Players would be able set each skill into passive mode, (5-30% of effect determined as [determined as (focus level + 1) x 5]) and/or active mode again (costing a turn each time) if they need to conserve energy, or activate/deactivate all of them at once for the cost of 10 energy. When a player runs out of energy, the skills will be automatically turned to passive mode, but should be able to be reactivated by draining a players health in poison-like damage for an amount of hp equal to the energy upkeep cost.

- Both of a players passive skills could be combined into a single skill, reducing the turn cost to get the bonus and opening up room for a new skill in each build. Even in this scenario, the energy cost of the skill should be fairly low and the effect should last through the entire battle.

Thank you for reading, one more time for the record, I would like to see this update idea abandoned completely. If that is not an option, I hope you will at least consider implementing one of these alternatives, or something similar to them.

False! Not every Skill is going to be Active.

Since when did this matter? I am level 72 and I don't care about what level I am and therefore I should get more attraction than the beginners.

If you keep things the same, will you get far? Will you end up getting better if you make mistakes? Huh? This new change could be the one thing that makes the game more balanced and fun than it currently is. Also, seems like you're from the future. You already know the causes this will make so why don't you also tell us other things? Impossible to answer? Then, that's great! You're a human! :)

You want to dump a whole week of work? If you were RabbleFroth or Titan or even Artix, would you just dump away something you've done for a good period of time? If this isn't what you mean, think more carefully. If you mean halt the ideas, than I'll understand.

Ranloth -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 5:09:14)

You don't know how the skills will look like. You have NO information. You're giving them options or you'll quit. You want them to abandon the idea because YOU don't like it without ANY information given.

Sorry, but that's not how it works. Only because you're so-called "veteran player" doesn't mean you're any better than a newer player. You're a customer like anyone else. You stop being one once you stop paying. If they lose you and gain another customer, there's no difference. But the change was suggested before and it was seen as good by certain people (it had potential). Since they'll be active and not necessarily working for set amount of turns (Goony somewhat spoiled it, I think), then you're also wrong about your first point.

Unless you get any information on the update later today, you cannot say it's good or bad and set some kind of conditions for the Devs. Yet alone tell them to ditch their work (time wasted *cough*) and do something else. Totally. If they lose a customer, other will come along. Number of players is going up, they have the data, so "veteran player" like yourself isn't better than anyone else. I'm a Founder, does that make me almighty yet?

Thylek Shran -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 5:53:22)

All we can do is to wait for the realease. Of course it will have a huge impact to the balance
and game behaviour. It can make the game better or worse but we dont know yet.
The update is a balance package and does not only include the transformation of some
passive skills to active skills.

Khalix -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 9:51:39)

Well, they gave a heads up- Wonderful.

Since not all passives will be converted, I can assume that weapon cores would be the most-affected.

I'm thinking that the multi-shot of the Dage guns would be selective, or the Mastery-types would only increase critical chances for that specific activation time- Same goes for the stun core on the aux.

I think armor passives will more or less remain the same.

xyzman -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 11:01:34)

^ maybe you misunderstood. They only said they will make passive SKILLS active, not cores.
@Op: you don't know what they will change, yet you want the idea to be abandoned? It is a bit opinionated imo. Let's wait and see.

Khalix -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 11:18:54)

^

...

I wonder how that would work.

If bloodlust turns into an active skill, it would make it look like Frenzy.
If reroute turns into an active skill, it would look like using the dex boost skill.
If armor skills turn active, wouldn't they just be like beta hybrid armor where you can swap around your defenses?

Then again, these are just lovely assumptions. It would be wonderful if they would give us -what- will be changed so we can give some input rather than the usual:

Oh guys, look, I have an idea for balance.
Quick, get the testers.
*Several tests later*
Let's release this.
*Forums start burning with posts like "This is sudden! We didn't even know this was what you were doing! It's only been -- and this happens?!"*

In other words... It would be -wonderful- if they give us a rough sketch of the supposed output so that the general population would be satisfied.

ale6300 -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 11:32:54)

the update only will help balance if they do another changes like buff armor defenses and change hp progression, and adjust passives to actives, if they only transform passives into active, well, can be possible to kill glass cannnon builds?

Necromantres -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 14:57:54)

How about we see how it turns out first and then we can comment/adjust it?

Angels Holocaust -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 15:15:08)

This reminds me of the time when the Devs removed npcs. They should ask around before ramming it down our throats!!!

The Incredible Hulk -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 15:17:25)

^^

Well this would've happened anyway since they didn't finish everything at the start of Omega so they are doing it bits by bits.

Mother1 -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 15:26:49)

If I am right, it in a few weeks the masses will get over this change and play like nothing has happened just like the rest of the balance chances. Majority of the time complaints only last until the masses adapt to the situation.

Stabilis -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 15:44:24)

All I see from you people is fear.

LatinLover/Martini -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 15:48:00)

Im a veteran player. This update is terrible and ruins everything.

DARK SOUL OF HELL -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:02:27)

cool off every body !!!!
i mean seriously instead of complaining over something you still didn't see or experience you should w8 and check this update and then discuss it .
after all the game isn't balanced at the moment so what's the worst that can happen ?

Calogero -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:05:02)

Kinda retired, Went here to see what the staff had in store for us, saw Active Passives, went Nuhu and decided to stay retired. I wish you all good luck

Ranloth -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:07:03)

I'm a Founder and I see it as a positive change with a little bit of negativity due to possible imbalance. Wait what. What does me being a Founder have to do with it? Nothing. Neither does being a "veteran". (:

Noobatron x3000 -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:37:26)

I'm going to give it a chance however i think its a awful idea. And today i found out a old game i used to play has been released again as a emulator so yeah downloading that as i speak and well If this update go's how i suspect buh bye epic duel hello new game. If by some miracle it gos well It won't make up for the horror of omega however I'll play real casual still and play the emulator alot more. Far better game can't mention names as it isn't AE.

Bloodpact -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:51:27)

Ill never understand people who complain before hand instead of waiting to see if they actual like it.

give it a chance at life !

Xendran -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/24/2013 16:57:40)

Right here is a list of revamps that includes shadow arts, deadly aim, reroute and bloodlust active replacements.
Not so bad after you see the kind of things that can be done with active versions of these skills.

Midnightsoul -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/25/2013 3:08:40)

Honestly, I don't like passives removed since it gives a sense of diversity and definition of a class, but I can live without them. I just wished they kept them....they were...fun.

sky222 -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/25/2013 4:09:02)

About time, now we are no longer constrained to 14-19 skill points! ^_^(I hope, though for all I know they could make mineral +24 or something and give it a turn cost and make it for a whole duel and call the scenario "better" while mineral's still a req)

toopygoo -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/26/2013 7:54:28)

itll give it a big twist, just like omega did overall..
i was first kinda against it, but now, im really looking forward to it.
itll take the mindless click-to-kill mentality away from a lot of quick kill builds, and add a little tactic to them as well

Bloodpact -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/26/2013 12:57:46)

^ should hope so win alot of my fights, that include me just striking 6 times after
everything else.

ED Divine Darkness -> RE: Removing passive skills (5/28/2013 20:28:49)

Turning passives to actives will ruin the game. it will make BL frenzy and Reroute SC.
