Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/1/2016 1:18:08)

So BNHA Anime was over on Sunday, rounded up really well and Season 2 is already confirmed. Great news upon greater news it seems.

And then Assassination Classroom Anime is finally over. It rounded up its conclusion pretty well (especially Karasuma and Irina moments... priceless). Despite that I do have some complaints about the series (mainly the extremely fast pacing and cut off materials), I happened to like the Anime series a lot. Sure, there were some misses like the final battle between Korosensei and his (former) student w/ Yanagisawa, but outside of some episodes, it really wasn't a boring series.
Now if we'd just have an OVA about the 4 chapter special...

shadow dragon666 -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/1/2016 3:11:45)

Anyone who likes Berserk there is a new manga in town that fits right up that dark demented warped world alley you've been wanting to scratch.

It's called Fire Punch.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/1/2016 5:53:19)

quote:

I can't help but feel like Bakugo might end up as a villain considering some of his really crazy behavior in the series. The hand villain guy seemed like a major threat that will be returning in the future. Nice to see Deku really coming into his own. Although it's not a bad finale to the first season and the second is already confirmed the first few episodes really made it hard for me to relate to the main character and it did come off as very cliche and kind of emotionally manipulative.

there's still more to come, the anime only got to the 4th arc out of the 9 going on 10 arcs, next up is the sports festival arc which is also the biggest arc thus far.
in order:
Entrance Exam Arc 4 chs & 4 eps
Quirk Apprehension Test Arc 3 chs 2 eps
Battle Trial Arc 4ch 3 eps
Unforeseen Simulation Joint Arc 10chs 5 eps
Sports Festival Arc 22 chs
Field Training Arc 15 chs
End of Term Test Arc 10 chs
School Trip Arc 14
Hideout Raid Arc 13, ongoing & should end soon. this also seems to mark the ending of the U.A. Beginnings Saga
additionally the last episode of this season previews the main antagonist of the Field Training Arc so odds are season 2 is going to that arc at least

Continuing my Final Thoughts on Spring 2016 shows.

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri
spoiler:

I gotta say the ending felt a bit too idealistic. Bot Mumei and Ikoma managed to survive without any real losses. I mean he lost that one friend, but overall this felt more like a mid-season finale rather than a true finale. I'm not really sure where Biba was going with plan either. If he really wanted to take control of the capitol he shouldn't have spread all the zombies and giant Mumei to destroy everything. I feel like he just wanted to cause chaos without any real end-goal.

That being said, the animation and production in general on this was just amazing. The character design as well, great to see these retro designs from OG Macross in a modern anime. I feel like a lot people are being a bit too harsh on the characters and story, but despite it's flaws and I guess lack of originality I still had a pretty good time with this

Netoge
I kind of started this just to laugh at the cringy romance, but by the end of the show I actually thought it was pretty decent. I mean I wouldn't call it good in any sense, but it was kind of fun to watch as a guilty please.

Sakamoto-desu ga?
I just had so much fun with this. Doing comedy right is so hard and this show just nails it. There were some misses with the jokes, but there were a lot more hits and among them a lot hit very hard. They did a great job using a simple and silly premise to create some great humor

Space Patrol Luluco
Better than Kiznaiver, thats all I have to say.

Kagewani: Shou
I think they almost had too much of a story with this lol. I enjoyed the more episodic aspects of these horror shorts, but I feel like they were trying to take themselves too seriously with this.

Overall a pretty decent season, but Summer could potentially be better and I still haven't seen anything that tops Shouwa Rakugo yet this year.

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/24/2016 14:49:48)

No One Piece episode this week, sadly. I think it's because it got replace with the Special episode (the Heart of Gold episode, which was enjoyable except for Olga being an annoying brat). But on the bright side: No more of the filler arc (which was alright).

I was so looking forward to this week's episode, because:
spoiler:

it is the beginning of Zou Arc. I am really excited that we're about to begin this fantastic arc.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/26/2016 18:25:03)

i'm part way though heart of gold, by part way i mean 43:00.
i don't think brat is the right word to describe her.
spoiler:

she just go's on like an old lady who can't tell if she's talking outloud or not and considering she's 206 year's old, that's not all that surprising.

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/27/2016 1:19:25)

Be it brat or geezer or whatever term thrown at her, she's still extremely annoying. At least Heart of Gold basically redirected us towards the Gold film settings, which is definitely a film that I'm looking forward to when it comes out (for the web of course). Quite interested in the Gold movie compared to Z's Ambition, which was OK IMO; Gold film looks enjoyable and fun, something I definitely look forward to.

