dethhollow -> Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/16/2015 22:18:40)

The island of Tennotochi had been founded over a thousand years ago by a lost clan of samurai. It's a fairly large land mass in a part of the sea coated in mysterious and dangerous naturally occurring fog that is difficult to reach without prior knowledge or, at least, that was true for a while. For generations, the people of Tennotochi lived an isolated existence with the reigning shogun constantly working to keep the people united and their soldiers trained in preparation for the day the path to the island would be made known to outsiders. However, while a few strangers had found the island by chance in the past, the island's reveal to the outside world was from an unexpected source.

Five years ago, during the reign of the past shogun, Haru Kako, his successor, Hika Mirai, went on a journey to the mainland in secret. The trip lasted just three days yet that time was enough for Mirai to make contact with the mainland's assassin guild where he arranged a deal with the group. If they could murder the shogun, Haru Kako, without revealing their involvement then Hika Mirai would grant them well-paying jobs as Tennotochi's new military. The assassins were quick to accept and, after leaving them with a map of the way to get to Tennotochi, they accomplished their mission within the week. The death of Haru Kako was tragic, but the public was unaware of Mirai's involvement in it. However, when Mirai became shogun and started firing close guards and soldiers, alike, in exchange for new foreign forces, some inhabitants of Tennotochi began to grow suspicious. This suspicion was only intensified the day a foul curse began to take hold of the island, making people paranoid of their new and, sometimes, overly violent, soldiers! Food began to rot early, equipment would break, and occasionally sickness began to take hold on several people who had handled the soldiers' weapons. And yet this was only the beginning of the troubles that would soon plague the island.

Shortly after people began complaining about the choices of the shogun, foreign warriors began to appear on the island for the sole purpose of killing people involved with the forming revolution and leaving without a trace. With each death, knowledge of the path to Tennotochi became more and more available until the way was practically common knowledge to every sailor in the mainland. Now under the threat of invasion, revolution, and a curse that could potentially render the land unusable, the island and the culture of the samurai of Tennotochi are at more risk than ever before. Will a fragile peace be restored? Or will Tennotochi be destroyed by the ever-nearing threat of war with both the mainland and its own people?

This RP is a basically going to be a co-hosted by a user I met on another site that will go by the name of Sonicracer100 here. There will be two main plots going on, the A plot involving the shogun and the rebellion, and the B plot in the background about discovering the source of the curse. Sonicracer will make the shogun's character and be in charge of the A plot while I'll be in charge of the B plot and approving bios. "But wait!" you might be wondering. "The backstory mentions a rebellion going on! Who's going to be in charge of that?" Well, turns out, that position is open to anyone who wants it. Since the rebellion is disorganized, there can be countless people heading different parts of it at the same time. If you want to make a character leading part of the rebellion, just put something along the lines of "Rebellion leader" under alliance in your bio. So... yeah, I think that's pretty much everything that I need to say. The OoC will be updated with new information, we will start the RP soon after gaining a minimum of 2 players (more-or-less), and I hope this RP ends up fun for everyone involved!

Bio format- The recommended bio format. I won't force people to follow it to the letter, but feel free to copy and paste it.

Master K -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/16/2015 22:59:54)

Color me interested.

I have a Shinobi-type character who could fit this setting.

Bastet -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/17/2015 8:05:34)

I would very much enjoy participating, but I've already hit my limit of RP's. If any are declared inactive, I'll have a bio ready.

TJByrum -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/17/2015 9:39:09)

I have two ideas. Either a samurai daimyo who seeks to lead the rebellion, or a ronin hero who seeks to join the rebels

dethhollow -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/17/2015 15:09:26)

@TJB

I would say it would be better to go with the Daimyo until we actually get someone to lead the rebels, buutttt considering the rebellion is so unorganized right now you could always just make up an NPC who could be killed off-screen and disappear at any moment for the ronin hero idea. So either one would probably work just as well.

