Frequently Asked Questions of AQWorlds

This is the AQWorlds Questions & Answers Forum FAQ. You can find some of the more commonly asked questions posted in this forum.

If it is a question about the most recent release, please look for a Q&A thread specifically for that release - with luck, someone may have already answered your question, and if not, people familiar with the release will be looking there. If you find a bug, please report it in the Bug Tracker. Be sure to include as much information as you can.

Other good places to look into are:
  • Player Handbook
  • AQW Guides forum
  • The Official AQW Wiki
  • AQW Help Pages
  • Lorepedia

Please check these links and the FAQ to see if your question has been answered.

New players may visit the How to Play! guide for information on the basics you need to know for the game. Open the Book of Lore and click on "Story" to look for the current storyline available. You may also look at Storyline Walkthrough which has all the details on storyline which has been released.

For returning players, check out the Chronicle of Releases page to see what you have missed when you are away!

    [A] Player Equipment & Quests

    1. "When will _____ happen?" "When is _____ coming out?" "What is going to happen next !?" "Is _____ going to be released?" "Will _____ go rare?"
Most of the time, no one on the forums know as we're not the staff. The ONLY time that we would know is if there is an announcement by the staff. AQWorlds typically has new releases on Fridays, but there's no guarantee that something will be released on a particular Friday. So only the AQW staff know what will happen with each new release, unless they announce the release -- in which case, you'd know about it, too. We don't know what will happen in the future, whether it be concerning classes, areas or items. Stay updated by reading the AQWorlds Design Notes. If you'd like to know the latest releases, check out the AQW Wiki New Releases page which is updated by the fellow AQW players after a major release.

    2. What is the drop rate of ___? Does it still drop?
We don't know the drop rates to items -- the staff very rarely announce drop rates for anything. If an item isn't dropping, check the Official AQW Wiki to make sure you're fighting the right monster(s), and if you are, understand that you might just be unlucky. Just be patient and keep trying -- you can use the =AQW= Let's Party! thread found in the AQW General Discussion for assistance in farming for an item. Try clearing your cache if the problem continue to exist.

Also do note that skills and your luck stat do not affect the drop rate. There's nothing you can do to make items drop more or less frequently, and luck doesn't affect anything outside of combat. The myth about skills affecting drop rate is exactly that -- a myth that started around Beta that was disproved in one of Artix's Design Notes.

(Note: Despite the Luck stat saying that it may have effects out of combat when you hover over it with your mouse in-game (here is a picture for reference), the Luck stat does not affect the drop rate in any way as mentioned above.)

    3. Can I wear my Legend items after my Upgrade expired? What will happen to them?
No. All legend items will be unequipped. If you are using a legend-only weapon, it will be swapped with the Default Sword. If you are using a legend-only class, it will be swapped with No Class. Your items won't be deleted -- they will stay in your inventory, but you can't use them until you're a legend again.

    4. What will happen to my Legend only house/house items when I expire?
If you have a Legend only house, the house will be removed and replaced by the Cottage, removing the decorations within it at the same time. As with normal equipment, you will still have all your houses/house items, but you will be unable to use the Legend only ones unless you re-upgrade.

However, if you have a non-Legend/AC house equipped when you expire, the house and all decorations will stay equipped, even Legend only ones.

    5. What does "Rare" mean?
In Artix Entertainment games, a "rare" item is something you cannot obtain anymore. If you missed your shot at these items, you're out of luck.

Seasonal Rares, on the other hand, do return. They are released during one of our in-game holiday celebrations, but after the celebration is over, you will have to wait until next year's holiday celebration to get the item again.

    6. What is the best weapon in the game?
There is no best weapon -- the only major difference is the way they look. Some weapons are different from normal weapons and have 'unstable' ranges, such as some of Nulgath's weapons. However this does not mean they are better, some classes suit a stable range while others may take advantage of an unstable one. It comes down to the preference of each individual player, and the suitable enhancements which are applied to the your equipments that make you more powerful. Refer to the Weapon Damage Chart for more information.

