Tis the Season for Gifting

Greetings, Epic-Duelists! We hope you had a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Our team is at full strength and we're ready to rock! Next week, EpicDuel players will witness the exciting relaunch of the extremely popular Gifting system! We will also be updating the Legendary shops and seasonal shops with some awesome new gear!

[image]http://www.epicduel.com/images/cms/EpicDuel-PvP-Browser-MMO-theon-gifting-preview-DN.jpg[/image]
This year, the grand gifting prize, for the most generous EpicDuel player, will be MY Alpha Gear. That's right. You heard me...or read me, rather. I will be parting with my own Alpha Gear, depositing it gingerly in the inventory of the lucky winner with the designation: "Nightwraith's Alpha Gear."

Caden's Curse Missions
[image]http://www.epicduel.com/images/cms/EpicDuel-PVP-Browser-MMO-loremaster_location-DN.jpg[/image]
Artix Entertainment's 13th anniversary missions in EpicDuel will be leaving next week! That means the achievement will go permanently RARE! This mission will not recycle so if you've haven't completed it or haven't turned in your item, you're running out of time to complete it!

Merged Dragonoid Fix!
We will be implementing a fix next week that will finally allow those who have already completed this year's Dragonoid missions to team up with those who haven't to help take down the Merged Dragonoid boss! This was a long time coming, but there was an odd technical quirk that kept us from doing this earlier.

What Is Gifting?!?!
For those who forget how this system worked or weren't around the last time we introduced this EPIC gifting feature, Beleen posted a great video breaking down this system feature-by-feature:
Beleen's Tutorial on Epic Duel's New Game Feature: Holiday Gift Giving and Free Presents
Now, in addition to giving pain to your fellow Duelers, you can give gifts of holiday cheer (and load and LOADS of credits!) to friend and foe alike!
Thanks again, Beleen, for this epic video!

BioBeasts
[image]http://www.epicduel.com/images/cms/BioBeasts-mobile-screenshot-salamancer-preview.jpg[/image]
BioBeasts development continues to progress smoothly. We've had some technical hiccups trying to implement the newest performance fixes from Unity's latest patch, but we're on track. If you've played the Beta, you know the game is solid, but polish remains extremely important. The App store is unforgiving towards buggy software so a smooth launch is paramount!
If you want to try BioBeasts for iOS or Android, you can still sign up for the Beta on the official website! Join us in helping BioBeasts be the BEST mobile game AE has launched to date and one of the best on the mobile marketplace!
Join the AQ3D Kickstarter!
[image]http://www.epicduel.com/images/cms/AQ3D_Kickstarter_Dage_Promo_Battle.png[/image]
If you weren't already aware (somehow) Artix Entertainment just launched a Kickstarter for AdventureQuest 3D! Our goal is to raise enough to extend the our development time on AdventureQuest 3D and complete the game right. So far, it is off to an AMAZING start! As I write this we are comfortably over 50% of the goal. You guys are amazing! Check out the video, and see our vision for the game. Back this project, or help spread word about this Kickstarter anywhere you can to help us finish AdventureQuest 3D. The success of this project has the potential to elevate Artix Entertainment to the next level and make 2016 a truly incredible year for us and our players.

Well seems like Titan has replied to that. Although, I'm even more mad now the reason for delaying the gifting event is, "the almighty coreless" items guest artist have crafted. I mean with all due respect, I like the guest artists' art and all, but then, you aren't recreating the gifting event from scratch guys, you just have to re-activate it, nothing fancy.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/8/2015 9:30:20)

Seriously, how big is BioBeasts?? I mean it's taking soooo long!! or is it that the development is just too slow??

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/8/2015 9:43:03)

BioBeasts is fundamentally different from EpicDuel - if the initial release is buggy, the entire project is almost certain to fail, whereas in EpicDuel you can simply fix the bugs without losing too much player interest and engagement. That's why BioBeasts needs to be rock-solid at release. It's basically done now, but the finishing needs to be tight, else the whole thing may fall apart.

Sure, AQ3D is not based on ED, it is based on AQW, AQ and DF, but in the end, ED belongs to AE, and if AQ3D project fails, ED will have a hard time to, so I guess ED devs should consider making something like this.
*I already suggested this and it seems like Dage already implemented it, here:
http://forums2.battleon.com/f/fb.asp?m=22065120
I mean dage is working on AQ3D and AQW and maybe something else, so don't tell me ED artists can't do this because they are busy, well everyone is busy but biobeasts' main art thingies are already done, so I'm not really sure what charfade/NW are still busy doing.