TJByrum -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/21/2015 20:38:58)

Tell me if anything is wrong. I am assuming that Haru Kako has been in charge for 5 years, since the death of Hika Mirai. Also, I read Japanese name's with the family name being last (so Kenji Uesumi's family name is Uesumi). But I know some people would have read it as Uesumi Kenji. How do you read it Deth? Also, I want my character to remain unaffiliated for the time being, until I get a feel for what's really going on in the RP.

Name: Kenji Uesumi ("Ronin")
Age: 30
Gender: Male

Alliance: Ronin (unaffiliated)
Appearance: Kenji is a man of average height and weight, and has an athletically-built body from years of training and experience. He has fair skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair hair. His hair is long, reaching down to his mid-back, but he keep it pulled up in a pony-tail. Kenji maintains a calm posture and demeanor, his face stoic and cold, but also mysterious.
Clothing: Kenji wears an old, worn-out, dirty white kimono with tattered sleeves. He also wears an old, royal-red, tattered hakama. He also wears a traveling bag for which to carry things in. Finally, his only piece of apparel is a brand new sash, red in color, tied around his waist.
Items/Weapons: Kenji carries the traditional sword of the samurai, a katana. The katana is long at 70 centimeters, is lightweight, and has obviously been used quite a bit before. Nevertheless, Kenji has kept the blade and hilt polished and sharpened. Kenji calls the sword 'the Redeemer' and keeps it sheathed on his left hip. Kenji also carries a yumi bow, most often slung over one of his shoulders, as well as a quiver of arrows. Finally, he carries a small cutting knife for which to cut things.
Skills: Kenji is a master swordsman, having been trained in the way of the samurai. He is also an experienced archer, but only resorts to ranged offense when absolutely necessary. In recent years, Kenji has become a 'survivalist', being able to roam and survive in the wilderness.
Spells/Abilities: Kenji does not know many magical spells, but his ability of Concentration is one of note. So long as Kenji has time to meditate and clear his mind before battle, he enters a state of intense concentration. He becomes one with the battlefield, completely devoid of distractions and his accuracy with both bow and blade become unparalleled and nearly flawless.

Personality: Kenji is a man of virtue and honor above all else. He is devoted to loyalty, integrity, and honesty. He believes this is how all samurai - and all men for that matter - should be. He sees the world in three scopes: the good, the innocent, and the bad. He believes the good must protect the innocent, and together they must prevail over the bad. Kenji is also a man of patience, freedom, and respect, and believes all those who are born are free to choose their own path, which often conflicts with his three-scope rule.
History: Kenji was born to a noble family and given the noble name Uesumi. His family was revered and highly respected during the reign of Haru Kako. As was destined for many samurai families, Kenji entered schools and academies that trained him in the way of the samurai. He became a gifted and well-respected samurai, a shining pupil in the eyes of his master. Kenji devoted himself to a life of loyalty and nobility, intending to serve the good shogun, Haru Kako, as best he could.

Unfortunately, at the age of 25, Kenji received the news that Haru Kako had died. Feeling as if something was amiss, Kenji worked to find an answer, but his efforts was short-lived when Hika Mirai, the new shogun, sent assassins to murder Kenji and his family. Fortunately, Kenji was away, but his family suffered a tragic end at the hands of the assassins. Now a wanted criminal and broken man, Kenji fled the populated areas and lived as a hermit in the wilderness for a year. It was there here unlocked his ability of Concentration, becoming one with himself. He had reached zen.

Coming out of the forests, Kenji acted as a roaming ronin, protecting the weak and serving the innocent. His selfless endeavors and reclusive nature earned him the name nickname 'Ronin', as per his occupation. Ronin continued traveling and serving the people, now under the iron-fisted rule of Haru Kako. He worked many times, in secret, against the operations of Hika Mirai. It is now a dark time of revolution and invasion, and Ronin has come out of hiding, committing himself as Kenji Uesumi, and will do whatever he can to bring about the downfall of Hika Mirai, as well as protect and serve the people of Tennotochi.

dethhollow -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/21/2015 23:43:47)

Accepted! I especially like that his morals are already listed and that they're the type of things that someone could really work off of effectively. The only thing you need to change is that you got the shogun mixed up. Haru Kako's the dead shogun that people generally liked and Hika Mirai is the new one, so just switch the names in your history and it'll all be good.

