I'd say you leave completing all the quests for after the reset. However, they are a good source of exp and money, which brings us to our next point: Doomwood Forest is a level 9/10 area, so you're underlevelled. Go complete a few quests from previous areas to level up., and then farm the drops you want. While the Alpha Knight set is good, at level 7 it's a bit outdated. Go through the Trolluk Cave and complete the quests to get a good weapon, and with some luck Pebblars will drop equipment pieces that are better for your level. Items dropped from the mobs in Greenguard South are ok as well, but a bit lower level. Ideally, your equipment should be, at most, two/three levels below you, or your own level. Remember that you're farming this equipment now so that the post-reset game will be easier for you, so don't worry too much about your current level. Otherwise, you could farm for gold (I suggest farming King Sneed, who drops Shipping Label x2 at a fairly decent rate, which sell for 100 gold each), and buy equipment at the shops in Battleon. The quest items in Doomwood Forest appear to have a lower drop rate than in previous areas, yes. I'd say between 50% and 30%, depending what quest you're doing (though there are some that have higher drop rates, and some are 100%).
