In the very near future , week or two at the max, the Gallery itself will dispersed among the various AE game forums and L&L. Your galleries will not be deleted as we will give you time gather your links and formatting from the thread(s) you have. Each game will have its own gallery sub forum for artwork based on or around that game. If you have art that will encompass all or most of the AE games you can use the AEGD Art Gallery. Anything in the Gallery that is not AE game related will be moved to the L&L area once it is set up and ready.

While I think its good to have Art based on the various games separated into their respective sections, and the L&L too, what do you intend to do with the sections such as Anime Works and such since they don't necessarily fall under L&L?

Could they perhaps remain as they are?

Also, what of the Signature Shops?

Smalls -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/27/2013 20:57:03)

As someone who has been using the Gallery since around 2009 and can accredit it to me even being an artist today I have to say that this is a poor choice. The Gallery’s activity has waned, it’s trailed off, and is in general a very low level of activity as it has been for around three years since the first big change and its Purge but it hasn’t died. Even now there are still people posting and getting feedback and interacting. This may be just a forum for AE’s games but there’s still a sense of community that goes along with a forum and that’s what forums are supposed to uphold. There is still a very strong community around the Gallery, people who have used it in the past but may not use it now keep in contact with people they have met through it and everyone who has used it has grown as an artist. This may just be a dispersal but it tears apart its community. There apparently is no other choice than this, but for years the community of artists who use the Gallery have tried offering suggestion to try to help fix the activity problem but most if not all of those suggestions have been ignored (once there was a poll held to vote on the name of the section and there was a winner picked by the community, but even that was ignored). This change is problematic to a community and even on a personal level. As I said before, without the Gallery I wouldn’t be an artist today. I joined it in 2009 hoping to become as good as an artist as I had seen others be and I worked hard to get better and I made dear friends through this and so this change is honestly killing me. Rethink this change because it is an entire portion of the community you’ll be hurting by this and by many other kids who are just like how I used to be, because I am not alone in that story, many others have started art because of this section and trying to disperse it is such a great discredit to the people who actively take part in this community.

Although the traffic around this part of the forum has decrease significantly over the past few years, I personally think that it should remain the way it is; Art needs to be put in a spotlight and the Gallery was the perfect place for it.

Arthur -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/27/2013 23:07:10)

While I feel the staff is justified in moving the AE Games Sections to their respective sections, I feel the Other Works Section and Anime Section should retain their independence instead of getting merged with the L&L.

By moving the sections to the game boards, I feel the respective players can be brought one step closer to this aspect. That way, even the Team might stumble upon the artworks one day.

I myself have been a member of this Section since 2010 and have greatly honed my skills since then thanks the amazing art community.

And yes, I do agree with Smalls on the point that the Staff should think this dispersal over once again.

Scakk -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/28/2013 16:31:02)

Anything not directly game related, Sig Shops, will be moved to the L&L area. They will be in a section under the [L&L] container, so nothing is deleted, just moved. The Gallery people will have a section unto themselves outside the writing section.

Arthur -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/28/2013 20:22:21)

I guess that will have to do although L&L, the section name seems slightly misfitting in that context.

Nevertheless, it will have to do.

Smalls -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/28/2013 21:21:34)

Ok but if I'm not mistaken the L&L has a section for game related fanfics why not move those to the game related areas too. I mean those are just as game related as the art so it makes just as much sense to do that because that's what you're doing here to us.

Eukara Vox -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/28/2013 23:09:37)

Because maintaining the WRITTEN work is much harder, much more thorough and much more time consuming than art. I cannot in good conscience ask the regular AKs in another section with no writing desire or experience to do what my AKs do in L&L. NOT the same thing, nor can it be compared.

In art, the regulations and jobs of the AKs is to make sure the rules are maintained and honoured. In L&L, the work load is much higher, involved and taxing. L&L will not be shared because of that very reason. Pointing fingers and saying "but if so-n-so is doing it..." is not the best argument, here.

Your community, the one that is not involved in games, which seems much more important, since MANY of you have admitted to not even caring about the games anymore, will be able to commune and hang out in L&L, under your own banner, in your own section. It is moved to make certain aspects of management and community easier on everyone, not just the staff.

TheShadowed1 -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/30/2013 1:50:28)

So I've haven't been here in a while (Smalls pointed me this way)

Guess change is happening again. Now it's a double-edged sword, that. From this sounds of it, this won't change much but structurally. The move may stimulate the community, and possibly open doors for a new (and hopefully better) layout. This current one did well enough (I did have a hand in it as an AK at the time ;D), but we could refine it. All I ask from you Euk (who will be our mighty lord right?), is to take our input on changes.

I've been in the art area for over eight years now. This will always be my home. I started in the GoCA, saw the change to the DAaS, and late the many incarnations of The Gallery. Honestly, with each change, activity waned. It could have been the young crop just growing up and moving on (I know I did myself), but it could be said that the changes made weren't done so for the community but for the ease of moderation at the cost of ease of use.

Not to use your words against you, but that is a small thing I fear this time. Yet another shift brought on by outside influences. I echo my earlier point: Consider input. We've been here a while, some of us longer than you've been a moderator, few of us before you even joined the forums :p

Now this is not meant to be inflammatory. Like Smalls said, this place is ours. Yes you gave us the garden, but we blossomed here. In my career here, I met many great people I am still in contact with today. I am just here to protect my kin, I feel I at least owe the place that.

Eukara Vox -> RE: =Info= Gallery Dispersal (11/30/2013 16:31:35)

Like Smalls said, this place is ours.
No, actually, this place is not yours. I do not see your names on the copyright at the bottom of the screen. I do not see your names credited at each game release. I do not see your names above "CEO" in the company ledgers and official reports. This forum is the players' forum. Built for the players so that they can fellowship with other players.

Input is always considered. The problem is, in this section especially, a lot of the input is coming from people who do not participate, play or care about the games. This is, ultimately, a forum that is supposed to support and further the games it is centered around. People who do not care for the games... well, how much pull do you think you actually have?

If the input everyone gives is conducive to game play and participation, it will be weighed. But, there is a time and a place for everything. And right now, the time is making a transition to where the games are center of attention. Those who choose to hang around because this is where they learned and such, will just have to learn to hang out in a place where it is moved.

Those that are complaining who care not for the games, why are you so upset? You will still have all your comforts and forums, just under my management and in a place my AKs, plus the wonderful Pyropuppy, and I can be more vigilant. This move serves many purposes. And there is nothing to stop anyone from being in Gallery select forums and communicate and socialise and support each other. Discussions will still be in "The Gallery". Contests will still be forum - wide announced and in "The Gallery". Many of you are making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

The thing people need to realise is that this forum is now much more game-centric than in the "glory days". People care more about playing the games, mechanics and game community than non-game community. It is the evolution that is inevitable. I have had to sit through at least... 5 changes to L&L in the nearly 7 years I have been here, 3 as a forum staffer in some capacity and two before. This isn't anything new to me. Many of you are forgetting that.

P.S. Pulling in veterans who have not, by their own admissions, been around for some time is not exactly the strongest impression you can give. If anything, such actions only support what I have been saying all along.
