unknownaka -> Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 17:01:26)

After pre beta got released, if I try to play AQ3D, it crashes my computer real bad, is anyone else having this issue with pre beta?

LyRein -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 17:02:39)

Your computer probably can't handle the new lighting and shadows.

Heroes of the Scape -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 17:02:47)

Nope, I have not had that issue. What browser are you using? Are you doing anything else while playing the Pre-Beta?

unknownaka -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 18:19:20)

Nothing else, I'm using mozilla

afterlifex -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 19:00:00)

Nope no crashing but monsters load a little slow for me now since pre-beta started.
(very old laptop so it's to be expected)

Noldor Numbwit -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/18/2016 21:20:26)

I am also getting slow monster loads...but I also have 1.5mb DSL connection (can't afford anything faster) so that may be the contributing factor.

No crashes here yet.

If it's slow, try a different browser. I had been using IE but now it has very low fps since pre-beta launched. Safari seemed to make everything normal again for me.

LambO -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/19/2016 10:30:30)

All I get is sometimes when I load the browser, (Opera) I get a message saying Unity is slowing down my computer.

My computer is doo doo though, guessing 8+ years old.

Rickyb20 -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/19/2016 10:55:12)

If I may ask, what operating system are you using? And do any weird sounds come from your laptop when the crashing happens?

Yamadronis -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/19/2016 12:33:37)

It could be an issue with the game, but it could also be a damaged or failing hard drive, a broken driver, or a failing video card. Especially if your computer hangs and makes a very grating buzzing noise through the sound system.

unknownaka -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/19/2016 20:41:26)

Im using mozilla firefox as my browser, my system is intel inside pentium, my computer version is windows 7, when I play, there's a very loud buzzing noise coming from my pc.

Very obviously an issue with the cooling hardware. Have it checked like mentioned below. ~ Gjappy

Sounds like it's your hardware. You need to get your computer looked at. You may have an issue with a fan that causes your computer to overheat and fail, or your hard-drive may be on its way out. Take it to a shop, get it looked at.

Evangel -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/21/2016 3:01:36)

My computer shut down on me twice tonight playing AQ3D. Problem is, I don't know if it's my laptop finally on its last leg or the game crashing my computer.

Sounds like your computer crashed due to overheating; you should get the hardware checked. ~ Gjappy

Harrison -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/21/2016 4:44:35)

We don't know either. It's best if you provide us your hardware specs so we know what the issue is with the game or your laptop. Typically when computers shut down while playing a game, it's probably not the game's fault, rather the computer itself, due to overheating, or a power supply failure.

@above, never had/seen a video card crash an entire PC. Normally GPUs that "go bad" will just freeze the game you're currently playing or mess up your resolution.

DarkLore -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/21/2016 9:16:14)

The worst thing that ever happened close to crashing was freezing up Mozilla on my end and said something about an error message after it closed. Can't remember sadly.

Yamadronis -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (1/21/2016 13:36:19)

@Harrison It happens sometimes on laptops where it's an integrated chipset, but it's usually comorbid with an already unstable hard drive. When the computer tries to fix the crash, the hard drive can't find a resolution and the computer borks.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (4/6/2016 3:30:25)

for me, it just freezes up at times. namely when anyone's talking in the chat box. i'm using a lenovo r400 with win xp(32bit) on Mozilla yet some how i have yet to actually crash and am doing better then those with "better" operating systems.

if the pcs on to long & doing to much it can crash. my pc did it to me me once after spending 13 hours farming for the runes of awe in aqw after they came out, but i had the pc on next to me for almost 3 days straight without rest(for me or the pc) because i got hooked on the wii version of sonic colors that i was renting from a redbox. i started playing & could not stop til i had beaten it... it happens every couple of years, i'll start playing a game & won't stop til i crash(which has never happened) or the game crashes/ starts to slow down a good bit or i beat it
pokemon yellow, loz spirit tracks, sonic colors & i don't think i'd have been able to stop playing aq3d that easily if it wasn't for the lag...

Gjappy -> RE: Anyone Else Finding That AQ3D is crashing their computers? (4/12/2016 14:26:00)

The reason that the AQ3D web player is getting more and more borky is because browsers are slowly dropping Unity Support.

At a point in time AQ3D will possibly not even being able to be played in browser anymore as announced by Cysero in the Design Notes
I would recommend everyone to move to play on Steam; this might resolve most issues with the browser cliënt.

To answer the real question;
why does AQ3D web cliënt cause issues like crashes and freezing?

This is mainly, because unlike a steam cliënt your browser has to download all content every time you run AQ3D.
It does not save all game files permanently; which is why it makes your PC work super hard to have the game running.
So that makes it way heavier to run for your PC than the steam cliënt.

You might notice high CPU usage (if you open task manager) and lag, freezes, heated PC etc. or even crashes when your PC can't pull the high amount or RAM usage or overheats.
Besides that; the web version also gives some strange graphical bugs with shades and lighting at times.

How to fix most issues with the web cliënt?

1. Make sure your computer is able to pull off the CPU usage, for me it is currently like 300,000 Kb to run it on highest graphics and play.
You might want to close additional programs via task manager to make it easier for your PC.

2. It does matter which browser you use. Firefox and Torch are slightly heavier than Opera.

3. Running system also matters somehow. The AQ3D testers found out that Windows 7 or Windows 8 cause less issues than Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.
If you 're playing on another device than Laptop or PC then do realise we actually only build it for PC so far, so fair chance your Mac or Tablet might be struggling to pull AQ3D web cliënt.

4. Graphical settings ease down the CPU usage, so lowering the graphical settings and sounds might just give enough space to make it work for you.

I hope this answers most questions.

PS. I'll edit in some answers to people that had individual issues.
