Okay, I'm not really sure where to put this, but since it's sort of a forum thing I thought here would be good.

Okay, we all know about VS wars, where two or more sides fight each other. In a place where people can be kept from being too bad, we get the AQ Vamp Vs Wolf war, where there was a friendly amity that fueled both sides and caused the closest war in AE history. In places where it can't be kept under control, you end up with the Dage vs Nulgath war, which had mega flame wars and resulted in the AQW staff deciding to never do a person vs Person war again.

What I'm getting at is when there is a war between two sides, it can be fun to throw around some stuff like "We will win this war and turn your side into dog food!" but it CAN go to far.

Thus, I suggest the following:

Basically, a set of rules is made for VS wars that allows a certain level of smack talk and whatnot. However, if things go too far warnings will be handed out or bans issused.

Now I'm not exactly SURE how to make this come about in terms of rules. After all, there is a VERY fine line in what could be considered acceptable and not acceptable smack talk.

Also, I am admittedly assuming that during any VS wars the AK's and Mods are on high alert anyway.

If you have thoughts on the matter post them here.

I think there are two primary reasons why the Dage vs Nulgath war caused so much anger, and why the Vamp vs Wolf war did not.

1: A smaller playerblase. It's pretty obvious that AQ's numbers are probably less than half of AQW's, so therefore not so many people were involved, meaning there were less irrational people in the Vamps vs Wolves. There were less rational people too, but luckily they stayed on the forums.

2: AQW has many younger players, as far as I can tell AQ has primarily an older playerbase now, and thus a more mature one. An 18 year old wouldn't care as much about losing as an 8 year old.

So really, I think the only way this could work, is if you kept it out of AQW. It's just too big, too young, and not ready for it. We saw how it worked last time, I'm sure the staff don't want a repeat of that.

@Amon and Mega: WereXVamp was pretty evenly matched and cordial by comparison, but Clearly you werent around for the EoE/PallyXNecro war... it might have made the Nulgath vs Dage war seem tame in comparison!

But in honest opinion, I dont think there is anyway to stop trash/smack talk that goes beyond a certain line. Sure warnings and rules can be issued, but it wont stop... and it wint really be good if bans are issued to people, since some can go a lot into character sometimes.

@Amon
You forgot about the fact that they removed an oversight that caused a non-Legionnares to gain LTs and that the whole war was pretty much one-sided from the beginning.

Late but eh.

A special set of "smack talk" rules is not likely to happen.
There's plenty of room in a vs thread for good natured rivalry, and Forum Staff sincerely wants Members have a good time.
When good natured rivalry becomes mean spirited, or rules get broken, you can expect Forum Staff to intervene.

There are shades of grey here that people may not agree on: This is good natured and not mean spirited! I meant that comment to be funny not mean! We're arguing but we're having a good time! etc.

That's where we as Forum Staff have to rely on our judgement, experience and the established rules to make decisions. It's easy to believe a special set of rules to govern this would make things easier, but the reality is they'd just be redundant and put too fine a point on something that's largely subjective. As long as you're following the =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules and the Forum-Specific Rules you should be good to go.
