Silver Sky Magician -> How can we make missions more engaging? (10/2/2015 12:36:25)

Missions and mission texts in particular are the main way we develop EpicDuel's plot and lore. Despite our best efforts to make them more engaging, though, manyplayers just scroll to the end of the text to find the mission requirements, essentially skipping a huge part of the story. How do you think we can better engage the players to be more invested in ED's rich lore, and make missions more fun in general?

One method I've tried is to make the mission requirements more obscure, so players have to read the texts to better understand what to do. What other suggestions do you have? Do note that we don't have the resources for cutscenes like the other AE games - we usually reserve these for major, plot-driving events.

I think the only way to make players read the mission text is to remove the mission requirements section so the player will actually have to read through the text and decide what he or she has to do.

Well this may be far fetched, but in my opinion.....just reading with out any cut scenes, sound, or music is boring. I would say instead of just having an dialogue box, cutscenes with subtitles should be placed along with it.

I don't know about others, but I'm just not the type of a person who ever reads any mission texts (in any games). I would advise against making mission requirements more obscure. Players don't like to be forced to read the text (anyways, they would probably just go to the wiki instead). Also, keep in mind that some players struggle with English.

Make the missions seem necessary. After all, why should you battle for Titan, simply because he wants a Yeti Burger?