    7. Why are pets in-game Legend only? Is there a pet I can get if I'm a free player?
Pets are usually available as a membership perk. Non-Legend pets may occasionally be made available through special promotional offers, such as purchasing AE merchandise (like the Save Chuckles T-shirt), attending conventions that AE is at, or using an AE Upgrade Card during a certain period of time. For example, Cole was given to all of those who used an AE Upgrade Card during Thanksgiving week 2009, and the Armored Platinum Dragon was given to Founders. Once in a very long while, there will be a non-Legend pet available through ACs.

Battle Pets, which can be used for special classes which are designed to use them during battles, are currently all Legend-only or obtained through special events. There are no plans to make this type of pet available to non-Legend for gold or for ACs.

Bank Pets like the Twilly Bank Pet, which allows you to store items for free wherever you are, can be obtained through ACs for free players.

    8. When are the skills unlocked? What is the 6th blank attack for?
Skills are unlocked at ranks 2, 3, and 5, and most classes have passive skills at ranks 4 and 10 -- check the Classes page for more information. The 6th skill is used for Potions and Scrolls. You can find a list of all potions and scrolls here. It is important to note that when you sell a class, you lose the rank you have with it. Storing a class in your bank does not affect the rank that you currently have.

    9. How much Exp/Rep do I need to level/rank up?
All information about ranking/leveling can be found on the Experience, Class Points, & Reputation page.

    10. Why are some of the quests in red and why can't I accept them?
If a quest is in red, it means you have not unlocked it yet. If you click on the quest, it should say in red at the top why you can't accept it. Some require you to unlock or complete other quests or reach a certain point in the storyline, and some quests have a level or reputation level requirement. They might be Legend-only, or require you to have an item in order to accept it. Daily quests, found in reputation storyline and in some events like Drakath's Quests in They Might Be Giants Event, are available only once per day. Monthly quests, like the Free Member Magic Keys quest, can only be done once in a month.

    11. What do my stats do? What do my stats affect? What Enhancements work best with _____ Class?
Take a look at the Useful/Recommended Class Builds guide.

It contains the most useful and best recommended builds that suits for your class. Please remember the following:
  • Your Luck stat does not affect drop rate or anything else outside of combat. The only thing it's confirmed to raise is your critical hit damage.

    12. I chose Good, but decided to switch to Evil (or vice versa). What happens to my items and my faction rank?
If you ranked up in one faction, bought items, and then switch sides, nothing is affected except for your current faction. You'll keep all the items you bought from that faction, and you'll still be able to equip them. You'll also keep your rank for that specific side (so if you ranked up in Good, your ranks stay in Good and you have to build up Evil from wherever that is). You won't be able to access your previous side's shops anymore, though.

    13. I need to find someone that has ______ so I can do/finish a quest! Can someone meet me in-game?
You can look around popular places such as Yulgar's Inn or Battleon to see if people have the pet you're looking for. Oftentimes, there will also be people with the pet equipped at farming spots for the items required for the quests. If you can't find anybody, you can use the =AQW= Let's Party! thread found at the AQWorlds General Discussion forum to post for help. (Don't forget to read the first post before posting!)

    14. How do I beat the /Dance Dance game? It's so hard!
There is no easy way to beat it. Just keep practicing and eventually you will beat it. If you feel the game is lagging, turn the graphics down to low and play on "Tiny" screen size. If you think that you still aren't be able to beat the minigame, try searching on sites like Youtube to see how others overcome the challenge.

    [B] Gameplay

    1. Can I be a moderator?
Positions for AQW Game Moderators are available occasionally, but there are pre-requisites and a resume has to be submitted. For full details check the Want to become a Moderator or Staff Member? Please remember that this is for Game Moderators only, which is an entirely different position from the Forum Moderator and ArchKnights. There are never any forms to fill out for an AE Forum Moderator or AK position as the Staff will approach you, not the other way round.