Anyways, personally, I just read the names in first/last order but sometimes I'll switch it up and just go with the last name if it's more recognizable like with Kako and Mirai. It just seems easier to tell them apart by their last names than it is trying to remember which one is Haru and which one is Hika to me.

TJByrum -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/22/2015 10:49:34)

It's funny you say that, cause I had them all in the right place at first, until I re-read the bio and was like "wait I got these mixed up", so I went back and changed them all. But no worries, I'll change them soon enough.

I was a little put off by the morals and goal of this character. He seemed one-sided, like a cardboard cutout. So I've decided to introduce a flaw in his personality, one that completely mirrors everything he is fighting for. He will come to the realization that there is only one true way to peace... but I will leave that open for character development.

dethhollow -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (3/22/2015 22:28:32)

I think that's a pretty good decision. Also, oddly enough, your character's morality is pretty much the exact opposite of what I was planning on my character's being, so I look forward to seeing how these two characters interact IC. Speaking of which, I finally got my own character done and approved by the other guy who's going to be running this RP! As soon as he gets his bio done, I'll submit the RP for approval and I'll probably wait for one more bio before making the IC thread.

Name: Augustus Clyves
Age: 26
Gender: Male

Alliance: Shogun's forces
Appearance: Augustus is around 6 feet tall with a very average middleweight build. His face has several sharp, angular, features. Unlike most people, Augustus has straight white hair that stops a third of the way down his neck and piercing yellow eyes that often seem intensely focused on whoever's near him. Normally, Augustus wears a white outfit consisting of a long sleeve shirt with a raised collar around the sides and back of his neck and a pair of pants with a leather belt around the waist holding the sheath for his sword on the right side. The outfit has a thin yellow trim that goes around near the end of each sleeve as well as a line that follows his collar and goes down the front of his shirt. Augustus also dawns a pair of simple silver gauntlets and boots with silver armor on the front and shin for basic protection in combat.

Items/Weapons:
----- Bored Fable- A specialized one-handed steel straightsword with a medium length blade and an especially prominent, bronze, straight guard. While the guard throws off the balance of the weapon, it makes it a very useful defensive weapon meant to help block and whittle down the opponent over time rather than be a precision weapon.
----- Gruger- A shield Augustus wields on his left arm in the shape of a purple heart with a black pattern on the center. While it doesn't match the rest of his armor, the knight keeps it around because of how useful it has been in the past. Only holy or divine magic is able to damage the shield.

Spells/Abilities:
----- Mirror Sight- A unique ability shared a few of the surviving descendants of the mirror clan. The user can see out of reflective surfaces as if they were their own eyes as well as track nearby reflective objects with their mind. This makes users of this ability hard to sneak up on, but years of intensive practice are needed before it can be used practically and reliably.

----- Gel Armor- A spell where the user forms ice armor around their body. The armor is solid enough to withstand movement, but with each section designed to break upon direct contact with an attack. Negating the blow instead of trying to stay solid and useable after the impact. Around a minute of focus is required to repair a damaged section of armor. The exact design differs from person to person but, in Augustus's case, he uses his gauntlets and the joints of his boots as bases to form the Gel Armor on his hands and feet while not sacrificing dexterity. But, more distinctly, he forms a solid sphere of ice around his head without any clear openings supported by a solid collar of ice based around his shirt's raised collar. This means Augustus's Gel Armor protects his entire body with the exception of a few joints, but it makes it harder for him to hear noises and impossible to see without relying on his Mirror Sight ability or getting rid of the helmet completely. Because of this, while his Gel Armor is a great defensive setup, it's not perfect and can be stopped in a variety of ways by a clever opponent.

