Matt 1000 -> New classes or being able to customize your own skill tree. (4/23/2014 2:02:30)

Many are bored of the old classes and would like some new skill tree combinations. Either new classes or customizable skill trees could really bring ED back to life. If you could customize your own skill tree there could be certain limitations so everyone cant just spam the most over powered skills into one tree.

Supported sounds like a great idea ds.

The problem now is that we are approaching our limits when it comes to builds. We need more possibilities and this could potentially increase those possibilities and Evolve our classes. So I support either idea. Preferably the first one of new classes.

I would go with both: new classes and customizable skill tree.
New classes are self explanatory and there are some ideas around, also there are the classes of other AE games, so no detail here. Regarding customizable skill tree:
- limit it to lvl 40 (at this point players should have enough experience to actually play around with the skill tree instead of just wasting credits/varium for experiments)
- some skills should forbid each other (i.e. armors/buffs/shilds in general should exclude the buff/shild/armor of same damage type, with hybrid forbidding all ; no 2 mana drain/gain skills ; just 2 examples ; otoh, 2 debuff skills could be fun)
- limiting skills to certain tiers (just in case: tier = i.e. heal is a tier 1 skill, surgical strike is a tier 4 skill)

Supported.

^ I love your suggestions on this thread seteriel. I feel as if that would be the best way to do it.

I remember goldslayer1 suggesting custom skill trees sometime ago Matt, however that idea has been vetoed and as for new classes staff already said that won't happen until the first 6 are balanced.

The first 6 classes will never be balanced they have had years to do it this game isn't about balance any more its about restoring the "fun factor" back into epic duel to revive a dying game.

Do you remember for which reasons, if any were stated ?

Was also my first thought.
However, maybe we can achieve more fun with significantly increasing the number of skills per class - especially nice would be more classes too. With more diversity to choose from, we could maybe achieve a paper-scissors-stone system again, where certain builds (str-hp) remain powerful, yet counterable by other builds - which would be a balance in itself, even if skills themselves remain unbalanced.
Devs would need to make up their mind first, though.

@ Seteriel

I remember it was said over an old livestream as for the reasons I don't remember what they were.

Supported.

I used to have a system designed that was a very refined version of this that included categorization of skills with a limit to the number of skills you can have from a given category.

SCAR -> RE: New classes or being able to customize your own skill tree. (4/26/2014 3:16:40)

I agree with this idea, balance is never going to ever be fully operational for every class, there will always be a complaint about something.
New classes should be implanted, or the skill tree should get a new feature, or new skills.

What people are askin for is all classes to be completely equal....that cant happen. One class always has to counter the other. That's balance and that's where we are at. Right now we're just running out of build ideas without paying 50k creds or 900 var to switch classes so we need this idea. Badly
