Rui. -> I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 0:52:46)

Ok after the prelude of Omega here are some things that are prominent..

1. Less Players / Less fun
2. Less Players / Same old repetitive builds & matches
3. Less Players / Varium players still beat the hell outta non variums.. so what changed ?
4. Juggernaut is down right impossible
5. Luck still remains and exists but now is running rampant.. at least previously we knew dex = block and tech = deflect now its unpredictable with cores.
6. Less Players . No motivation to play .. the last update we saw some low levels hit 2 vs 2 as they didn't have a record to loose ... indirectly you also hid the records of players who had something to boast .. yes they did spend hoards of $ to get it so they deserve it .

I cant even use different builds.. its strength health and dex for any class. tech mage getting OP with the assimilation thats it..

Ok now where are we heading .... previously we had some new varium package every week. now its 1 in a month .

I see what we are doing here .. making varium meaningful by depleting coins but seriously i see 200 to 600 players.. and reducing ..

I love this game and don't want this shutting down .. Can we have some ideas to rectify this..

Mother1 -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:00:27)

Here is one give the game a complete Jenny Jones make over (meaning everything gets rewritten from block/deflections rates to power of a basic strike) Seriously all these little band aid fixes are only shuffling the flavor of the week build, and the last couple of patches of content really wreaked the game.

The legendary update punishes casual Players (which make up the masses) and rewards only 5-10% of the community.

I know the staff is trying their best to fix the game but TBH I don't think they truly know how, or they do but refuse to do what is needed to do so.

Xendran -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:01:26)

@Mother1

Fun Fact: Once me and Khimera rewrote literally the entire battle system for them and absolutely zero of it was implemented.
The staff are in an difficult position due to their current PR situation. They need to rewrite the game properly to be balanced, meaning they need somebody capable of doing it correctly and logically.
Nearly everybody i know who is capable of this has either been removed from staff, would be unwilling to take the job, or has already found a job in the video game industry with another company.

Altador987 -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:04:54)

xendran how long ago was that, do you still have it by chance i'm just curious to know what you two came up with... and as usual Mother we're in agreement

Xendran -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:06:24)

It's long gone by now, i've gone through 3 compuers since then and didn't back it up, however it contained some pretty fundamental changes. One of them being that defence and resistance were formulaic percentage based reductions rather than flat numbers.
Even ideas that are creatively sound and extremely easy to implement aren't taken too seriously.

For example, you know how classes have overlap skills and that's pretty annoying?
Replacement for Cyber Hunter's Cheap shot: Spark Blitz. It's double strike, but the first hit is always physical and the second hit is always energy. It uses the double strike animation, and the second hit causes the Malfunction sparks to fly out to signify the energy element being used.

How easy would that be to implement? It gets rid of an overlap and brings in a completely unique skill, but requires no new animations. Heck, it could even be linked to your armor with your Armor's def/res determining the percentage of damage that's dealt as physical and the percentage that's dealt with energy.

Altador987 -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:08:33)

aah i see, it's a shame a game that has such potential is stuck in the mess it's in

Xendran -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:19:08)

Another pefect example is one that they themselves brought to the foreground: Skill cores.
Head over into the suggestions section and check out the first post of the skill core suggestion thread. Anything without a name in red beside it was something i added myself.
Check the quality of most of these cores and the new strategies they would bring to battle, especially if they were implemented en masse to allow for a vast amount of different combinations of cores.
Now consider how many of them have been implemented, and the age of that thread.

It's alright to suppliment balance patches with new interesting things (emphasis on interesting) in order to keep your players happy or busy while balance patches are in progress and testing.
The lack of a public testing realm (or even a significantly larger private testing realm) where large changes can be made without damaging the leaderboards or existing characters is a huge detriment to a game that is based around PVP.

If we had a boatload of new cores added and they were balanced with each other (not necessarily in general, but with each other so they were all viable options) the players would be spending a lot more time theorycrafting different builds that revolve around different cores.
And there's something else that they haven't really done much: build enabling cores. Cores that take a specific build style that would normally be nonviable, but enable it to be used effectively.

Critical heal would be the perfect example of a build enabler if heal looping wasn't crazy strong already without it. They could make it so that you absolutely need the bonus healing from critical heal to maintain a decent heal loop. Considering what a high-tier build heal looping is, it would be acceptable for you to have to have a core to make it work, as well as knowing how to use said core properly. Making decisions about whether to wait to heal and whatnot actually becoming important rather than critical heal just being a thing that is just sort of there as a big buff to heal loops.

