Mother1 -> Match up solution (10/31/2013 0:21:22)

As I have been reading the forums I have seen the same topic over and over again to the point where I even see or say myself "Oh look it is this thread again" That is right the match up system for the battle modes.

As the engine is now I know it searches out for players of your own level first, then afterwards if it can find anyone it pulls players higher or lower than you level so you can play as a last resort. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue, however due to epic duel's low sever population as well as there not being enough players to go around, the engine is constantly either pairing players against the same player or players 2-5 times in a row, or mismatching the level range so much that we have people running or crying "How is this a fair fight" or something along those line. As A result of this the forums have been full of topic about this and most of them suggest the same solution which is to cut the level range so that at the expense of longer wait times these lower level will have a better chance of getting a fair fight.

Normally this would be a good solution if we had the numbers at all levels to do this, however we don't. Plus due to a certain change made earlier this year we found out that the player base doesn't like long wait times either which this solution could cause for certain groups of people. While one side is willing to accept this the other side doesn't. Plus not only that there are no grantees that this solution will make side it is for happy either. So instead of shifting punishment from one group of people I have this suggestion.

It would require the staff to reintroduce something they took away, however by doing so it would solve the problem with mismatched fights, and it won't hurt wait times. That is right I am talking about bringing back NPC but in the form of what they did in the infernal war.

It would work like this.

Say if I am looking for a fight, and there is no one at my level range for me to fight. After a certain period of time the system put's in a NPC with a random build (to prevent abuse builds to farm them) to fill in the spot. By doing this no lower level has to be pulled to fight a higher level and visa versa. With this everyone would get a fair fight if a regular player can't be found. As for 2 vs 2 the system could do the same thing however it would only be the following (1 player and one AI on each side or 2 players on one side and 2 AI's on the other no 2 human vs 1 human and 1 AI due to this being unfair to the person with the NPC)

By doing this as stated before whose who cry about not being able to get a fair fight would get their fair fights, and those who don't like waiting will be able to get their matches quickly as well as getting fair fights.

This way there would be no need to think about punishing one group of players for another once again, because as it is now those who want fair fights are getting punished more due to low server number causing the engine to just throw someone in to get the fight started. So what are your thought to this?

If you have any ideas that DOESN'T Involve punishing one group of players for another feel free to add your suggestion as well. We need solutions that will help satisfy both sides.

Sorry, but I really hate this idea unless the NPCs can have a better AI. I also have some other problems with it.

1. This would basically turn into a 1v1 (sort of) because there are only 2 intelligent players in the room facing each other.
2.This mode wouldn't really be a PvP anymore, as it all depends on your NPC (who of which you cannot communicate with)
3. 2v2 is already misleading with jugg. We don't need to add another variable to it.

@ Dual

I got this idea from when they did the infernal war. With that event it did the exact same thing as I am suggesting now (minus the random build for the NPC) and that event had great results. People were playing in that war and it was an enjoyed war for both varium and non varium.

Best of all wait times and match ups were quick and fair. Which was why I figured why not use it for this problem? Our numbers are low right now, and if they due what the several people have been suggesting (cut the level range) It only as I pointed shifts punishment from those who want fair fights to those who don't want long wait times and in all honestly is a very bad band aid to a gaping wound.

As I edited my original post if you have a solution for this problem that doesn't shift punishment from once side to the next you are free to suggest it as well.

It was fun because you had a choice whether or not you wanted to play the "War 2v2" or just a normal match.