    2. Somebody told me they needed my password! / Someone said they could hack/delete/ban my account! What should I do?
Report them immediately. (See below for details on using the in-game report function.) NEVER give away your information to anybody. The people that claim they can hack or delete your account cannot do so unless you give them your password. Only moderators who have a gold name in-game, can ban your account (and they never ban for no reason). Refer to this Help Page for more information on how to protect your account. If they're still pestering you after you told them no, go ahead and use the /ignore command to ignore them.

While on that topic, there is no such thing as an undercover moderator. If a person does not have a gold name, he or she is not a mod. AE staff will NEVER ask you for your password -- they DO NOT need it to modify your account (and can look it up anyway). For a list of Artix Entertainment Staff, refer to the Portal Site or the AQW Staff list.

If you'd like to verify whether he or she is an in-game moderator, simply click on his character and avatar in game, then select Moderator? -- a pop-up will appear to let you know of his or her identity.

    3. How do I report a hacker? What about someone who is swearing?
You can bring up the report menu in-game to report a hacker. It does not function in canned servers as the system works on the ability to chat in AQWorlds.

  • Click on their character and then on their character portrait (which appears next to yours in the upper left corner of the game), and then choose "Report" from the options on the list which appears.
  • Open the list of players in the room by clicking the "U" button which makes the list of players in the room appear in the center of your screen. Click on the player in questions name and then choose "Report" from the options on the list which appears.
  • Open the list of players in the room by clicking the arrow next to the room name in the lower right corner. Click on the player in questions name and then choose "Report" from the options on the list which appears.
  • Type /report <player name> into the chat to automatically bring up the same report window. For example, if you need to report someone named "Player Name" you would type: "/report Player Name".

Using the in-game report system is the only reliable way to ensure that something gets seen by a moderator. While you are welcome to send a private message to a moderator, it's not nearly as effective as using the in-game report system. If you do end up sending a PM on the forums or on IRC, be sure to include a screenshot, the name of the player, and why you are reporting them. Please DO NOT create a publicly viewable post accusing other players of hacking, cheating, or otherwise breaking the rules.

    4. I keep getting logged out/disconnected. What should I do!?
To begin, check this Help Page. It lists the stuffs which are looked into often, but there are several other factors that might affect your connection. First, you might have a bad connection to your internet. If this is the case, simply reconnect to your network. If this does not work, try playing using Medium or Low quality graphics and turning off pets and sound. (You can do all this by clicking on the button towards the lower-right corner with the gears on it.) If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache. Uninstalling and then reinstalling Flash may also help.

If you get a sixty-second disconnect, it only means that you were clicking on the skills too quickly, spam-clicking buttons, or doing something else the server doesn't like. You won't get banned for hacking if you weren't.

    5. What is the best place to farm for Gold / Class Points / Experience / Rep?
Check out the AQW Guides forum. On the forum section you can refer to A Guide to AQWorlds Farming and Reputation Farming Guide -- both which are great guides on farming. Another thread you should look at is the =AQW= Let's Party! Thread in the AQWorlds General Discussion, where you can find or create parties to farm with.

    6. How do I tell/PM someone with a space in their name? How do I talk using party chat? How do I turn off party chat? What are the other commands/emotes that can be used in-game?
You would type the player's name, hit space, hit the > key, and hit space again. For example, if you wanted to say hi to someone named "Player Name", you wouldn't type "/tell Player Name". Instead, you would type: "Player Name > Hi!" and it will automatically be converted to the correct format.
To turn on party chat, type /p and then press the spacebar. To turn off party chat, type either /1 or /s and then press the spacebar.

For more informations on all the commands that are available in-game, please refer to AQW Wiki's Commands & Canned Chat page.

    7. Someone used an acronym or term I don't recognize. What does it mean?
You can ask them, or ask someone else. Here is a list of common chat: Abbreviations & Acronyms.

    8. How do I know "who done it" in the SleuthHound Inn?
After finding the suspects and the weapons scattered around the inn, you must collect information from each of the maids/butlers in the SleuthHound inn. You can use the check sheet that Beleen made if you need a way to narrow it done to the culprit. The answer is randomly generated each time you play through it, so there is no set answer.

