Stabilis -> Level Difference: The War (10/6/2013 16:09:31)

Hello again everyone. This is a short post. I am going to address the topic of level differences between players, specifically for balance, in battles.

As you may know, the matchmaking system is not always "fair" for everyone. Max level players only duel people of their level or lower, down to 5 levels. Players that are max level minus 5 and below, down to level 6, duel people their own level, plus or minus 1 to 5 levels. Players that are at the minimum level only duel people of their level or higher, up to 5 levels. Even though this can be unfair depending on which level different players are, this is the natural order, much like natural selection. The goal of the levelling system is to reach the maximum level so that your matchmaking problems are solved. We are not supposed to cater to players whose problem is fighting players at a higher level than themselves. That is biased against all other players, especially when they themselves went through the same levelling process. I like to help any other person as much as the next, but we have to accept the fact that a player of a number of levels lower than another player is meant to be at a disadvantage in battle as they have less stats. Compromising to help players of lower levels is counterproductive to the act of levelling up.

@ Depressed

I read this, and to be honest with you I actually thought of one thing that would be fair to all. However the only problem with this would be the extreme wait times. My solution was to remove the level gap completely and have everyone fight their own level no higher no lower but as I said before this solution isn't without a downside as wait times would increase especially at higher levels where the minority of players are.

i think they could increase the EXP gain against people your own level, as well as higher. not credits though, those would stay.

If we had a big player-base, this would be easily feasible.

This is also a potential course of action to benefit levelling players without affecting combat itself. However, the lack of an equivalent credit gain could off-balance the experience climb, creating higher-levelled poor players, who may not appreciate having a higher level without any credits to fund themselves.

You may need to include more credits with the idea of more experience.

i was just thinking a 3 experience increase to all wins that accout for =to your level and above. nothing drastic, just a feeling of greater reward. i highly doubt that at higher level 3-4 EXP per win allots for a greatly significant levelling rate/compare to/monetary acquirement.

your insight nice, however i feel that its not going to affect the gameplay in a negative manner

I suppose that would depend on how easy it is to manage your money. Before Omega, credits were scarce. Now we have spending cuts towards levelling, so perhaps I did not account for that and extra credits would not be necessary. Just a thought.

tbh i dont have any difficulties with credits. even on a crappy char, i can make 10K in 4 days off just PVP while doing missions for arcade.
im not saying it happens frequently, but i dont grind so much, so i am guessing for those people who got to level 36 in 3 days, they made around 5-60K credits until level 36. its quite possible to reach substantial amounts of credits from battle, as long as your put your nose to the grindstone

that was supposed to be motivational, not argumental .