Rui. -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 1:27:08)

When it comes it testing i guess they never really go into 2 vs 2 .. cause if they did the spider buff wouldn't last for 3 turns .. in 2 vs 2 its hell. FIrst turn spider 2 of them rip u with malf and smoke.. your helpless and die. Easy solution just cleanse it with heal.

Rabble does not show up on the forums.. we have no communication with the staff. Titan and rabble never play.. if they did they would know how badly they get pwned and how broken this game is.. numbers cant really tell you which class is op unless u come down to the players end and see how bad its broken.

Sigh.... why are we trying to make a horse drink water again ?

Remorse -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 3:20:38)

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying.

It seems like cores have been a missed opportunity to actually make the game fun.

Proof being the small amount of actually interesting cores and the plain brocken ones.

Energy at the moment is completely brocken proof being energy manipulation skills being the main determinate on whether or not your class is viable..

The best thing they could do right now is implement new game mechanics that fix balance tipping and variety being restricted.

An example of said feature would be stamina as per my suggestion.

Then like xen mentioned they need to add cores that unlock variety other then brocken unversal cores that harm battle mechanics.
I literally took one look at the azreal and black abyss cores and how brocken they are slapped me in the face so much so that I didn't even want to log in for confirmation.

Have you guys ever played the game Path of Exile?
That game is an amazing example of how variety can be endless and extremely creative.
ED should be implementing cores that provide amazing and almost endless viable variety.

Xendran -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 6:58:33)

I make a lot of references to Path of Exile but i remember somebody getting in trouble for naming other games on these forums (a bit excessive to be honest, but so be it i guess) so i usually refer to it as "other games that use cosmetic microtransactions" or "another game with X that would work well in epicduel"
XendranemesisII Level 80 Nemesis. Facebreaker ;)

Attempted to do an Avatar of Fire version of it but i died four times (39, 43, 50ish and 60ish) on it before i decided to ditch the AoF.
Perhaps what titan and nightwraith need is a bit of a break to test out some other games and learn from them. One problem though, is that a game like PoE has such an extremely high and lengthy learning curve + addiction rate that it would be a massive timesink.

I'm betting you recognized that I refer to PoE vaguely a lot the second i used the term "build enabler" :P
That, and some of the skill cores i suggested. The active core that always hits and never crits should sound familiar.

SummerTime -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 9:56:02)

Wow you really know what you're talking about Xendran O.O maybe you should join the team?

zion -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 10:22:26)

Guessing this will be locked pretty soon... but I don't completely disagree with Xendran... and that's all I'll say here.

Nexus... -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 12:39:03)

PoE is a PvE based game with a PvP element, while ED is a PvP game with a PvE element (recently reintroduced). Furthermore, PoE is an RPG with the option to play with others or alone, while ED is an MMO you must play with other players. There are similarities between the two games, and there are definitely things the developers could learn from other games, but I wouldn't go as far as singling out PoE as the source of all (or many) solutions for this particular game (this coming from a D2/D3 player who has dabbled in PoE regularly), due to various imbalances and differences that come along with balancing PvE vs PvP.

SummerTime -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 14:41:01)

It's been like an hour and no new posts by anyone in any section of the epic duel forums. I guess that just kinda proves Rui.'s point.

GearzHeadz -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 16:16:15)

Rui's point was on the game, not the forums, and many of us were or are still at school or work...

ZanpakuTô -> RE: I Guess this game is Dying ! (1/21/2014 16:21:28)

This is first and foremost a suggestion thread, since the threadstarter is asking you to suggest "ideas to rectify [the dying game]". As such, this thread is being locked. There is a suggestion thread, and we recommend you use it instead of posting your ideas here. Just because you are posting in that thread doesn't mean, or guarantee from what I can see you're expecting, that your suggestion will be implemented. Yes, it is possible that "absolutely zero" of your suggestion will be implemented. There are 93 pages worth of suggestions in the Suggestion board currently, all just in two years. While the sheer number of pages might indicate to them that change is needed, and while they may feel that independent of the Suggestion board, looking through those suggestions, considering the implications, and (get this) incorporating them with whatever plans they have will take time. You are free to guess that they "don't have a plan" but you can't concretely make that statement without everyone's input on the matter (yes, "everyone" means staff too). They should always have the benefit of the doubt.

If you seriously feel your suggestion in the board is worth looking at, poke someone via a social media site and see if they'll take a look. Work on it and push it in front of them. Don't bring it to a place it doesn't belong (here, if you didn't catch that). If you just post a suggestion and leave it, your desire for that suggestion is as good as dead, since you don't do anything else really. Instigate a good discussion and be noticed more prominently.

This looks like a big mass wall of text, and I apologize, but try reading it anyways. Anyways, this thread is now locked