----- Instant Mist- A low tier spell that can form a smokescreen from the mana of another spell once it's destabilized. By using this in combination with his Gel Armor, a quick smokescreen will hide him whenever a section of his armor is destroyed. However, since Augustus knows no other spells, this ability can only be used in combination with his Gel Armor and only once a section is broken. Also, since his armor's helmet has no clear openings, a strike in the right area could make this normally harmless ability very dangerous for its user.

Personality: Augustus is mostly a very logical and cold person in most situations. When given vague objectives, he will always try to go for the easiest and most straightforward path to completing his goals, regardless of what the aftermath of his actions are. But Augustus will always make sure he follows the orders of whoever is in charge of him no matter what. To him, there are only two things that he values above all else, honor and a person's heritage or social standing. He is loyal to no end, not because he believes in the cause of the people above him or because he even particularly cares about the one he serves. In Augustus's mind, the only reason he needs to remain loyal to his superiors is to become the greatest tool he can be and take pride in his goal of becoming their ultimate pawn! There is no 'good' or 'evil' to him, just those that selfishly fight for themselves and the ones who have the will to further the goals of others. Anyone else is just in the way. He also has a secret love for puppies even though it rarely shows and is pretty inconsequential.
History: Hundreds of generations ago, there existed a small but strong kingdom of people renowned for their natural ability to sense and see through reflective objects. The kingdom was almost constantly in danger from invading nations but, through their abilities, they could see an invasion coming and prepare accordingly weeks in advance for whatever type of weapon the invaders would attempt to use. However, over time, the rulers of the kingdom became increasingly paranoid over what would happen if an invading nation could get their hands on the same power that had let them stay protected for so long and the kingdom slowly became more and more isolated from the rest of the world. As a result of this, their numbers thinned until, finally, it became impossible to fend off outside attacks even when prepared to the best of their ability. The kingdom of the mirror clan was conquered fairly easily and quickly fell into obscurity. Now, few descendants of the kingdom remain with even fewer people possessing Mirror Sight, the ability that made the kingdom so difficult to conquer so many generations ago. Even fewer people know the story of how their kingdom came to be or the origin of their gifts. Augustus is one of those select few.

As far back as he can remember, Augustus had been raised by a powerful ice witch. While they often didn't get along and Augustus showed little proficiency for magic at first, eventually she did help him learn to use his Mirror Sight effectively as well as teaching him how to use the spell to form Gel Armor. Then, one day, for seemingly no reason, at the age of 14 the witch who was watching after Augustus left and never returned. It was a simple form of rejection but, to him, it was surprisingly devastating. He became obsessed with loyalty, family, and his natural ability until, by the age of 21, Augustus had mastered his Mirror Sight and based his entire combat style around trying to utilize it as effectively as possible. At this time, he joined the group of assassins that would later kill Haru Kako and, even though he was a new member of the group, Augustus managed to obtain a fairly high ranking spots as one of the new Shogun's generals. Now he works at the Shogun's most loyal dogs, willing to do whatever it takes to obey the will of his master.

Sonicracer100 -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (4/3/2015 15:05:01)

Sorry for the long wait, the bio should be up by this weekend. I'm one of the co-hosts of this rp ^-^ I apologize for the wait, and I can assure you that the bio for the Shogun shall be up by this weekend.

dethhollow -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (4/9/2015 9:48:24)

Sorry, but I don't want to run a Japanese-themed setting by myself. I just don't feel like I'm well-versed enough in the aesthetics and stuff. So, here's what I'm going to do. It's been 3 weeks since the IC thread was put up and this idea has been in the works for longer than that. If Sonicracer doesn't get the bio finished by next week, I'm going to have the IC locked. Sorry for the bad news, guys, and I'm sorry for having to put up a deadline, Sonicracer, but this has just gone on a bit too long and there's other RP ideas that I could possibly be doing. Hopefully this will be the kick-in-the-pants you need to get something out even if it's not perfect.

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: Tennotochi: Uprising (OoC) (4/21/2015 18:22:47)
