Matt 1000 -> Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 5:42:31)

Everyone was much happier with the balance when passives were around and all the classes work much more effectively i feel like bringing back passives would greatly increase the balance maybe just make them cost mana if they wanted to change it for omega system.

Noobatron x3000 -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 6:57:05)

With passives bhes would rise to the top OP class with tm's marginally behind every other class lagging somewhat.

With actives Tm's are at the top with bhes slightly behind and everyone else lagging behind their really isn't much difference both concepts were broke to be fair.

OverlordED -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 7:07:13)

@Noobatron.
Yes, it is the same thing, but the difference is that with passives, people enjoyed playing the game much more than they do now.
Also, now that actives came instead of passives, I barely have energy in the end of battles, the cost of energy is too high.
Which is why TMs are dominating, they have too many ways of gaining energy.

So Getting back the old passives will make the game more enjoyable. Hell I even enjoyed losing with passives.

Ranloth -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 8:14:11)

Devs have said it won't happen, and the change was justified in terms of balance - explanation, not the execution.

Suggesting it is a waste of your time, because the answer still remains the same - won't happen. NW tweeted it just after the change.

Throwing in some quotes:

Please be patient with balance updates. It's impossible to be evolve without changing. Going backward is never the answer.

Passives seem great. Bonus power for little sacrifice. However, no strategy. Builds become stagnant because you HAVE to invest in passives.

Actives are doing exactly the thing it seemed like he targeted..
and I quote; Builds become stagnant because you HAVE to invest in passives.

the best is give to all classes 1 skill that produce mana from nothing and other that steal.

Ranloth -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 9:37:33)

Confusing explanation with execution, just like I've mentioned.

Did you genuinely believe Passive Armors, which have turned into Shields, will NOT be necessary in the "active world"? The difference is: maxing out passives vs. investing in new actives. You don't have to max them out, unlike passives. This frees up skill points which you can invest elsewhere.
On old system, you had to have L8-10 Passive Armor for best results. My CH and TLM have it at L4, whilst my Merc has it at L6. Old Reroute was often best if L8, but now it works at any level if you know how to take advantage of it (and time it properly). MoB is sorta the same as it was, just active.

If you thought new actives won't have to be invested into, then I'm not surprised by your reaction. For the same reason, why do players invest in Reflex Boost or Technician? For sake of defense. Active version of passive Armors are just the same - difference is just not having to max it out, which on old system was 2 or even 3 passive skills (eating around 20 skill points easily).

Noobatron x3000 -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 9:43:10)

I actually think active hybrid armour is far to effective for the mana it costs and low skill points its practically god mode.

I let it slide because its all mercs really have that's truly powerful and cant be countered.

edwardvulture -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/10/2014 12:04:33)

I don't understand why there are still threads like this when I already thought of a viable way to bring passives back.

s0u1ja b0y -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/12/2014 18:53:04)

Passives being brought back would require epicduel to admit they're wrong, something they'll never do.

Ranloth -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/12/2014 18:56:35)

Or perhaps they want passives gone, because it's justified. Only because players don't like the change, that doesn't make them wrong - in fact, it makes the people who are against it ignorant, because they won't accept others' point of view, and argue their point, not say they are wrong due to simply not liking the change. A bit hypocritical too.

But I guess, if I don't agree with someone, they are clearly wrong and won't admit to it. Ah well.

edwardvulture -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/12/2014 19:20:30)

Actually, they admitted agility was wrong....in how it restricted people in investing in life to the threshold before the next deduction. That was because they didn't have the resources to do anything else. With the 10x system, agility can be put back in-game again with a twist. The flaw they saw in passives was how people dumped all their skill points into them as a requirement to compete. They didn't think of dividing the skill tree up like the way I thought of that would enable each players to keep their passives limit how much they can invest in them.

veneeria -> RE: Bringing back passives (3/12/2014 20:49:20)

Passives were pretty much what used to characterize an class before, at least, they were what made each class unique. Although because they were mixed in with the active abilities, they were treated as such.

Our new actives are not so bad though, though they've acted more as an band aid fix than anything, they've came with their own set of problems and balance issues. (Back to step 1)

If anything, if they ever come back, they should come in another form, in a different skill tree. Give them a bit more attention, allow the tree to form more than one play-style and it will bring along a bunch of variety in builds, while simultaneously, the active skills should also receive an update.
