FireManXTM -> (DF Fan-Fic) A prophecy of passion (4/17/2015 3:37:33)

The Gathering

During an adventure in the mountains, you find a portal that has never been there before. It has no inscription, no name or sight of destination on it anywhere. You have the mind to tell someone about it, but as soon as you move too far, the portal phases out of sight. You move closer and comes back into vision, there must be an enchantment on it so only certain individuals can use it. Also to hide it from others. Someone has put this here for a reason, for what... you do not know. You have a thought to enter, but uncertain to. Sticking one hand through it, you see that it's both active and presumably safe. Slowly going through, you step fully inside. However as soon you are, you're engulfed in black flames. Startled, you react in fear, yet finding no pain in this event. Instead, you feel the heat of the fire, it feels comforting. You walk further ahead and find, in lack of better words, a really really really big door. It's mainly red but highlighted with pink, orange, yellow and blue, in a fire-like style. Embellished with golden baubles and such. Followed by large, bejeweled, golden handles.

Cam: Could this really be it?

The only way to find out is to open it. You reach to touch the door, it grows hotter and hotter as you move closer. Then soon you hear a flaring roar behind you. You look behind and see the portal you came through has been shrouded by the black flames. They turn from a coarse black to a pale red. It radiates a heat that forces you to turn away. Looks like you haven't a choice to come back later. Looking back at the door you again reach for the handle, and once you do the handle bursts into flame. Another enchantment? You grab at the handle, patting the fire down, and pause. Waiting if there is any more 'surprises' at this door. As it opens, a fire elemental bows to you and greets you.

???: Welcome to the Plain of Fire, Adventurer. Shall I escort you?
Cam: Uuh..... sure?....
???: No need to be worried, your arrival has been planned, please come with me.
Cam: Someone planned for me to be here without me knowing it, and wants me to stay calm and follow somebody I just met... Is it Friday already?
???: It will all be explained as soon as you are settled in. Walk this way.

You walk behind the elemental, quite distraught from everything happening. Finding a secret portal to the Fire Plain, and being welcomed in without a question. Not even a name was given! You keep walking with the elemental, taking a deep breath to rationalize and think. Your mind is distracted, finally settling on where you are. Gazing and ogling at the wonders of this place. Unknowing to you the elemental has stopped walking and you plow straight into her.
???: OW!! To think you'd act a little more graceful in the home of Fiamme.
Cam: S-sorry... It's just this is really a lot to process! Plus, this is my first time here, this place really is amazing!
???: Well, just be more careful.
Cam: Roger that!

You and the elemental get up and continue walking. Looking around, your gasps of 'oooh' and 'ahh' fill all the silence the elemental is making for you. There's Decorations all around you almost like it’s a party back home for someone.
Cam: Really, what's the occasion? Wait is it Fiamme's birthday? I'm not all that good at remembering those.
???: No, no nothing like that. To tell you the truth, I'm still curious about it all myself.
Cam: Oh thank goodness, I wasn't sure how I was gonna get her a gift while here. Well, I guess we got something in common.
Pyra: Looks that way. I'm Pyra, by the way.
Cam: Oh, lovely name. I'm Cam, nice to meet you.
Pyra: Come, it isn't far.

The two of you go on further until you reach the stadium. You begin to see multitudes of other people also being lead to the entrance. The closer you get, the more you start hearing a voice from the stadium. As you enter you get a glimpse of who's talking.

Speaker: Welcome, welcome all! Thank you all for taking our invitations to the Fire Plain! As you've seen this world in it's current state, we certainly couldn't have this meeting on your plain. I see many familiar faces, and many of you have never came here before. So I, on behalf of the Council of Ingnitis, open our hands and hospitality to you.
Cam: [Whispering to Pyra] What's the Council?
Pyra: A group of some of the strongest and eldest Fire Elementals in all of Lore, but none stronger than Fiamme.
Cam: Really? How many are there? What do they do?
Pyra: There are six Council members. They hold the six pieces of The Eternal Flame.
Cam: Eternal Flame? Wait you don’t mean that weak weapon drop?
Pyra: Shhh! I can't hear!
Speaker:... so just stay with your assigned escorts and don't wander off the marked paths. Now without further adieu... let the festivities begin!

Fanfare begins playing and people all around, start getting up and going out of the stadium. You get up and follow the crowd, motioning Pyra to come with you. The both of you are approached by a fire elemental with papers.

Bur'i: Your signature is needed, Adventurer.
Cam: But I don't have a pencil... or quill for that matter.
Pyra: Weren't you listening?
Cam: Uhhhh...... Kinda....
Pyra: Oi... The speaker had said to use the scorch mark on your hand as a identifier.
Cam: I don't have a scorch mark.
Pyra: Look at your hand, the spell on the front gate wasn't just for show.
Cam: [looking at your hand] Oh yeah... I knew that!

While Pyra shakes her head at you, you place the scorch mark on the paper. It ignites and etches an outline of your palm on the parchment. As you retrieve your hand, your name appears right next to the mark. The elemental holding the paper, clenches his fist with it inside. It burns instantly, and he opens his hand to reveal a kindle floating. It hovers over your head for a moment, then flies out of view. The elemental looks toward you and nods to you.

Bur'i: Your presence here is now known by the Council. You can freely explore the Fire Plain, be sure to seek out living quarters and nourishment.
Cam: Before or after I get sun-screen?
Bur'i: .......
Pyra: I'll be sure to make sure the Adventurer does as they're needed.