    9. How can I find my AQW character ID?
  • Purchase a house. Your character ID will be the number at the bottom-right corner where the room number usually is.
    or
(Only works if you have linked your AQW account to a Master Account)
  • Log in to your Master Account, click "My Games" and click your AQW account name under "Account Info and Upgrades".

Your character ID will be the numbers following "guid=" in the URL:
    http://portal.battleon.com/account/games/AQW.asp?guid=####

    10. How and where do I enhance a weapon? What about a helm or a cape?
There are people all over Lore who sell enhancements. If you click on the "Enhancements" button in Battleon, Twilly will tell you who sells what type of enhancement. Find someone who does. Then, click what enhancement you want, and a new window will appear that lets you enhance your items. There is a walkthrough on how to enhance items in the Player Handbook. It is important to note that you can enhance a weapon multiple times, so you can enhance to level 6, level 8 later, etc.

    [C] Upgrading

**For more information regarding payment, take a look at this Help Page.

    1. How can I become a Founder/Upholder/Beta Tester/VIP?
Only Legends who upgraded their account during the first month in AQWorlds can become a Founder. You can no longer become a founder now.

The upholder badge is given annually during the AQW Birthday period and once it's gone, the specific upholder badge and item(s) for that year will never return again. You must wait till the following year, in which you will be offered a different badge and item(s). All upholder items can be found here.

Beta Tester badge is given to players who have verified their accounts and played AQWorlds during the Beta Testing phase (September-October 2008). Beta Characters are characters that were created during or before that time. You can no longer become a Beta Tester or a Beta Character.

VIP, also known as Very Important Player, is given to players who has upgraded their account on or after July 21st, 2011 with the 12 months (or 1 year) AQW or HeroSmash Membership package (assuming you have your HeroSmash account linked to your AQW account via the Artix VIP Membership Info page).

    2. Can I purchase ACs without purchasing an upgrade?
Yes you can, by using this link: AQWorlds Upgrade/AC.

    3. Can I get ACs without paying for them?
Yes you can. Use the AExtras or download the AQW BattleBar. If you refer a friend to AQWorlds and your friend upgrades, you will also get some ACs.
You can also get ACs by visiting Ballyhoo (/Join Ballyhoo). You can only view Ballyhoo ads up to 10 times if you are in the US -- fewer if you live in a different country.

    4. Can I stack/combine upgrades?
Yes, it is possible. If you are already a Legend, click the "Extend your Legend" link in the Account Manager. Follow the steps to purchase another Legend subscription, and the newly-purchased subscription should be added on to your existing membership. Note that there is a limit to buying Legend packages if you have too many years ahead bought for. If you have an Artix account linked to your AQW account, log in to the Portal and click on My Games. Under your AQW Game Account, it would tell you the date on which you could next extend your Legend should you by past the limit of upgrading.

    5. How do I use an Artix Entertainment Retail Upgrade Card to purchase an AQWorlds Legend or ACs?
  • Log in to your Master Account. If you don't have one already, click register.
  • Link your AQW account to your Master Account, if you haven't already. Then, click the "Shop" at the options above the site.
  • From there, select Artix Entertainment Upgrade Cards, enter the code from your card, and click "Redeem".
  • Now, click "Dashboard" at the bottom of your status panel. Select your linked AQW account and select the upgrade option you want.

    6. Can I use my AdventureQuest upgrade card on AQW? The instructions say it will only work with AQ, DF, or MQ.
Yes it will. All Artix Entertainment upgrade cards, regardless of whether or not AQW is listed on them, can get you Legend status or ACs.

    7. How can I buy ACs using SMS?
  • Log in to the AQWorlds Upgrade page.
  • Scroll down. At the bottom, there is a button to choose to buy 1,000 ACs via SMS.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to pay for 1,000 ACs using SMS.