Charfade -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 15:27:37)

Since its relevant to EpicDuel and AE, We just posted the BioBeasts Launch plan and notes regarding the rest of the year and into the beginning of 2016 http://biobeasts.artix.com/biobeasts-free-to-play-mobile-game/

Art is never done, there are still UI and tutorial fixes that need to be done. NW handles all the graphic files of the game. We work together on marketing and promotional images that social sites need a million different sizes for and formatting those to fit every sites needs. Press releases and contacting those people finding out what they need from us. There is the Video that still needs to be finished, and lets not forget EpicDuel still. Yes the guest artists help with creating the art, but who gets to format, fix and database them? These things don't happen by pure magic.

---

Pardon my snippy-ness but I'm really getting tired of defending every aspect of our jobs here on these forums. You want to know why we don't comment as often? imagine always on the defense, trying to do your very best everyday but it will never be good enough. You rip us apart with no consideration or respect. I'm tired of hearing that I'm doing nothing, that we are lazy, that we don't care when its far from the truth. That's transparency for you. I love what I do and that's why I'm still doing it obviously, but I gotta say the toxic parts of gamer habits have reached an all time high. I don't mean for just AE or ED, I'm talking about online gaming in general. You guys can seriously do better then this. Be a better person and stop feeding into the over judgmental hate.

I want to point out the above is not directed to you Machaar, but to the forums as a whole. This is been a built up feeling I've had for the better part of the year and I felt now was a good time to express it. I'm not angry nor do my views have anything negative towards you. It's me expressing a re-occurring feeling.

Lord Machaar -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 16:24:31)

If I'm criticzing the team, I'm criticizing it for the sake of the team, when artix says that the whole AE company will be affected by the failure of such kickstarter.
This gets me worried about ED and Biobeasts, and the whole ED team, as their projects will be affected, although they have nothing to do with AQ3D's failure, but they belong to AE.
My idea is pretty simple, you charfade and I, know that there are tons of ED players that are more than willingly to spend tons of money to support the game, and I'm sure you have already witnessed that from last year's gifting, and I'm sure you will witness it in this year's gifting event too, as some players shared the amount of varium they bought (200k var, 300k var), so some players aren't interested in AQ3D itself but are interested in cross-games items, adding an ED one would massively help the kickstarter, and it will definetly delete any doubt such kickstarter will fail.

Well Charfade, you are only looking at the empty part of the glass, ED is 3 days away from one of its best events, which is gifting, I don't know about you but I'm sure this event was made by ED devs.
You aren't getting criticized guys about your work, or how good you are doing, Biobeasts already looks great and that shows how much fast you got adapted, but then, you should consider this, you aren't talking to a phone-gaming forum members or community in general, you are talking to browser gamers, who are interested in browser gaming, so it's no wonder you might face some backlash of presenting a totally different project to such community. Yet I think all this will be solved once biobeasts is released, so I don't think you should take this too heavily because it doesn't worth it.

Cyber Dream -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 16:38:38)

@Charfade On the behalf of the ED Fourms community, sorry for making you feel that way. But here is the way we see it from our side. Basically, the players were asking for the features that seem to be simple for a while, most of them to better factions which is the heart of the game. Also, balance...Why haven't we heard anymore talk about unique skills for each class? It's pretty useless to try to balance things when classes have recycled skills. Lately, classes are becoming more and more like each other which is a bad path to take. Each class is capable is doing the exact same thing. I would suggest making each class have their own unique advantages, disadvantage, and counters. Another thing, what about merc? That class is almost unplayable. Players want to see updates revolved around topics like this. But instead we get art and poorly developed cores which we discuss in the balance section. If the players saw you guys addressing stuff like this then I guarantee their attitudes would change. Well, I think lol.

---

I'm not bashing you or the team or anything. Im just giving an insight on why I think/know the players act the way they do towards you guys. I didn't make up anything, I took what I saw being talked about in the community every time I logged in and basically copied it here. Because the issues that they think are really important aren't addressed on a daily basis, they think that the devs don't care. You also have to remember that there is a bigger amount of the younger audience on ED now. So of course they're going to see things one sided most of the times and bash you guys.

