When it comes to name changes here on the forums, I believe we should have some form of symbol or token next to our name signifying name change. Some people change their name to be similar to their previous however for others who do not, it would be a good way of saying: "I wasn't always ________."

EDIT: Or perhaps there could be a way to show the old name if the symbol thing gets out of hand?

And I can imagine poor Seahawk getting hundreds of name change requests just so people can get said icon.

I'm thinking this is unlikely to happen. :)

Edit: Also unlikely. Seahawk asks that people have a good reason to change their name, and they only get one. That being the case, it would seem to be counter intuitive to publicly advertise a name change. If someone really wanted to let the rest of the forum they had changed their name, they could put it in a sig, or in the name fields of their profile.

As Corvus already alluded to...

For every name change I get that the person is concerned about others knowing who they are and who they used to be, I get two more who are either looking to make a "clean start" with a new identity or who are otherwise trying to remove themselves from the radar so to speak (among other forum members, mind you... Moderators will always know who you were even if you change names because we're sneaky like that). The ones who don't mind letting you know who they were usually do so via signatures or other comments until everyone gets used to their new name.

So yes, it actually serves more people to NOT have a system that automatically flags changed names via an icon or other special symbol.