    8. What are ACs/What is the best way to spend them?
This Guide to AQW's Adventure Coins will explain what ACs are, some of the favored ways to buying and spending them, and much more.

  • Zyrain -> RE: AQWorlds Frequently Asked Questions (3/9/2016 5:46:43)

    [D] Game Accounts

    1. My account has been hacked/stolen! What do I do?
We cannot help you on the forums. You must use the AQW Help Pages in order to get your account back. Follow the directions and instructions. Please supply as much information as you can, too.
Read the Scam Awareness page for more tips on how to secure your account.

    2. When I try to log in, it says my account is locked/disabled! What should I do?
Chances are, if your account has been disabled, you were reported for breaking the rules and were banned by a moderator. Ban lengths will usually be for 24 hours, 3 days, or one week, though permanent bans are possible for repeat offenders or serious violations. If you were caught cheating or hacking, your account is banned permanently and there's nothing anyone can do about it. However, members will be given second chance (See this Design Notes for more information)

If your account has been locked, you should refer to the AQW Help Pages. Screenshot proof can be provided for any ban longer than 24 hours. Please do NOT contact a forum moderator or ArchKnight about AQW bans. Likewise, posting about your locked account will only get you directed back to the aforementioned Help Page.

    3. How do I verify my email?
Go to the Account Manager and log in. Click on 'Newsletter'. If it says Unconfirmed, click 'Resend Email'.
You will receive an email shortly. Follow its instructions, and you will receive a success Email once your Email verification is complete.

You can only verify Email if you are thirteen years old or older. If you are over thirteen now but were not when you created your account, you can verify your Email by clicking 'Change Email' in the Account Manager and entering your Email address.

    4. How do I verify my account, and what do I get if I do? How do I un-verify my account?
On the AQW homepage, look to the left side of the screen. Under the "Account" header, you will see links to verify Guardian, DragonLord, or Star Captain accounts. Click on the appropriate link and follow the on-screen directions. If you have verified a Guardian, DragonLord, and/or Star Captain account, you gain access to the Guardian, DragonLord, and/or Star Caption shop(s) respectively. These shops can be found in the Guardian Tower (/join tower). Please note that verifying an account does not make you a Legend in AQW; that is a separate payment.

To un-verify your Account, go to the Account Verification Problems Help Page. It may take a few days, but your account should un-verify. Once you have un-verified your account, you will no longer be able to access the shops in the Guardian Tower, and any items you bought from the Verification Shops will be deleted.

    5. How can I delete my account?
Go to the Account Manager and log in. On the left side of the screen, you will see the "Delete Account" button. Click on it. BE CAREFUL! If you delete your account and then wish to make a new one, make sure you UN-VERIFY ANY OTHER ACCOUNTS LINKED TO THAT ACCOUNT, or you will have problems!

    6. Can I recover lost items?
No. As stated on the Lost Equipment page:
    quote:

If you made a mistake and accidentally got rid of an item, you cannot have it back. If you lose all of your equipment/experience/Adventure Coins due to 'hacking', we cannot give it back to you. We just do not have a system in place to allow us to replace your equipment easily.

    7. Can I trade/sell my account?
No. As stated on the Artix Entertainment Rules and Policies page:
    quote:

Do not share, trade, give or sell your account to anyone.

Zyrain -> RE: AQWorlds Frequently Asked Questions (3/9/2016 5:47:42)

    [E] Miscellaneous

    1. I have a great suggestion for AQWorlds. Where can I post it?
If you would like to make a suggestion, please do so in the AQWorlds Suggestions Forum, in the proper thread. If there is no appropriate thread for your suggestion, it means that the AQW team isn't taking those kinds of suggestions, so please hold on to them for now. Please remember to read the rules of posting and the first post of each thread before posting.

    2. How do I change my good/evil alignment?
If you have chosen evil as your initial alignment then you must go to King Alteon in Swordhaven (/join castle). Once there, select the "Good Reputation" button and then "Switch to good". You will have to pay 100,000 gold for a "Good Alliance Contract" to switch your alignment to good.

