NDB -> Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:31:04)

Someone out there--I don't know who decided to make this build popular. Anyways, as always, the masses start their build-copying and now they're everyone. Most of the strength BH's are now gone and have been replaced by this recent uprising. Problem is, their slightly OP. They're unbelievably strong with Bludgeon and Deadly Aim, gain tons of Blood Lust, have a surprising amount of Dexterity to prevent themselves from being blocked (not to mention you get blocked yourself sometimes, seeing as most builds do NOT have more dex then them), have reasonably high support for Deadly Aim so they go first on you sometimes, are actually quite tanky with that high level heal and intimidate, and the Rage-Azrael's Will + Bludgeon is sometimes inescapable. I'm not saying there's no way to beat them, but they are rather frustrating. The build concept is virtually the same as it was in Delta, and we all know how that was like... I'm not going to list ways they could change this because I do believe that there's a chance that they can be stopped, and rather, I'd like to find that out. So, anyone having the same frustration with them and would like to brainstorm ideas of how to counter them?

Mother1 -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:35:49)

No when I run into them I beat them 50/50. I have more trouble with focus BM then strength blood mage since I don't use melee based skills on them too much.

NDB -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:37:55)

What do you mean by"No"? Also, 50/50 isn't exactly good, now is it? And this isn't about focus BMs.

Mother1 -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:42:42)

@ NDB

You asked do I feel the same frustraction as you do with strength blood mage and I answered no.

50/50 may not be good to you but it is to me.

I know this isn't about focus BM I was just stating I have more trouble with that build the strength BM had no intention of derailing your thread.

Mysterion. -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:48:39)

Comical started it, he was the first BM I saw, then the copieng begun..

But actually 50/50 is how it's supposed to be, both equal chance to win.
I don't find them OP, easy counterable with focus builds.

NDB -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 1:51:48)

Elaborate. I am a focus Blood Mage myself--quite a good won, if I say so myself, and they have presented a problem for me.

King FrostLich -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 3:33:40)

I beat them most of the time unless they have the azrael gun that forces me to strike. Their main problem is fighting those tank tact mercs that spam poison or go for infernal android with surgical strike.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 9:56:28)

I'm seeing greatly mixed and different experiences and opinions here, so I think that this is a huge case of rock-paper-scissors with builds, resulting in some people thinking it's vastly OP and others who have little trouble beating the build.

As for me, I think it's a very viable and high win rate BM build, but it's certainly not OP

lionblades -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 11:21:30)

as a BH i lose to BM 99% of the time useless I get really lucky as in 5 blocks
idk why but BM are harder than TLM for me

kosmo -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 13:29:51)

NDB
as a focus blood mage i can say that they are quite easy if u use the right strategy.

whatever i agree whit bm being a bit overpowered, that was a fact even before the masses started to spam it.

ED Divine Darkness -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 16:54:27)

comical didnt start it. also, it isnt that great. beatable by tlm and bounty. not as easily beaten by tec mage ,merc or cyber but still beatable. glass cannons beat it easily. only problem is classes that dont have any way of getting health back without ultimate or heal. it is a build that relies heavily on bloodlust and high damage. as a merc, with high intimidate i can pwn these builds. this build counters classes without shields or health regain, or good passive tanking capability.

NDB -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 17:55:16)

^actually strength BMs slaughter glass cannons.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 18:00:25)

@NDB

Yea true. Intimidate+Energy Sheild= Dead.

NDB -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 18:58:08)

Yeah, but that's Focus BM. With Strength BM you can do it also. 2 Bludgeons+random attack and their dead. Just heal in between and your safe.

VanitySixx -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 19:05:44)

I'm a strength BH and I have no problem with them because they have squishy defenses. Smoke them and then they can't even touch me because of my Dex and SA..

Even my CH just malfunctions them and keeps up the strikes. Not really overpowering them but they don't overpower me.

ED Divine Darkness -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 19:10:46)

ehh, you get my point. it is not op.

Synner -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 19:33:34)

comicalbiker start this build, this build is really not op, i beat them all the time with my ch.

ED Divine Darkness -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 20:16:02)

he didnt start it. i saw him 1v1 with glass cannon one day, then i saw imperial bloody with it.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 21:13:19)

Strength blood mages are weak. They're only good against super tank builds and that's it.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 21:53:49)

@valkyrie: Not necessarily, against lower defense builds a single bludgeon heals 10% of their max health easily.

