Hopefully someone will say it, because I can't if I want to keep this suggestion unlocked.
I propose that you should bring back Battle Tokens, make a new system with Battle Tokens and in this system allow every player to be able to buy War Items with these Battle Tokens. What I have seen is that the direct purchase of War Items (such as superbombs) with varium is....unsporting (if you get what I mean). With Battle Tokens being an intervening factor this will even the game out more. Sure, you can make Battle Tokens available to be purchased with Varium, then a player can Purchase a war item. But even if you do that, every player will still have a chance to buy these War items.
Battles or Varium-----> Battle Tokens -------> War Items
In conclusion, every player both Free and Varium will get a chance.
