Name: James Albright Appearance: Tall and thin, with little in the way of tone for his muscles. A long, black mop of wavy hair hangs down to his shoulders, and most of his actual facial structure is obscured by a black beard with two streaks of red hair where his chin likely is. His eyes are what the more poetically-minded would describe as "steel blue" with a shift to green in the center. Usually wears black jeans, a T-shirt with an unbuttoned button-up shirt over it, sneakers, a watch and a necklace, and, if the weather's a bit cold, a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt. Dream Appearance: In his dreams, James is clean-shaven (revealing a defined jaw and a cleft chin) and a bit more muscular than in reality, and his hair is a bit longer. He wears a black pair of pants, black shoes, a green shirt, and a long black jacket, along with his necklace (unlike the one in reality, this one isn't aged) and a pair of glasses. Personality: In class, James comes off as someone who maintains a calm, pleasant demeanor at all times. Outside of class, however, he becomes a cynical, sarcastic, slightly abrasive introvert with a habit of making jokes in somewhat inappropriate situations. People that have known him for a while either ignore him or get to know him well enough to learn he has a low tolerance for people who take themselves too seriously, don't understand sarcasm, or can't look at things for what they are. People that know him better still learn he has been hurt quite a bit by his own bad luck, leading him to keep others at at a distance and trust only a few people. Other than that, he considers himself to be an excellent judge of character, and has been called brilliant for his academic knowledge, shrewd strategic mind, and insight into the problems of others, and it's due to this that, in spite of his somewhat dour temperament, he's actually fairly well-liked. Hobbies: Singing, listening to music, writing, reading, video games, card games, watching anime, cooking, driving, fishing, playing trombone, amateur magician. Family, Friends, Pets: Nichole Albright (Sister): The youngest of James's siblings and his only sister, Nichole has a habit of irritating the younger two of her brothers. Nichole is somewhat popular at school, and takes after James in musical ability, excelling in choir and playing the trombone in the middle school's band. James occasionally takes her to kids movies he has a desire to see. Warren Albright (Brother): The youngest of the three brothers, Warren is dead set on imitating James, but comes out of it looking like a fool. While James exhibits some tact in his sarcastic and cynical manner, Warren seemingly sets out to upset people. He also attempts to dress in a manner similar to James, wearing blue jeans instead of black, no button-up shirt, and a white jacket in the manner of James's black one. All that aside, James and Warren have a somewhat neutral relationship. Owen Albright (Brother): The middle of the three brothers, Owen is rather emotionally volatile, which puts him at odds with people quite frequently. As a child, he would occasionally go from calm to enraged, then break down in tears in less than a minute. Recently, however, he's become quite a bit more stable, possibly due to James's frequent conversations with him, during which he attempts to provide advice. Christine Albright (Mother): James's mother, Christine is a somewhat short-sighted person with a bit of a selfish streak. As with James, she is introverted, but she lets that fact define her, causing her to withdraw from her former career as a teacher for a part-time job at a supermarket in the next town over. This is a point of conflict between her and James's father, who sees her as wasting her potential by not going back to her old job. Before moving out with his father, James provided advice to Christine on multiple occasions, typically on ways to resolve arguments peacefully. Travis Albright (Father): James's father, Travis is a man obsessed with his own worldview. In his mind, anyone who doesn't agree with him is instantly wrong unless they can prove otherwise. He's also a hypocritical perfectionist, instantly calling into question any fault he sees with anyone else while ignoring his own. That said, he is always quick to defend his children, and he's sacrificed quite a bit to give them a decent life (a fact he's quick to point out whenever possible), one of the results of which is almost constantly being at work. Travis and Christine are divorced, caused by near constant conflict between the two. Wayne Gunner (Friend): James's oldest friend, Wayne is one of a handful of people who are capable of seeing what James is actually feeling, mostly due to the length of time they've known each other. Wayne and James don't have many classes together, but they are both in their school's choir. Wayne has told James he is also a lucid dreamer, but hasn't said much more on the topic than that. Wayne also has a decent amount of talent at guitar, but admitted he can't actually read music. Robert "Bob" Allen (Friend): A friend to James since 8th grade, Bob and James were introduced when Bob moved from a nearby town. Initially, the two had very little in common, but they eventually learned they had a mutual interest in music and similar tastes in anime and games, resulting in a close friendship and several highly successful vocal duets. In addition to singing, Bob also plays bass guitar and drums, and he's written a handful of instrumental pieces. Elias Roberts (Friend): A relatively new, but very good, friend of James, Elias is a few years older than James, resulting in a somewhat sibling-like relationship between the two, with James occasionally going to him for advice. House: James's house is actually an apartment he shares with his father, complete with a kitchen, dining room, bathroom/laundry room, and two bedrooms. Room: James's room has very little in the way of decoration. It has a TV and video game system on one side of the room, a desk in the corner, and a bed in another corner, with a closet in which he keeps his clothes. Favorite Colors: Green, Black, Pink. Favorite Foods: Salmon, turkey, sirloin, mashed potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, dark chocolate. Favorite Drinks: Coffee, tea (all varieties), most sodas, orange juice. Favorite Songs: Rock, Metal, Classical. Favorite Animals: Cats, snakes, spiders. History: James grew up in a small town as the oldest of four children. As a result of that, and the fact his parents were almost always busy in some way, he had very little in the way of an actual childhood. He learned to cook at a rather young age, and was cooking dinner for his family on a regular basis by the age of 10. The only other person around his age in town was Wayne, resulting in a fast friendship forming between the two. James was, unfortunately, somewhat isolated as a child, due to his mother's introversion causing her to not take him anywhere, resulting in him learning to adjust to isolation. In high school, his introverted tendencies made him somewhat awkward, but his conversational skills and general wit were enough to make up for it, resulting in him being somewhat popular. This was added to by his classroom abilities and his musical talent. Unfortunately, he knew he couldn't let himself be outright popular due to the social demand that would put on him, so he started to embrace cynicism and sarcasm as defenses, keeping his likability in check and keeping others at a distance. Weapon of Choice: An absolutely ludicrous number of knives, typically wielded with one in each hand with the remainder concealed within his coat, his shoes, and other similar hiding spots. Powers: Knife Throw: Throw a knife with extreme accuracy. Double Knife Throw: Throw two knives simultaneously with high accuracy. Rapid Knife Throw: Throw five knives accurately in rapid succession. Knife Storm: Throw eight knives simultaneously in one direction. Knife Distribution: Throw eight knives rapidly in eight different directions. Disguise: James can change his appearance in the Dream World. Hidden Blade: In the Dream World, James always has at least one knife on his person, regardless of how well he's searched. Anti-Magic Infusion: Can make his knives capable of destabilizing magic. Fake Magic: James is a master at misdirection, picking pockets, palming objects, and other skills magicians and con artists use. Magic Resistance: Magic doesn't work well on James, mostly because he doesn't believe it's real. He's also incapable of using magic. Smoke Bomb: James is capable of crafting and using smoke bombs made of simple, easily accessible materials. Fire Bomb: James is capable of crafting and using bombs that explode into a fiery mess. The materials required are neither easy nor hard to find, but they require careful preparation.
