I recently created a new folder and put PMs into it. Then I deleted the folder. I didn't realize the PMs would be deleted with it. Is there any way to recover those PMs?

Unfortunately, no.

Once a PM is deleted, it's deleted permanently. I suggest using the "Archive" feature next time you want to store PMs - as it's stored directly to your hard disk.

It is also recommended to enable "E-mail notification of new Private Message?" in your profile to have a copy elsewhere of received PMs.

You might try check with the person sent/received the PM if he/she still got a copy of it.

Works fine for me.

Keep in mind that Chrome doesn't support the feature.
