The original reason fame made in the first place was to advertise the game by putting links to your webpage on social media networks such as facebook and twitter and getting fame by having friends do it that way.
The leader board and the cheevo's were just added incentive to get players to do this.
However since Fame is now in game only the original purpose of fame is now gone.
The fame box alert in battle is a nuisance especially to those who have slower computers and speeds, or when the game itself is lagging because the time it takes to click away the box could be used to get out and make your move after looking at your opponents stats.
