It is far too powerful, 50% energy gain? Thats quite a bit.

It removes energy, gives 50% back and improves with Tech.

Smoke also improves with tech, so basically, emp and smoke is the new bounty hunter combo, start with smoke, then emp, gain all that energy back, and remove theres, some classes don't have a huge way to get energy back, like blood mage for example, it takes time for them.

A few things can be done

Make it improve with support, so you can't smoke and emp with extreme effectiveness

Reduce the energy it gives back which is what i would do, 15-30% is good enough.

Reduce how much energy it takes, which isn't what i would do, but it could solve the problem.

Energy is what makes builds thrive, taking away a lot, and gaining a lot, is an imbalance to the delicate balance.

This skill is of much greater use, then the other energy gaining/removing skills, it even takes away more that max battery, because it improves with tech, majority of the builds will take much more away then battery gives, and is more effective then assimilate and static smash

If anyone has any better ideas, please feel free to comment. If you dont like these ideas, please feel free to say so, but remember to explain why you dont like them

1.Just nerf how much energy it takes away. Let it stay with improving with tech.

2.Or make it improve with nothing, and at level 10 it takes away only 35 energy. Fixed amount of energy taken away, like battery backup.

3.Another option would be to keep SG the exact same, and make smoke improve with supp (support builds might arise..)

Notes: making SG improve with supwould NOT solve the problem, 5 focus support builds would still work. Also, reducing the % of energy given back (e.g. reducing it to 25%) should not be considered because energy is essential, SG would be used more like EMP than its actual intent. Nerf to mark of blood should not be considered because it affects BM.

Here is my view.
Regains 50% energy? So assimilate, static smash regains a lot more.
Make it improve with support? That destroys the small synergy the class has between skills.
Make it take less energy? Already takes less then EMP. Also a malf or omega override could make it have less of an impact, since it goes with tech.
This skill is inbetween static smash and assimilate.

i justt fought a lvl 35 bounty:

Hp:105
Mp:can't remember i dont think she added any
Str: cant quite remember exactly something like 20+25
Dex: sorry once again i have short term memory but it's the def that matters
Res:see above lol
Support: i believe it was 45+32 or somewhere around there

the end result was her primary was 10-12, her aux was like 15 or so, she couldnt use a bot but she didn't need to. her def was 20-24 +3 or near that, her res was a lil higher plus 7, i honestly admired her originality but i say that to say this, while her defense wasn't all that great she could deal decent damage while still being able to emp as well as defend herself as her lvl 2 energy shield added plus 26 res and her lvl 5 reflex boost (don't know what it's called now) added around 45 maybe a little higher in dex, so if we did the support idea you'd have made her level 8 (which took 27 mp) emp even stronger and then you'd be even more frustrated

That's because I said its inbetween static smash and assimilate, assimilate is going to be weaker because the class has another way to regain energy. Static smash on the other hand, can be stronger if the merc decides to invest str. Most don't though, so that's why you don't see it often.

There's definitely a high chance that Static Grenade will change next update LMAO. It's too controversial (too many topics flowing in forums about this subject) so there's clearly something not right about it (too strong). Drains too much & steals 50% in just 3 turns you can repeat & all at 0 cost. Out of 10 battles I had earlier on 1v1 battles 6/10 are were Bounties when before update it was just around 2 or 3 so its definitely doubled the population hmm.. I wonder why.


P.s: T. Mages have Assimilation, but its useless now since it got 50% nerfed last update, I don't use it to revitalize my energy pool anymore, I now use it to strip off as much energy possible from my enemies just like they do to me.

lol the majority of my matches all day have still been mages... sorry to burst your bubble, and before last weeks update bounties tended to prefer 1v1 over 2v2 anyway so you're not making much of a point here, you're skipping over the fact that the update prior to this one favored mages so you didn't see a lot of bounties because mages blossomed bounties didn't disappear lol actually i still fight more mercs than bounties and i've done mostly 1v1 to experience the unfairness of the new emp... so far not seein it

@Elite Tuga, and that's how assimilation should be used. You're suppose to use battery back-up to revitalize you're energy pool.

i'm not focused on whose is better i dont care about better that's the whole point the only thing i want better is the experience of all players of all levels and of all classes and i dont get that feeling from you which is why you've chosen your finishing statement however redundant and petty it is as such

You were being cocky because you were so sure that you were right.

I'm also not biased. Just because I use a class does not bias me. If you have read Depressed Voids guide to balance, you shouldn't discuss something if you are biased.

Static Grenade and Static Smash both have a total energy change noticeably higher than my Battery Backup. I find it difficult to compare these skills factor by factor, but so far my Battery Backup (37 MAX energy per 4 turns) is outmatched by Static Grenade and Smash (every 3 turns) which range anywhere from 30 to 60 energy based on the stat layout.

Maybe I need to get screenshots, but this is crazy.

to your first post you haven't really explained how it's overpowered just just that it's a skill that is highly favored by bounties and that you feel cheap using it, could you explain why you feel this way (without stating what it does as i'm aware of that)

Yes, perhaps Battery back-up needs to be higher again, not as much as before, but higher, now that all classes have ways to combat it.

@Void, wait i was not aware tht battery backup was 4 turns, i'd assumed mages were waiting for me but i thought it was three... i think that's one step in balancing mages by putting it on a three turn cooldown (personally i like the idea that only a heal has a 4 turn cooldown)

I have screenshots now, and lucky me I got to battle with a Mercenary and Bounty Hunter in the same fight.

Me, with Battery Backup

Bounty Hunter, with Static Grenade

Mercenary, with Static Smash

My Battery Backup's MAX energy exchange is 37 (37 gained).

The Bounty Hunter's MAX energy exchange is 68 (45 drained + 23 gained).

The Mercenary's MAX energy exchange is 52 (26 drained + 26 gained).


But wait, there is more! Both Static Grenade and Static Smash have a cooldown of 3, Battery Backup has a cooldown of 4. That means:

Per turn, Battery Backup has an energy exchange of 7.4 (37 / 5).

Static Grenade has an energy exchange of 17 (68 / 4).

Static Smash has an energy exchange of 13 (52 / 4).


Why are these numbers so different? They should be closer together, not 31 whole energy points apart (Battery Backup VS Static Grenade) in 1 use!

To be fair, the tech to str wasn't even on the BH and merc.
But I agree, battery back-up should give more energy now.
