In time of great peril, a mortal who is near death will be possessed by a dark spirit known as a Khari. Although revived, the Khari will twist and corrupt the mortal's mind until they are completely driven by the evil entity's will; these individuals are known as Reavers. Nearly a thousand years ago there lived a scholar, Jhagar Sura, who realized that these Khari could be controlled. This scholar of great intellect knew more of the Khari than any other, and recorded his teachings, knowledge, and experiences in a journal known as the Von Haaris. Jhagar roamed the land as a prophet, but it was not long until the White Church branded him a heretic. Jhagar and his followers were hunted down by the White Hand before being executed for their heresy. Jhagar was never possessed by a Khari, although his followers were. These followers took up the name 'Hu'ron' and exacted vengeance on Jhagar's executioners, reclaiming the Von Haaris in the process. These Hu'ron would go on to establish the Hu'ron Brotherhood - an organization dedicated to the study of Khari possession, as well as the protection of the Hu'ron.
In the present day, the Brotherhood maintains the Six Towers. Each Tower is surrounded by a walled city of Hu'ron. It is within these cities that the Hu'ron may live in peace, train, and study. The Brotherhood acts as a sort of guild: offering their skills and knowledge in exchange for compensation. They
