Greetings EpicDuelists! Unfortunately there is no release today, but I have emerged from the nest of dry erase boards to give you more details about the upcoming war and talk a little about the planning process. It's sometimes challenging to pick what to say and what to hold onto when certain points are still uncertain, but I shall do my best.

Before The Dread War officially begins, Delta V will be receiving a much-needed facelift. From the Barrens to the Bio Dome, Delta V will be reshaped with the most advanced satellite imaging technology (i.e. drawn better.) with the ability to zoom in on any known region. This will allow quick jumping to individual areas of interest within each region, making navigation much quicker. This quick jumping with be essential for reaching contested areas in the War.

The main focus of the Dread War will be this objective, as seen in the background of the first of many areas of the Dread Plains. This apparatus is the top of a massive control array. What does it control?

The Legion or Exile forces that gain and hold control of this structure will find out. Capturing this array will not be quite so simple, however. In order to have the best chance of taking it, you will need to capture surrounding support structures: turrets, shield generators, propaganda speakers, etc... These structures will confer great benefits to those who hold them and will be essential for turning the tide of the Dread War.

How do you capture these objectives? Battle. You will need to visit the physical location of the objective and queue for battle. Battle victories will award influence, but this time the influence will apply toward the objective's capture bar. Unlike the old Flag system that allows Factions to collect, store, and dump a massive amount of Battle Tokens to secure a flag, these points can only be captured by the collective efforts of all Factions of an alignment. Top Factions will still be honored, but the emphasis will be more on the alignment vs. alignment struggle rather than Faction vs. Faction.

Similar to the Infernal War, everyone will soon be required to choose an alignment. To discourage people from piling on the "winning" team, switching alignment will not be easy so we recommend deciding in advance.


Why Plan?

We want to be very careful with the upcoming Faction War. We have always believed that Factions would be the driving purpose for playing EpicDuel. We've added some features to cultivate conflict among Factions, but it never felt connected. Depositing tokens or firing a cannon at an arbitrary target, while novel at first, never really captured the feeling of all-out war that we wanted to convey. Wars are exciting, but require a tremendous amount of upkeep and preparation.

Our goal with the new war system is to provide ongoing entertainment and excitement for EpicDuelists of all levels and classes, Varium and non-Varium. We want to provide recognition and incentives at the personal, Faction, and alignment levels to motivate everyone to participate. These are lofty goals, but with enough planning, we can deliver a system that meets our criteria and surpasses expectations.

The boards are full and our heads or packed with ideas. Now all that remains is execution. This will be a War to remember -- Delta V will never be the same!

One thing that will disappoint me is if the new levels don't come at the start of the war which is when I will go hardcore, then I will be upset, because maybe half way through the war I cannot play, and cannot level up. That's how they done it last year

The way it says "old" flag system makes it sound like they're changing the flags.

We're currently prioritizing the war, but we'd like to use the development time we'll need for the war to iterate on and test the new skills.

And to clarify, there is not an update today.

A small update with a re-stock to Dage's Cannons would be helpful for some people who couldn't get it last time.

so your still kinda screwing the players that don't wanna join a dumb faction just so they can join an alignment? :/ well that kinda kills any mood i had for participating in this war.
Least unless there is something I'm missing? which I truly hope there is... because seriously forcing people to join a faction just to participate is a silly/ stupid idea ._.

on a side note I'm personally glad the passives are staying passives.. at least for a week I'm still 98% sure that this change to skills will be a absolute disaster balance wise/ gameplay
wise.

and onto topic three about the war.. I'm skeptical about how this will work out ( not to be confused with my general interest about how it will be played out ) i'm just scared this war
will be won by whichever side can abuse the current battle system the best.

sorry If I sound really negative.. I'm just a "see's the cup half empty" kinda guy.

What are you talking about? in each and every legion vs exile war I have seen you had to be on a side to play in it.

If your talking about participating without a faction, then you shouldn't be able to participate. You know why? Because in the storylines, there is no hostiles or people who are abandoned. The story line is only about legion vs exile. Why would it be dumb?

It's like saying about Call Of duty:
Story line between:
SAS Vs Militia
What about the other military unit from other countries? Are they in the war with them 2? No, so it isn't dumb. If ED had something about hostiles or people who are abandoned, then they could've made a war for all.

Because that is how it would be in a war, units/groups/factions/clans of people on the same side would
be working together, not just a whole bunch of people depending on them self, that sounds like the life of a gun-for-hire
,a mercenary. This is not battle of the mercs , it's battle of Legion vs Exile.

Blood pact I think you kinda butchered your own meaning there.. "life of a gun for hire" hmm oh wait!
Mercenary / Tact mercs ~ Holy crap there name is mercenary! obviously they aren't what there name implies right?

Hunters ~ They hunt people... for profit your telling me the legion/ exile wouldn't hire these to take out enemies?

Mages ~ .. well some people see mages as one man armies due to there magical abilities being on par with heavy artillery etc etc...

so you see every class has a backstory/ trait about them as a character that fits in with the "gun for hire" ideal
and when did armies not hire mercenaries? you must not pay much attention to history almost every army EVER used
mercenaries of some kind in there operations.

and on the topic of influence who gives a you know what about influence? this war has nothing to do with influence AT ALL
as the original post declared the winners will be based on cumulative wins for each alignment to take strategic locations located
within the dread planes. It says NOTHING about influence being involved ANYWHERE so your argument is invalid!

seriously.. some people just don't want to be in a faction why should those people not be able to participate? last time I checked that's called "being biased against
a particular group of players within the player base" simple as that.

Legion only has high payers with War Bombs, not really active battlers anymore.