@ED Divine Darkness: A rage bludgeon by a strength BM will heal massive amounts of HP and take away about half of a TLM's max HP. I don't see how a TLM can win unless they devise a particular counter. Energy shield is pretty useful against TMs and BMs will just bludgeon + deadly aim with blood lust for lots of HP against them.

@NDB: To answer your question in the starting post, this is what I do as a CH. Maybe you can extract some ideas from it, because I can't really do that for your case unless you're the same class as me:

My build is a tank focus, 5 field medic, 7 EMP, max Plasma Armor, 1 static, 3 matrix, 4 malf, 1 plasma grenade, 5 shadow. I have minimum 34 defense and 39 resistance (maximum is around 40 defense and 45 resistance).

Turn 1: EMP for -44 energy
Turn 2: Aux normal (Energy aux)
Turn 3: Generator (+21 health, +9 energy)
Turn 4: IA normal attack
Turn 5: Field Medic
Turn 6: Malf
Turn 7: Aux
Turn 8: Gun
Turn 9: IA special

Azrael's will definitely helps, and so does Improbability gate but you definitely don't need them to win. With this turn order I win about 70% of the time-ish...maybe a little more. If they use azrael's will then it will replace the IA normal attack. I'm using 60 support and a sword so I always go first and can EMP before they do anything too dangerous. Hopefully this helps you find the solution to your problem!

ED Divine Darkness -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/22/2013 22:47:56)

hmmm.
nice strategy

NDB -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/23/2013 2:42:04)

@Exploding Penguin: There's no possible way I can even come close to using that strategy because Blood Mages have no energy drain and must attack to gain health (quite difficult when you have to heal so much while having to put up with their intimidate) unlike CH wich has a passive armor.

On another note, after trying to play as a Strength BM myself, I saw that indeed, they lose to Strength BH and CH... however, for those BMs out there who are saying that they are easy (King Frostlich, kosmo, ValkyrieKnight), I must ask, how???

Mysterion. -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/23/2013 4:51:28)

As a BM, I can tell you that the str BHs aren't that hard.
Intim
Plasma Meteor
Heal
PP special
Gun (Force)
Bludgeon (they can't have you smoked since you forced them and since you got higher dex they won't block fast).

Ain't that hard.

King FrostLich -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/23/2013 4:51:46)

^First turn is always vital and having a slightly higher dex increases your chance to block a strong bludgeon. For me as a BM, whenever I go first, I hit them with either bludgeon or gun first in case they'll use intimidate. If they do use intimidate, you can use bazooka, robot and then field medic(this skips three turns, evading the intimidate debuff) or using intimidate first(renders the strength BM's main moves weaker for 3 turns) and then bazooka and robot. Take note that it isn't a sure win as one single block/deflection can change the outcome of the match. Getting critted is also dangerous and lowers your chance to win against them(though I won but at very low helath left)

It normally takes 4 turns for strength BM's to rage but a single block or deflection lowers it to 3 turns for rage. 2 blocks is an immediate rage on the next turn if you keep hitting them hard. There are risks when you need to heal or keep hitting them to prevent having the health advanatage. The best time to heal is when you anticipate rage next turn or when on less than 1/4th of your health. Sometimes, I decide to keep hitting and eventually win to get the rage faster especially if they decide to heal.

^above mentioned is versus a strength BM as a focus BM.

As for versus CH, it's actually easy if you ask me. If you go first, use your robot(highly recommended is an unblockable attack) to prevent your robot from getting weakened from an incoming malfunction. Afterwards, since they'll use malf anyway, set up resistance shield and use gun, bazooka and robot as your main attacks. If they ever do heal and you have rage, always use meteor strike as your rage to prevent deflections or if you have the Botanical Borg, use its special as an unavoidable hit. If you have rage on another turn, use meteor strike again for another unavoidable hit giving you enough hp to take the advantage. Remember that deflections are your worst enemy as this makes your main attacks ineffective so having high tech not only makes your chance of getting deflected lower, it can power up your bot for a stronger hit.

kosmo -> RE: Strength Blood Mages (7/23/2013 11:44:56)

as a focus bm its not hard to beat them:
u start whit intimidate
if u get intimidated u poison them,if not u just gun
frost shards
heal
gun
rage aux if they dont use chairman
normal bot (or rage bot if they have used chairman)
gun if its needed

make sure to use enought defences, heal and intimidate ( they usually use frost shards, dont let them take out ur heal! )