Bur'i nods to Pyra reassured, then leaves. He makes his way through the crowd approaching another visitor of the Fire Plain. You guess it's a registration of some sort. You shake excess thoughts from your mind to make room for the sudden flood of new ones. You're in the Fire Plain, a place you wouldn't be too sure you'd ever see in your life. Plus, they're hosting a massive party. Still for reasons unknown to you, but you're excited! You reach behind your back to grab Pyra by the wrist, whipping her in close to match your speed. She was taken by surprise but starts ranting when she realizes what's happening. After a moment of running around, you start smelling something. A very tasty smell, like freshly roasted meat on a fire. You close your eyes and start using your nose to sniff-out the direction to the source. You notice light smoke coming from your.....

Cam: AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! MY HAAAAAND!!!
Pyra: *sighs* I just had to be an escort for this one.

Now this is a perfect way relax, with all the time you have now. After besting dragons, fighting evil people and re-killing undead creatures; you wouldn't be any place else but a Fire Plain recovery center. There doesn't seem to be any use for medicine of any kind here. As most other beings here are either Pyromancers or elementals and both can heal themselves. You observe as the healer places your hand in a bright, silver-looking flame. It's hard to really get used to. In fact you start laughing in spite of yourself at just how ridiculous this all is. There's nothing that makes any sense right now, like everything is happening around you rather than to you. The fire is healing you when you're so used to it hurting you. The healing is quick and soothing, oddly leaving a citrus-y fragrance. After the healer is done and removes your hand from the fire, you pick-up all your things and check yourself out, seeing Pyra as you exit.

Pyra: Are you alright?
Cam: I think so, but I smell like a lemon.
Pyra: Well let it be a lesson, don't grab any fire-kin without their permission.
Cam: I'll keep it in mind.
Pyra: Be sure you do! You're lucky I was lessening my flame or you would've lost your arm!
Cam: Okay! Got it! Can we go now?
Pyra: Is it so hard to even pretend you're not the center of attention?
Cam: Is it so hard to even pretend that your rules are unnecessary. Come on, I've been doing relatively okay so far.
Pyra: Okay? You put yourself on FIRE!
Cam: That happens a lot... When dealing with fire elementals. I heal up, we apologize and keep going.
Pyra: Ugh! I don’t find it hard to see reason why everyone wants to wage war on your kind. No one can stand you!
Cam: Funny you mentioned war since your kind already has multiple times! You even destroyed Falconreach before!
Pyra: I knew it! No human ever wants to let that go!
Cam: Let it go? Let It Go! Do you know how many people were lost back then? I fought a guy who went crazy from his lost alone.
Pyra: You should know that it's no where near as many as the lost of our kind.
Cam: What? How isn’t it? Elementals don't die, their essence is just absor-
Pyra: Cam did you forget that your kind won those wars?
Cam: I... I-I didn’t...
Pyra: My father was right about your kind; self-centered, mean and selfish. You do what you must to survive, but when it's at the expense of someone else's survival. You become the monster.
Cam: Pyra... I'm sor-
Pyra: Save your apologies for the fumes, I'm here to escort you and then you're gone, period.

Stoking Flames

It's very awkward for the rest of the day, to say the least. Not that it can be helped Pyra stopped talking to you beyond the occasional instructive directions. Eventually ending up at a housing the fire-kin had prepared. It’s not the greatest place but it suits you. Honestly you start thinking on why you're here again, and how long were you meant to stay. You start to look for Pyra, as unnerving as it is to talk to her right now. You need some answers, and you have a feeling she might know someone that can give you some. Looking throughout the house you can’t find her. Curious, you persist and extend the search out of the house.

Cam: Where is she?

There's chatter across from where you're staying. Elementals... You see thousands of people when you get here, but as you as want to talk to someone, they're nowhere to be found. Yet, it's better than being alone. You go over there to ask about Pyra, but end up listening in on their conversation.

Aunarí: ... It's not his fault!
Gianna: Yeah right, he was basically telling her to flare. If you asked me, she should've burned him more.
Aunarí: [scoffs] How can you say that? She was willing to do it.
Gianna: The Council wouldn't have allowed it anyway.
Aunarí: I know, here’s hoping nothing else happens.
Gianna: Just as soon as the humans get settled we can get started with-

Aunarí, stops Gianna and points behind her. Gianna jerks around and sees you. She clams up in response to your being there. Aunarí simply pushes her arm down with her free hand. They both readjust themselves, assuming a more approachable stature.

Cam: Don't mind me... Please continue.

Aunarí looks at Gianna, who is still clamped up. Taking the liberty to speak first, she starts with...
Aunarí: Is there a problem, Adventurer?
Cam: Actually, I was looking for my escort. Her name is Pyra.
Gianna: Pyra? How did she become an escort?

You turn your head towards Gianna, thinking "What she mean by that?" Now that Aunarí is giving Gianna a look. You begin to speak more, but she cuts you off.

Aunarí: Nevermind her, Adventurer. When was the last time you saw her?
Cam: [putting hand on your chin as you’re thinking about it] I think about an hour or so ago. She stayed along to help me find a place to stay. After that... Poof.

Aunarí: I guess we could check her home first, and go from there.
Cam: It’s not much but, it’s something to go on.
Aunarí: I don't remember where her place is though.
Cam: Wonderful.
Gianna: [full of enthusiasm, nearly jumping with glee] I remember the way!
Cam: Great!
Gianna: It's that way! [she says while pointing a general direction left]

You look off to the area and you see a number of buildings, all of which are very far away.
Cam: Great.
