Lycan. -> Support-based skill cores (11/1/2014 20:09:12)

Hi guys, I've recently rejoined epicduel after a lengthy and protracted retirement and the first thing I have noticed after returning is the cores.
I've been thinking about some suggestive cores which are based around the support stat.
This isn't a just a suggestion post, but rather a post to collect opinions and peoples thoughts why these adjustments could have a positive/negative effect on the outcome of the game which is why im posting it on this thread.
So basically, as we all know, there are multiple cores revolving solely around the strength stat for example: Meteor shower, Jack-O-Fire and Frost shards and countless other cores that I cannot remember or name from the top of my head.
I was wondering maybe the developers and moderators could implement similar cores to these but an auxiliary version which revolves around the support stat. In my opinion this will increase the advance the game in a very positive way and increase build diversion as there are very little-to-no support builds in the current meta.

~ Discuss your opinions on the positive/negative aspect of this modification.

Exploding Penguin -> RE: Support-based skill cores (11/1/2014 20:24:13)

The problem lies not in cores, but in the way ED was fundamentally made. The most basic of attacks is based off of strength. If this was a MOBA or some other type of game that wouldn't matter, but in a turn-based game it makes it hard to create skills and cores with additional effects that also deal basic attack damage at the same time. Another thing that just made this problem worse was the change in Omega to equipment. There's no longer equipment like Caden's Wrath that traded off strike damage for massive stat boosts.

IMO some cores should stay the same and modify the strength-based strike damage, but some should be changed (an example would be keep meteor shower the same, but change frost shards or something) to deal damage based off of your current level. Scaling with support would be an option too, but really the problem is that it's hard to make a skill like intimidate have its debuff and deal damage at the same time. Removing the damage aspect entirely of debuffs like this would require a buff to the stats of the debuff, and there would be balance issues in completely crippling debuffs, and another problem is making on-hit damage of skills like malfunction and intimidate scale with support, because that turns the skill into a nuke that doesn't require much energy since the energy cost scales with stat debuff, not damage.

Lycan. -> RE: Support-based skill cores (11/1/2014 21:34:10)

Im thinking that the moderators could scale Field medic with HP again, like it used to be back in Gamma.
Reason being is that it won't be as overpowered because there are a variety of skill cores that can counteract support build e.g. Yeti bots can steal aux and sidearm, curse's support reduction etc.
With this heal looping builds will be able to get some recognition and hopefully used as a build to create variation and not be OP as it used to be back in Gamma.
If they don't plan on doing that then support builds should atleast get some support-related cores to help it advance as a build and not remain non-existant as it currently is in the meta.
Would like to see some moderators opinion on this.

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: Support-based skill cores (11/2/2014 0:11:17)

I'm with Lycan on this. Support is not underpowered, it just lacks variety in its utility. Introducing unique cores would be a better way of mitigating this than a complete skill revamp, which usually turns out badly.

Hi Silver Sky Magician
Ive recently tested out a variety of support-based builds on TM, TLM and I can sadly tell you that it may be quite underpowered for these specific classes (they were once the best classes of support builds).
Unfortunately they lack variation and only rely on aux which has a massive cooldown, support doesn't seem as great as it used to be in Gamma when it increased healing and deflection chance and many think that it's not a stat that is worth upgrading anymore just because first strike and crit chance doesn't seem to be on par with dex or tech which give armor and magic resistance as well as block/deflection chance.
I really hope devs think about this builds balance issues.
If they deduct the core amount of each weapon/armor to 1 (only active cores unless it's a rare passive e.g celtic cleaver or curse) then they can bring back classes good old passives back and hopefully the positive sides of balanced support-based builds which we can all enjoy without the constant drop of failure.

Some changes I would reccomend would be either:
- Reduce cooldown of aux to 3 instead of 4
- Make Field Medic progress health regeneration based on the support stat
- Deduct weapon and armor cores to one active instead of an active and passive together (This might be hard for Devs to bear so i don't think this would happen though I highly recomend it) and bring back old classes passive skills back into the game e.g. Shadow arts, reroute, mineral armor etc.
- Make damage dealing cores that progress in damage with the support stat