Charfade -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 16:46:20)

Because I've explained time and time again why, here is a reminder

Quote: Charfade

Top reasons why suggestions dont get implemented in to the game
►The suggestion is game breaking, meaning it could open up the game to exploits, hacking and general cheating by other players.
►The suggestion is illegal for us to make.
►The suggestion can not be implemented due to a limitation of flash. Not the limitation or knowledge of the ED staff.
►The suggestion is bias, only favoring a particular group or just themselves. We have to consider the entire EpicDuel community when implementing new features.
►The suggestion would take more time to implement then that we have to create it. If we really like these suggestions we usually slowly develop them in the background and go un-announced until we are sure it can be implemented. Sometimes we spend time on a new feature and have to toss it out because of a limitation of flash or breaks the game in some way, etc. It slows down progress unfortunately.
►The suggestion isn't a priority. There are some suggestions we like, but others we like better. So the better ones get suggested and pushed up to the top while it could go months or even years for the lower priority ones to be implemented.

Cyber Dream -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 16:56:54)

@Charfade well, most players don't know this. Only people who use the forums on the daily basis knows this. Players who don't use the forums only come to complain and whine. One thing I suggested in the past was to get more players aware and active on the forums, then they could learn A LOT about ED. Everytime I take info from the fourms and try to tell it in game, I get told "you're not a mod, you don't know these things" or asked "How do you know this". If more players were aware of why something can't be put in game or why the war isn't starting, etc, then i'm pretty sure a lot of pressure would be taken off you guys. Sorry if upsetting you.

Therril Oreb -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 17:10:02)

Players are well aware of the forums. But if people don't read the forums, let alone post on the forums, there is little that can be done.
We do not force people to go on the forums, which is the main hub of communication.
So the lack of awareness is not the issue here.

The silly thing is that these are all really obvious... nobody's going to implement a suggestion in their game that doesn't really follow the above criteria.

I think people need to just put more thought into their suggestions before complaining about them not getting accepted.

Mother1 -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 18:55:01)

Sadly some people see said criteria above as an "You can do what we ask but you are using said list as an excuse not to do it" rather than a valid reason not to do said actions.

Remorse -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/9/2015 23:24:14)

I feel it would be appropriate to add something here having been a person who has made harsh crtisism on the game in the past, but also feels guilty with the implications this may have on the designers morale. Hopefully it could bring some peace of mind having known some of the mind-set behind some of this harsh criticism (at least my mind set).

1. Because they are worried and concerned for the longevity of the game: This may be less obvious based on how some people word their criticism but a huge part of the mindset behind the crtisim is based on love and loyalty for the game and the fear of it dying, whether the criticism is helpful or a good idea is irrelevant for this mind set and more an automatic reaction not unlike how you may make fun of a sibling when the truth behind the pain is you want them to improve. Studdies have shown that the players who make the criticism rather then quit are the ones who are incredibly
loyal.

2. Its never meant to be personal: it saddens me when the crtisim becomes a sort of an insult to someones work or accusations of a lack of. I think even when people do bring it down to personal insult about performance of the developers, that they don't truly ever mean it and are just blinded behind the fear of the first point I made.

I hope this brings a little bit of peace to the mind and perhaps prove player interactions is not to be avoided beacause of the ugly face value when behind that mask is an incredibly loyal fan base who love or once loved the game.

Thanks for reading,
Remorse.

Therril Oreb -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 3:09:33)

A loyal Fan base is something the developers really appreciate. And getting feedback and suggestions is very valuable.
If not for implementing said suggestion straight from the thread, it could give ideas to the staff to work with.

But whenever a suggestion does not get implemented or when feedback is not being used immediately, some criticism is being said that really is out of place.
The list given above is not an excuse, it is the truth.

If a suggestion is made to make a certain class stronger, chances are it would make that class suddenly the new meta. That is what we call a biased suggestion.
Now there have been suggestions that were meant to balance everything out, but maybe the time is not there or other plans have priority over it.

Ultimately, the devs are busy constantly. Not a day goes past without them working avidly on new content for either BioBeasts or EpicDuel.
Saying that the devs do not work fast enough or do what you want is just plain wrong, which was the point Charfade was trying to make.

If the players truly value EpicDuel, have faith in the staff. Support them rather than only criticize them for what you don't see.

