Sorry if that title doesn't make sense, or if it sounds weird. I've had two ideas which I am sure have been done before, but I want to discuss them. I also want to hear, from you, about what other things could be done.

The first idea is where the RP only has one protagonist, whom is created by the combined efforts of every RPer in the game. So the race, age, gender, appearance, personality, equipment, preferences, history, etc is decided by every one of the RPers. Then, everyone takes turn playing as the same character in the RP. For example, we may create Zandar the Dark Elf, and everyone posts and describes Zandar's actions in a specific order or something.

The second idea is where everyone creates a character, but must play a 'lottery' to determine which character they want. So you won't be playing your character, but rather someone else's. So Draycos could end up playing as my character, then I may end up playing as Kellehendros' character, then Black Knight may end up playing as Draycos' character, etc. The challenge is to play the character in the way the creator intended it.

I honestly would turn down participating in both.
I wouldn't enjoy the shared-character RP because I prefer to define characters I control, direct their development and control their actions by myself. What if other roleplayers did something I wouldn't agree with?
As for the second idea, I would refuse it because I simply don't like toying with luck. I wouldn't want to end up playing a character I don't enjoy in the slightest, that wasn't even forged by my own hand.

I'd have to agree with Bastet with this one. While I do enjoy interaction with other RPer's characters, and may even greatly enjoy another's character. The characters I made are a little bit of me. So it may sound selfish, but I don't really like the idea of sharing them to much.

^My selfishness in a nutshell basically. XD

This also ties into the first idea. Once I get an idea I more often then not roll with it. It starts with an appearance or personality and before I know it....I've got a whole character. Being stuck with only one section would be a bummer:P

Oh I understand completely guys, I just wanted to see what people thought of these different types of role plays. The challenge and scope of the RP would be to look at characters from another perspective.

dethhollow -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/22/2015 22:12:38)

The first idea sounds troublesome. I imagine you would easily end up with a Twitch Plays Pokemon type of scenario where one person wants to do one thing, another doesn't want to do that thing, and a third person might want to do the exact opposite of the first thing resulting in us not really getting anywhere.

The second idea, however.... I doubt it would be too popular, but it would be pretty fun. I would definately be up for something like that. Especially if people could make a character for the sake of the RP but choose to not play so we could get more bios in. After all, why would you not want to just copy-paste something for the heck of seeing a new interpretation of your creation? Throw in a fairly general setting that can apply to quite a few characters and character types and you've got something I've never seen before that could be really fun to work with. Although, fair warning, there is no way I wouldn't try to make a fun/joke character just for the sake of seeing someone potentially working with them. Something like a Penguin Knight or something.

To add into these concepts, I'll throw in an idea for an RP with randomized character powers. The idea is that each player who wants to join is given a random power by the host using This Power Randomizer. The player, then, has to either find a way to make the power they've been given useful or just ignore all powers, completely, to try to fight with their own human strength. This thing has every power you can imagine from transforming into Cerberus to Whirlwind Kicks to copying other abilities and even Lycanokinesis (controlling your werewolf form as well as the transformations of others)! And those are literally just the first 4 I ran into using the Randomizer while typing this comment.
EDIT: Also, hitting the random button a 5th time for kicks seriously gave me the power to make clothes faster.... So the Randomizer definitely has both awesome crap and completely useless stuff, unless someone somehow finds a way to make clothes-making useful in some way........ Which would be both awesome and goofy as heck!

Bastet -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/23/2015 1:43:14)

Contrasting with my earlier opinion, I would enjoy joining an RP structured upon the power randomizer. It sounds like a cool way to make new characters without being forced to use someone else's.

Master K -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/23/2015 11:09:53)

The Power Randomizer seems fun.

salene -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/23/2015 14:48:54)

Seems super fun to make a character, and then have somebody else play them! I'm sure it could make for some very entertaining scenarios!

TJByrum -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/23/2015 14:59:42)

There's a face I haven't seen before. And when I say face, I mean avatar. Welcome to the boards Salene.

The Power Randomizer does sound cool, and I'd be interested in doing something like that.

I understand some of the points you guys make, but the reasons you're pointing out why they would fail would be the challenge. I know they'd probably be convoluted and messy at first, but I think we could pull it off.

salene -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/23/2015 19:03:15)

Nice to be here! Although I'm actually QUITE active on other forums, I haven't been around here in a loooong while!

dethhollow -> RE: Alternative Character Roleplaying (5/29/2015 9:48:03)

OK, since there seems to be some interest in the randomized powers idea, I'm going to make that a thing unless someone else wants to host the RP. I'm going to be on vacation soon and won't be around much until the 4th or 5th. And I wouldn't want to start working on an OoC thread and then just leave in the middle of making it or something. So there's plenty of time for other people to decide whether they want to make the RP themselves or co-host it or to just leave it to me or whatever.
