pure tppc -> What happened to old threads in AQ section forums? (2/19/2014 22:41:25)

I remember like years ago there used to be 2008 and older threads. What happened to them? Did old threads get deleted? I'm talking discussion and Q/A threads.

AQGD and Q&A threads from 2008 would have been purged by now with normal forum maintenance. You might find cached versions of threads from that time via the wayback machine, but it's hit and miss at best.

Why delete them? It's useful for future references. Also it brings nostalgia when we wanna look back at the bright classic versions.

Several reasons. Info gets outdated and causes confusion if it lingers around. The server isn't bottomless and keeping every thread over the course of nearly ten years would eventually cause performance issues. It gives a chance for old discussions to die gracefully, and cleans the slate for new discussions. And frankly not every thread needs to be kept for posterity. Keep in mind that not every board gets pruned though. Guides, galleries, encyclopedias and others stay around.

How old do threads have to be in order for them to be deleted? Is there a cutoff date?

It varies from forum section to forum section, some are fast and some are slow.
Active relevant topics aren't going to be lost, if people aren't using them there is a reason for it.

All I can suggest is if you think something is important is personally archive some posts if you think they have valuable information.