Satafou -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 6:32:42)

I feel the main issue is in general updates are for very short term adjustments. There has been long term changes, most often with the release of a new phrase, however if you were to look at a timeline of Epicduel within the past 6 years, you will find that actually alot less has changed for the good than what most others games would achieve during that time period. Over 3 years ago in the release of delta we had the introduction of 3 new classes. That was a very exciting release and yes there were some problems at the beginnening with their design, for example blood mage having no physical shield of any kind. However despite that it was a solid release, however 3 years later and classes are aren't balanced and to make it worse, those 3 new classes no longer feel much different to their counter parts, for the reason being: Every class is enegry draining focused now, where as before classes had their obvious strengths and weaknesses. I'm aware you most likely already know the next point i bring up however it does need to be said, the implemention of passives to actives, was a big mistake. I'm not being negative about the change itself it was an idea that you tested out and it's good to experiment. However this change did not achieve what you wanted it to, as these actives are still essiential for each and every class apart from hybrid that is almost unusable due to it's ridiculous enegry requirement for such little benefit. What i don't understand is why do none of you ever admit, "You know what we tried something new, it didn't work out as we intented it to we're sorry" Rather than telling players that they're wrong and refusing to undo changes that yes, it may take work, but it's better for the game. I'd much rather and i'm sure the general community would also, wait awhile for a update that will make the game better than minor updates to keep the minority of players occupied.

I realise most of you probably won't read this, that's why i won't bother to make it any longer, but for the speculation of thought, why has this game achieved very little long term progress in terms of where it was in gamma/delta for example?

Silver Sky Magician -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 6:45:16)

^

There have been large strides forward in the Omega phase, most notably with the introduction of ranks, cores and Underdog mode, the equalization of enhancements, the elimination of P2W, and the new energy meta. We are at the point where balance has largely been achieved (though the Merc class does need to be relooked), something that was wholly elusive in previous phases. But the way we achieved balance has come at a cost - the apparent decrease in variation between classes. So, at this point, while we are still working on balance tweaks, we are also looking forward to shaking up the metagame by centering balance around build variety and unique playstyles. It is a massive undertaking that will not come anytime soon, but it is the next big step forward.

Remorse -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 10:30:06)

^
While it is good to hear plans to shack up the meta.

The mind set that lowering variety was some how considered increasing balance greatly concerns me.

To me the are two different things that sometimes cross paths. The worst decesion the game has made in my opinion was removing class passives and then on top of that provide they same set to classes that lacked in energy drains or regain.

By doing this change you take the unique advantages and disadvantages and remove them so what we have now is similar skills sets that are so easily compared and predicted that the small differences they do have are now much more aparant and effect balance drastically.

The game needs a massive overhaul to bring back HUGE class identity and most importantly bring back the strengths and weaknesses. Dont give every class a regain. And perhaps consider bringing back passives in a new way (separate tree).

All these large strides forward merely seem like band-aids to the game after the passive removal. (My opinionn)

What really annoys me because like I said im a loyal player who only wants the game to succeed. But what annoys me is when rather then listening to the large uproar at the time of the passive removal they ended up just banning every thread and deleting every post thay mentioned it being returned. This infuriated me and was the real reason I quit because this is the only way I see the game becoming enjoyable again and they went as far as to ban discussion on it? And was it really justified? Going by the checklist above it should be a suggestion worth considering and they never gave good reasons as to why it was removed in the first place.

You can't really expect an angelic like forum and player base when you start banning the popular consensis of its users.

Therril Oreb -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 13:06:03)

2 things Remorse.

1. The changes were not with the mindset of lowering variety, it was something that happened over time, one change at a time.

2. Passives are not the only thing in EpicDuel that can give builds more options. Passives did limit the builds as well since they were a must have above all else.
There is nothing useful about having a skill tree if there is a specific skill that everyone must have or not be able to have a chance.

The deleting and locking also happened due to the massive amount of flaming and general disrespect to both staff and other players sprouting from it.
The first rule on the AE forums is respect towards everyone and this was not happening in those threads.
There is also no use in asking for the return of passives since staff has confirmed multiple times they won't do it unless they see a good reason for it themselves.

This is not supposed to turn into a balance thread or a "Why is passives not returning" thread. Just wanted to give the reasons behind it.