If you have chosen good as your initial alignment then you must go to Gravelyn in Shadowfall (/join shadowfall). Once there, select the "Evil Reputation" button and then "Switch to evil". You will have to pay 100,000 gold for an "Evil Alliance Contract" to switch your alignment to evil.
This can be done as many times as necessary for either alignment, as long as you have enough gold to do so.

    3. What are the achievements that are currently available?
Most character page have some sort of Achievement. All achievements available/soon-to-be available can be found here: http://aqwwiki.wikidot.com/book-of-lore

    4. How do you get to Character Pages? What does everything mean?
You can get to your character's page by going on the game and clicking on any character’s (including yours) profile at the top left corner after you click on that character. If you want to see someone else's character page, type their name in at the end of the URL. If there is already someone’s name in the URL box, simply take it out and replace the two names. http://www.aq.com/aw-character.asp?id= is the default link to the character pages. (Note that this will take you to nobody's character page and you will have to type the person's name in.)

Character Page also show your items in your inventory. AC items are shown in orange. For Legend-only item, it is shown in purple. Various symbols are also shown next to your item name. You can find a list of all character badges here, as well as how to get them.

There are also different character page backgrounds, for a list of them and where to find them in game, look here: http://aqwwiki.wikidot.com/character-page-backgrounds

    5. How can I reduce lag while I'm playing?
To start, close other programs that you don't need to have open. Make sure you don't have very many windows or tabs open, and if you do, make sure none of them are running Flash applications (that includes YouTube videos). Having extra programs open and having additional Flash programs/videos playing will only take up your computer's processing power and make AQW slower on your computer. You can also speed up the game by playing in a smaller window. Just simply zoomed in and out of your browser by holding "Ctrl and +/-" (for Mac users -- "Command and +/-")
Make sure you've the newest flash player upgraded. To download the latest version, click here.

Additionally, open the Options window in-game (click the button towards the lower-right corner with the gears on it). Set your graphics to Medium or Low, turn off sounds, and turn off pets. Uninstalling and then reinstalling Flash might also help.

    6. How can I make AQW work with Adobe Flash player 10?
Refer to the Adobe Flash Guide, which include the steps to take to update your Flash Player.

    [F] Item Colors

Here is some easy to use and install software in order to find out what is the hex code of a certain color.

  • ColorZilla

This is a third party add-on for Firefox and Chrome. Yes this is also compatible with chrome.
Go to their site and install it to your preferred browser.
After install the icon [image]http://i42.tinypic.com/358dzd2.jpg[/image] should be in the top right corner of your browser or ctrl+/ to check if its hidden.
By clicking the icon it will activate the eyedropper. You can scan through your screen and pick the color you desire, however if the image or the color you want is in flash you have to take a screenshot of it and save it to your drive then open it to your browser.
The codes should appear when you move your mouse around just like the image. The code that you are looking for is the boxed one.

Click the arrow in the icon to view the drop down menus.
Click color picker; a new window should pop up. Click the "Palette" tab then change the dropdown menu to "History" then all the colors and codes you had pick should all be there if you weren't able to read the code.
You an also use the "Zoom" feature for more accurate and precise color or hold down ctrl then (+) to zoom in and (-) to zoom out. In order to get back to normal view ctrl+0.
I would also suggest checking the Wiki first if that item you are looking has an image and you can use that instead, that would save you time and trouble from saving it to your drive.

  • Instant Eyedropper.

This program might be the easiest to use. Upon installing open your system tray then long press the program icon to activate the cursor.
    [image]http://i41.tinypic.com/25p1taq.jpg[/image] [image]http://instant-eyedropper.com/_i/shot2.gif[/image]
Hover to the color you want then let go. The code will automatically be copied to your clipboard ready for pasting.
This program can also detect colors from flash not like the Colorzilla.

The major difference between the two is that Colorzilla is an in-browser add-on while the Instant Eyedropper tool is a third party application.

Here are also some resources if you "think" you know the color your looking for.
