Quad Darts -> Fire Scythe Nerf (12/11/2015 0:53:47)

As We All Know Strenght Tech Mage Is By Far The Best Build In The Game If You Balanced The Amount Of Dex, The Level Of Heal And Battery Even With Kartherax It's Still Quite Difficult To Beat Them, So What If Fire Scythe Became Deflectable? I Mean If You Used Strenght Tech Mage And Added An Undeflectable Core+Fire Scythe Cyber Yeti Becomes Useless, Not To Mention That You'll Still Have Plasma Rain.

What.

Fire scythe is so darn cost-inefficient that it's a joke skill that's only run for being unblockable, and still it falls way off in comparison to bludgeon because you NEED the dex since guns no longer scale with strength. The least they can do is buff fire scythe or change it to improve its build versatility. Also you're complaining about Cyber Yeti of all bots being useless. Cyber Yeti isn't supposed to be some cheap "use bot become god for 2 turns." You have to THINK and time it right to utilize it correctly or people will just stall and outplay you.

@Exploding Penguin

Even if you timed it, they'll still have a sword core (costs 90 energy),fire scythe (costs 110 on lv.1), battery, generator/piston and assimilation.
I don't think that the opponent won't be able to use any of them on the same time unless you did everything you could to get a perfect time; and if you somehow did it I don't think that you'll have enough energy/health to continue and win the battle.

Cyber Yeti was just an example, another example is kartherax.
If your opponent is using a lv.5 heal you'll probably end up losing unless you blocked once, which you'll have a low chance on since he/she probably got equal or more dex than you, which will lead to a loss.
Fire Scythe is one of the best strenght-based skills, due to it's low energy cost, the fact that it can't be stopped and it's decent damage.

Last but not least have you ever thought about comparing it to Fire Ball?

Fire Scythe and Fireball aren't comparable skills. The first thing is that one scales with strike damage and the other scales with strength. Fire scythe winds up being affected by ranks while fireball doesn't which is a plus for fire scythe, but if you do the math the support requirement that it has completely guts the skill. Another huge problem with it is its placement on the skill tree. You're most likely not going to be using overload since it requires a staff, and plasma rain in strength builds isn't a very common option since they're better off spending their energy on other attacks. You essentially have to pay an extra 2 skill points just to get access to fire scythe.

The skill in itself is really more of a 1-point wonder than anything else, but because of its placement it's more of a 1-point wonder which costs 3 skill points. Whether or not this is worth it is entirely up to the player but the skill itself isn't OP at all; it has too many detriments to it. The only plus is that it's simply a good way for strength TM to spend their energy since they get so much from the assimilation drain.

If any nerf is needed to strength TM, it's gotta be assimilation instead because of how oppressive it is at high strength levels. nerfing fire scythe would just end up gutting other builds that might be able to use it.

Lord Machaar -> RE: Fire Scythe Nerf (12/11/2015 12:52:44)

The only nerf I would suggest is assimilation nerf, otherwise, I guess the latest nerf of bludgeon did a good job to slow down such builds.
Assimilation's nerf isn't necessarily too, but when compared to merc's static smash, it looks like an OP skill, I mean even a max static smash used with a 5 focus build can't drain as much as assimilation can with a str build, taking in consideration that assimilation is a secondary energy skill for TMs. So what I suggest is a buff to static smash maybe to put mercenaries on par with other classes.

Same as the mercenary thread. Could you all move discussion to the official Tech Mage thread please? This will be locked as such because that thread is made specifically for such discussions. ~Caststarter