Lord Machaar -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 15:16:54)

Same thing can currently be said for energy skills, such skills determine if X class is good or not. I don't think this "argument" answers the question why passives were removed, because if it was the case, we wouldn't have this problem with the new meta, which is energy skills limiting builds (Mercenaries for instance with static smash). Everything you basically said can be said about energy skills.

For me energy skills replaced passives, yet the difference is, energy skills are all about one stat which is energy, balancing skills that revolve around one stat is easier than balancing 6 different passive skills that revolve around different stats.

I won't say that passives were perfect, they did present a problem when it came to balance, especially after the introduction of the 3 new classes, the devs made a horrible mistake by using the old passives (reroute and bloodlust) with the new classes instead of making new ones.

Everything that can be said about passives can be said currently about energy skills, it's just easier now to balance energy skills, allowing a better balanced state of the game, but with less variety.

The berserker killer -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 15:33:11)

Is it so hard to return IPB (Influence per battle) when war is inactive? I mean you do realize 100-200 more players will come back for that simple feature right?

Satafou -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 15:47:30)

It's quite evident that passives should be returned, you have afew years of statistics now to prove that. The new actives that replaced passives are a must have for builds apart from hybrid and plasma that are not even worth using anymore.

Respect is something earned, no one is forced to respect anyone. Yes, it's the polite thing to do, but honestly you can't blame people for not respecting each other as most of the time when you do try to respect someone you don't, it just comes out as passive-agressiveness.

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin, people hate on changes because they feel passionate towards whatever is being changed. At the end of the day petty flaming means nothing, and those posts shouldn't get deleted, as it's just the possibility of good suggestions writen in a vulgar manner going to waste. It's the idea behind the flaming that is important. Why do they flame? More often than not there is multiple reasons as to why people do certain things and this includes flaming. The devs have to realise that no matter what occurs there will be flaming, it's the internet for goodness sake. Just don't take the flaming to heart as alot of the time people flame the changes, not the devs. When the devs do recieve their share of flame it's most likely due to them doing stuff such as locking threads.

I'm not going to comment anymore as it is going off-topic, however i do wish that in the future, (if this game has a future expanding 2-3 years) that more of an effort is made between player and dev communication. It personally appears to myself that the devs sometimes forget that they are players aswell, and focus far too much on the rules and regulations that eloquently portray them as old farts.

ambien -> RE: =ED= December 01, 2015 - Tis the Season for Gifting (12/10/2015 17:12:06)

gifting starts on the 11th. l wonder if the devs think this will save ed. with around 198--- 220 players max on line at one time. l hope the gifting if any that we will not have botting again hope not.

some of the post have asked the question about passive skills, well l think it was one of the biggest mistake they did beside bringing omega in the system. will ed live on well up to the devs of the game. l think ed will go by the way side in 3 -- 4 months if they do not go back to fix for it. bio app hope it works but if it does not ed might go away faster. having new people come in an draw new items for gifting will not fix ed. anyway gifting will not be like before l think because lack of players. l would like to hear from night ,or titan about the faith of ed ,

my thoughts on this always the syfy

There is nothing useful about having a skill tree if there is a specific skill that everyone must have or not be able to have a chance.

I'd like to add to Lord Machaar who was spot on about the energy skills giving the same problem...if you call that a problem. I think it was because it was a result of lots of remaining skill points after you optimise your build. You gotta remeber you are limited to one move per turn, the best stratagies where to optmise a few skills and attacks which made effective use of their cool down. With a few extra points for different situations such as shields. You gotta remeber its not optimal to always max a skill your investing in, often you need to keep the cost low so passives become a sink for left over points and finished of an optimised build whilst adding class identity. Never were they "Must haves" because of brocken power rather a result of a flooded skill tree with not enough turns nor incentive to invest highly in most skills.

Unfortunately you're right however the devs said they will never return however, im an extremily stubborn and loyal player so I will continue to argue for their return because i think, its whats best for the game.

Funny thing is silver sky said that they are now trying to increase class diveristy again. So what possible reason is there to dismiss class passives as a potential good idea. Except maybe they don't want to admit removing them was a bad decesion.

Removing all threads and posts at the time because SOME flamed seems like an oversensitive and imature response to the players who were upset. And also prevented giving players a chance to prove it was wrong or suggest great alternatives such as a separate passive tree.
