Combatoid -> Polls & Influence bit (6/24/2014 15:59:33)

It seems like a lot of the decisions that staff made(*cough* Omega) have been very very drastic and sometimes too drastic, which pushes away the major player demographic. I feel that ED Staff/Devs should enable polls on major changes/updates so that they get the critiques from those on the forums and people that actually play their game.. That way they will actually work on important improvements instead of more questlines and fluff(I still think that these additions are great, but they definitely, in no ----------------------- way should be top priority).

I also personally feel that removing gained influence from winning battles is absolute rubbish, and takes away the notion of competition in Factions. I understand that fighting in the war should be a top priority, but removing influence from winning battles is personally just distasteful.

Well you still get influence from war drops, which are obtained through winning battles (or varium).

I doubt a poll would be any use, much less for Balance. The bias of people will be extremely apparent if they'd be allowed to vote on what change they want or don't want. And I'm definitely one of those people (which is why I hate all things balance...). I'm a Tech Mage. More likely than not, I'd vote for any changes that buff the class, or nerf any others.

An open discussion and a little more insight on what balance changes are to come before they go live would help a lot, though, especially for the more drastic changes you refer to. For example, this old thread about bot balance seemed to work well.

^ Very much so agreed, but I personally think it's better than shutting us out entirely when major decisions are made. Personally, I don't want ED making a decision that may ruin gameplay for the people playing the game without at least consulting us about it or getting a second opinion from the players :)
(This way we can give suggestions and point out flaws/disadvantages. I would definitely enjoy seeing the devs reach out to the players and get more input before making huge decisions..)

This wasn't particularly pointed towards the particular Balance of classes, but more towards the key concepts that keep people playing(Influence, drive, etc.). This game has an amazing battle engine and dynamic classes, but after the removal of flags, ratios, etc. there isn't as much to work towards, and the motivation to win battles runs flat.

No offense to that idea but with the way epic duel has been especially in omega that is the last thing needed.

Why because the majority of the ideas put into the game feature and balance while have been from the players and look at where we stand. The game is still broken and not any closer to getting fixed.

This would only make things worse. The staff needs to make decisions for themselves without falling into the subjective trap.

These initial ideas put into the game would've been filtered by thousands of other players if a poll system was in place. They decided to listen to the minority and screwed over the majority, which would've been fixed through public polls that are available to all players. As for the second part, players like myself are optimistic and hope to see ED correct their mistakes and/or speed up the development process. The game is broken because they don't listen to the players and need to learn to consider the majority...

Edit: I'm a grammar Nazi.

@ Combatiod

Thousands of players? Try 500-700 at best.

Also polls are very biased and while some people may care about the game others just want to keep their advantage. All the subjective balance has screwed the game over big time and a poll would make it worse.

Objective balance would be a lot better because as long as the game has subjective balance it will never be balanced.

Let's agree to disagree. (Personally, I don't understand your logic)

These are only the active players online at one particular time. There are probably around 100,000+ total players that could vote(based off of Delta's player count).

Well, here's a good example of something that should ideally be happening for the larger changes in the game. Bias will definitely be less evident for game features... but anyone voting in an in-game poll (I assume it's an in-game poll since you refer to them as "listening to the minority and screwing the majority") would still be ill-informed about anything they're voting about. It's like you're praising a forum thread based on it's title without reading the body.

Discussions also allow players to stick their opinion about the possible feature and possibly make the developers realize something they may have missed. All you'll get with polls are numbers, but that will mean nothing if you still end up with a feature that overlooks some aspects.

Personally, I wouldn't be too unhappy with polls being released for more generalized stuff, not specific to the point that it impacts a feature being released.

Also, 100,000 players is a huge exaggeration. It's been over a year and 11,000 people have voted for Rabble's poll in over a year.

I agree with your idea, not so much it's implementation. But I guess we can also agree to disagree. ;)

And also some of those votes most likely include alts.

Combatoid -> RE: Polls & Influence bit (6/25/2014 19:36:38)

Just to clear up a few "misunderstandings", but 11,000 people voted for a simple poll about which class they thought was the funnest to play with(as I remember), which had almost no application to gameplay and didn't affect the core mechanics of the game directly. The 100,000+ number came out of total accounts created. I think that it's safe to estimate that if the poll will affect the actual player directly in terms of core mechanics(such as the flags being removed, etc.), then people will actually care to vote.

"listening to the minority and screwing the majority" - Implies that they listened to those complaining on the forums(Sadly minority) in particular about their losses showing, and ED staff removing them entirely for everyone.
