I think it was said no dual elements since they would do a dual element tournament im not 500% sure.

Skurge -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 21:22:47)

By banning dual elements, we meant characters like Queen Aegea. I'll have to test around with something like Void Rebirth before discussing with the team.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 21:30:09)

Might as well ban them all since they god mod over there respective element who would stand a chance against void rebirth spamming fire whirl and corruption and iron hides besides queen its just to OP to go against the low def of most fire characters and the skexis and P drake posion spammers that ran through the shadow tournaments?

Skurge -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 21:56:48)

Like I said, I'd have to test around with the characters before I can give a full synopsis. I do have experience with Void Rebirth and I can certainly see him being banned if we ever hold a Fire tournament in the future.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 22:01:17)

@Skurge
We still have light and neutral tournaments to do. I noticed you left out light. I don't really look forward to it though, since greater heal is still a soul gem exclusive card.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 22:18:02)

How come yall can't just ban all dual characters and allow them only in the dual tournament?

Skurge -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 22:51:47)

The Jop: I had a pretty long discussion with the team about Light today. If we end up having the tournament, we'll be banning a lot of characters and there will likely be some CC restrictions as well. Because we'll be having Neutral first, I'll have time to test the characters and make proper rules regarding the tournament.

Gorillo Titan: I don't see why we should ban all the dual element characters. Some of them are viable in duels (e.g: Sentry Lord).

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/14/2014 22:57:01)

Think of it as them not being the same element as the contest it makes since a final tournament that allows any combo of dual element characters not just nuetral/light.

elite dark slayer -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 2:19:55)

Skurge, what's your definition of "dual element"? I can use my SW in the next water tourney, right?

necro rouge -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 4:39:04)

I am just guessing, but i don't think they ban based on just being a duel element, but rather if said dual element is too strong as an individual character. This seems to be the case with Queen Aegea in light tournaments, not sure about others. (Rip my favorite light character)

elite dark slayer -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 4:43:30)

That's why I want to clarify with Skurge.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 7:48:26)

SW isn't dual its a water character.

elite dark slayer -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 8:04:53)

So usable in water tourney, then. Good, that means I won't have to use fisher for next water tourney.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 8:41:37)

Water was the last tournament SW won it.

elite dark slayer -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 8:50:49)

In last tourney dual was allowed as long as it was mainly water, right?

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 9:37:07)

Yeah but it dominated till the final round so me and dylligraphy just used SW.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 12:35:56)

Human fisher is better because it doesn't sacrifice 400 health for 500 damage, instead it can get an extra 300 damage for no cost at all. What really dominated in the tournament was Revonthurkey because people were adding Corruption to it and basically just spamming Corruptions, shields, and Healing Springs. It actually led to the consideration of banning dual element characters, since nothing water had could compete with the efficiency and damage of Corruption. Corruption and Iron Hide make neutral the most powerful element in the game.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 12:49:53)

SW being better than HF is debatable SW has enough shields and healing to keep up at least 1500 deff losing 4 health while still being able to use a healing card to counter the loss of it for no extra energy being spent is a huge plus for SW. Nuetral being the strongest is debatable ice characters can run over nuetral characters.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 12:54:58)

Shields can be easily CC'd though. I guess it's debatable, but I don't think doing 500 damage for 400 health is worth it in PvP. I think neutral has the best defense and offense over time, since they can get 2000 defense for 5 energy and 2000 damage for 10 energy. Sure, iron hide is not permanent, but if you time it well it helps more than shields for less energy.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 12:57:29)

SW can do more damage compared to HF and has more shields in its regular deck.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 13:02:21)

I know, but shields are easy to get in CC (and defend slightly more damage), and I think sacrifice is bad in PvP. The point in a long match like water v.s. water is to outlast your opponent, not giving up your own health to try to out-damage your opponent. Water characters are too weak to ever use a strategy of overpowering their opponent before they're killed, especially when their opponent is also a defensive character (unless they're around level 5).

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 13:06:51)

Pure attack beat heal spamming in water vs water cost to much energy to hold off pure attack learned that when I dueled Clinton.

The Jop -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 13:11:55)

Healing spring is how I was beaten, because everything I did was reversed in 2-3 turns. Pure attack is a bad strategy with water since they have no efficient special cards. The best they can do is 3000 damage for 20 energy, and that's not enough to beat a level 20 water character with 5300 health that will recover 1600 health in the next two turns (and you'll be left with no energy). You can do a pure attack strategy in things like energy where they have efficient specials that raise their damage, but the best water has is a 500 attack, which every element has access to, and is not as good as a lot of elements' specials.

Anyway, it's a matter of perspective, so there's no use use talking about who's right. What water really needs is a DoT, since its most efficient card right now is Water Rapid, which does 400 damage for 3 energy.

The Finnish Phoenix -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 13:36:40)

In my experience heals are the way to go for Water, I had 5 Healing Springs CC'd on my SW against Ph3x and Gorillo in the water tournament and it seemed to work barring certain cases involving 5-hit stuns followed up with more attacks, but it's more likely the attack build will lose too much HP trying to assemble such a combo rather than keeping their defence and HP up.

For a character to be considered dual-elemental it needs to have a charge card (currently Neutralize, Energize or Fresh Start) that charges an element other than their base element (the element they appear as in the inventory). So Revonthurkey would be considered dual-elemental because it's a Water character with Neutralize, but Soul Wyvern and Human Fisher aren't even though they use Sacrifice and Surge because Sacrifice and Surge don't require a second energy pool and they cost 0 energy so they're equally functional with any element.

But yes, dual-elementals have been allowed in every tournament thus far and there have yet to be any banned characters so long as you use a character with the appropriate base element for the tournament. So something like Xmas Elf would not have been allowed in the Water tournament even though it uses Water cards because its base element is Ice.

Gorillo Titan -> RE: =OS= Beta Release Thread 150 - Read the first post! (9/15/2014 13:38:38)

Lightning has no dual elementals though but skurge confirmed Queen was banned.
