Not so intimidating now, are you, Chairman?

Balance
Another change coming to this Friday's release is a balance update that will specifically address cores. For many builds, it is more useful to use a series of cores than to invest in particular skills and stats. For this reason, we are adding energy costs to many cores. This change will require you to think strategically about reserving enough energy to use all of your cores and necessary skills, adding variety and tactical choice to battle.
This is not the last balance change we have in mind, but because it is quite a big change, we could not fit in any other adjustments this week. Look for more farther reaching changes in the coming weeks.

Storefront Cleaning
Next week, to refresh the Varium store, we are clearing out the following Varium packages:
  • Exile package
  • Legion Package
  • Dread Package
  • Omega Packages
    If you have not already picked up one of these exclusive and powerful packages, now is the time to do so. Next week, they will no longer be available in the Varium store or in-game. Also, the items featured in the packages will be available for resale if you need the extra loot.
    Again, this change is not happening until NEXT WEEK so you still have another week to pick them up before they're gone! We wanted to announce this a week in advance so it didn't take anyone by surprise!

    Most likely to active cores? If it's also for passive cores then that's not good at all. Also, didn't they mention Elon Musk would create the permanent version of the stat cores?(the ones that buff str, dex, tech and supp for 6 points)

    Scyze -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:06:07)

    Yes, I also think the change will be affect the Active Cores.

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:06:14)

    Active. Passive cores are always active and the only "issue" with them is luck complaints, nothing else. Active, on the other hand, are another story.

    I'm expecting damaging cores to get a cost. Defensive will likely remain free - such as Piston Punch, Generator - since it'd be illogical (if looking at the two examples), and the fact defensive cores take a turn to apply an effect + deal no damage (but Piston Punch).

    danirasab -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:07:13)

    Omega packages are going? Awh that is sad ;/. I thought that package would stay until the end of Omega. Why should I worry though; I got it anyways ;D

    I think I'm going to skip all of the seasonal gear until december comes out. I want to see what EDs idea are for the xmas promo.

    And oh yeah the pumpkin hunt will be fun but there are going to be some lazy people that are going to go on youtube to find all the pumpkins. I'm sure that is definitely going to happen. Imagine if the game could only randomly generate pumpkins into another location.

    Mother1 -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:36:47)

    Another suggestion made by the masses is now coming into the game. (the cores actually now costing energy to use) looks like Energy drain moves will be getting an indirect buff due to this change.

    Also most hunt missions? while that does sound fun in itself, I was partially hoping that these items would be item drops in the PVP battles like they did with the egg and spore hunts.

    charwelly -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:37:37)

    Yay new arcade and BAZOOKAS!!!

    ValkyrieKnight -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:50:09)

    Cores requiring energy? An unexpected change that may be very interesting.

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 15:51:31)

    Who thinks Azrael's Will will be hit the hardest? Power comes at a cost, Energy cost. [:D]

    That's actually a neat way to balance it too.

    ValkyrieKnight -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 16:08:17)

    @ Trans

    Would it make sense to add energy cost to energy draining cores? What about passive cores? It would be, interesting to say the least to add a energy cost to them aswell. But then, how would cores like blood lust or reroute work? I really like this idea.

    danirasab -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 16:10:52)

    I think it will be the hardest hit & I think it should require the most energy to use ;D.
    Awh man; there are going to be some drawbacks to Chairmans Pride too, aswell as Azrael will.

    If it was in PVP then I wouldn't bother even playing. This is actually going to be the 1st mission in ages that I will do. All I have to do is go to every location instead of battling ;D. I only do missions that are easy other then that I cannot be asked.

    @Valkyrie

    There are no cores that are like bloodlust or Reroute.

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 16:20:48)

    @ValkyrieKnight
    It wouldn't. Hence why I've said defensive cores will likely remain free, because they only buff you and deal no damage (or fixed to 3). I doubt the DNs are aiming at passive cores, since they are all luck based and "a series of cores than to invest in particular skills and stats" implies it's about the active cores. Luck is probability, and you cannot predict it.
    Look at it this way. Cores are supposed to aid you, but having too many and all having an Energy cost wouldn't make you want to buy them, in fact, they upkeeps would make you not touch them unless you don't depend on Energy at all! Besides, passive cores are always active. What'd be the point of getting them if they aren't really passive? They'd be no different to active cores.

    Random location for the Pumpkin Hunt would be just great. It's probably possible to code but time is limited, but we shall see! But dem EP costs... I wonder if this can truly balance some cores out. And if only offensive cores will get the cost, it's slowly balancing defense and offense, since it's all about high damage now.

    martinsen5 -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 16:46:53)

    Not gonna be using Meteor Strike and other damaging cores if they cost energy... We'll have to see what happens!

    lionblades -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 16:55:05)

    the scavenger hunt looks cool
    Also, didn't the devs say there will be permanent stat booster cores?

    AQisFuN -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:09:54)

    After this change, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of maxed out EMPs around...

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:13:40)

    We've already had a wave of CHs with maxed EMP back in Delta, I think, and everyone claimed they were overpowered. Sometime after, there were fewer EMP-abusing CHs and no nerf was even made.

    I'd not judge too fast. Their cost may be low, and just about good for EP-draining cores. Makes me want to reconsider Piston Punch now.

    danirasab -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:16:09)

    quote:

    As a matter of fact I do ;).
    I have :
    -60 EMP (fully maxed)
    and
    -60 dex (fully maxed)
    and
    BL (fully maxed out
    +
    with 14-17 auxiliary (physical over 40 if -60 smoke).
    and
    Azrael borg ((doing over 35 damage if -60 smoke)and if people put defense matrix).

    Ultra super combo ;D

    Predator9657 -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:16:20)

    Energy costs on cores will be interesting; it's a shame that the poison bot wont get a cost for using the poison attack.

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:26:26)

    Well, then it'd have to apply to all Bots. In fact, it'd be a killer for Gamma Bot since its special attack (Energy) is just 100% damage but unlimited, as opposed to other Bots with effects but one-time only.

    Predator9657 -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:50:33)

    Would it have to? Currently, not all the bots special are of equal power, so not all of them have one-off specials. If some were to have costs, not all of them need to have costs.

    Ranloth -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (10/31/2013 19:53:03)

    Higher power could be translated to higher Energy cost. But if everything was to run on Energy, our current one would be too low - by far. It wouldn't be enough to sustain a tactical use of cores and your cores and skills on top of it.

    rejaylob -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (11/1/2013 0:01:38)

    Does this mean no promo this friday?

    charwelly -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (11/1/2013 1:19:53)

    ^ Probably

    Jekyll -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (11/1/2013 2:32:18)

    I'm already accepting the fact that in a game like this, it's going to be near impossible to achieve perfect balance. I'm getting used to my win rate of around 65-75%, so no complains from me. Any changes, I'll just work my way around them. Looking forward to the arcade though, I have been saving quite a few tokens thus far.

    martinsen5 -> RE: October 31, 2013 - Musk Mania Continues (11/1/2013 3:07:14)

    If players will have to depend on energy in order to use - not only their skills, but also cores, wouldn't this overpower classes that regain energy? Or have energy draining skills with no EP cost? As a BH I'm not exactly looking forward to this update as I have no direct way of gaining energy :(