So I've started reading Bleach a while back, and I'm currently on Chapter 245 (with my Summer classes over, I have the time to read through a ton of chapter if I wanted to), and I personally am not too fond with the series for now, but I'm still reading it because I've had the same feeling when I was watching One Piece (things were "Eh" until Water 7 Arc, not that Alabasta or Skypiea Arcs were bad of course). I liked some of the fights in the Rukia Rescue Arc (Like Ichigo vs Zaraki) and I liked how things were getting a bit messy between the Soul Society and the Ryoka, adding the plot twist of what's to be the main antagonist of the arc that I'm reading. I guess for now, I'll just have to read it through and see how it goes.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (7/28/2016 14:17:39)

once you start seeing half the powers in the final arc of bleach, you will be screaming plot hole.
well, it's not half as absurd as torkio's gotten, Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro go's into great detail explaining just how out there the abilities are.

Under the Dog
this clearly needs more of everything.
well, everything except explosions & gunfire.

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (8/4/2016 20:54:07)

One Piece:
spoiler:

Lola is most likely confirmed to be Big Mom's daughter. Wow, le biggest plot twist in fiction history.
But on another note, Big Mom is confirmed to be a DF user; she ate the Soul-Soul Fruit that enables her to extract Souls (or parts of it) from a being and places it onto inanimated objects and even animals (which explains why everything on the Island is "alive")

Bleach:
spoiler:

Holy crap, I've got to feel sorry for those faithful towards the series. The chapter jumped from the conflict into Soul Society without any sorts of mention about the previous chapter's fight. If this is how the series is going to end and people will get pissed about it, then I honestly don't blame them for it).

My Hero Academia:
spoiler:

So Deku is literally a "Black Leg" Sanji for the series; he changed his fighting style and started using his legs.
On top of that, it looks like the students will finally take the Exams to get their licenses. This is going to look very good.

I've also finished with Hellsing Ultimate, and I've loved it more than I liked Hellsing. My only complaint about it were some hit-and-miss comedic moments that really did ruined the "Stuff just got real" atmosphere (they weren't all bad, but some of them were poorly timed; thankfully, there were little of them after episode 5/6). Other than that, I've absolutely loved everything else about it. Now I'm watching The Dawn special episodes.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (8/7/2016 18:26:19)

on one piece @onyx
spoiler:

is it really that surprising? she dose look a lot like big mom

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (8/7/2016 19:31:00)

spoiler:

Eh, she doesn't really look like Big Mom in my case, but I was being a bit sarcastic about it being the biggest plot twist in fiction. ;D
Still, it's now between finding a way to bring Sanji back AND (most likely) ask for Big Mom's help in taking out Kaido, since Lola did said she's going to be a lot helpful.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (8/18/2016 17:08:01)

bleach is over with(finally). some ships have set sail while many have become canon fodder. it's always a good things when ships sink. ending seemed kinda rushed...
i find it funny what fan art manga panda chose to put at the end of it

shadow dragon666 -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (8/20/2016 2:25:22)

Another fun dark horse style manga has gotten its third chapter scanned and released, if you like Berserk and dark tales Goblin slayer is right up that alley.
Only has 3 chapters currently though which is sad...

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (9/9/2016 15:50:08)

JJBA: DiU has been really great so far. Hell, the latest episode is definitely my favorite episode so far, and I know there will be many more episodes that I will love.

Stray Cat -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (9/18/2016 2:21:52)

Super stoked about the announcement of Uchouten Kazoku season 2. Season 1 was perfect in almost every way, particularly the art, which was probably the best art of any PA Works show (which is a pretty big achievement). It's been a while since my last rewatch, but I can still picture the lurid colours of the scenery. Also looking forward to seeing more of Benten, who might be the most fascinating female character in the last few years of anime.

Mordred -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (9/18/2016 2:26:53)

Finally caught up on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is not Crash Unbreakable, and it's really picked up with Kira. I like Part 4, but it always felt aimless, that it lacked real drive for the protagonists to be protagonists. I can see why Yoshikage Kira is Glais' favorite JoJo villain.

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/11/2016 13:05:57)

Even though this was last week's-

One Piece (manga):
spoiler:

Luffy (and Nami) defeated Cracker in the stupidest way possible. I should have seen this one coming, especially when Cracker's DF utilizes food. xD

One Piece (Anime):
spoiler:

Zou Arc has been really cool so far. Granted, some filler/animation errors and stuffs haven't been great, but I'm genuinely impressed about Jack's transformation animation and even Master Nekomamushi's entrance (although Im not too fond over his VA).

And I just started on Magi: Labyrinth of Magic manga, the art is extremely bland and lazy so far. Not too fancy over Aladdin, but if I don't mind characters like Luffy, then he shouldn't really be that problematic (I think). My opinion about this series (so far) is that it's not BAD, but I think it needs to be worked on a bit.

One-Punch Man Anime Dub is finally over, on another note. Outside of Genos' VA, I really do love everyone (including Boros and Saitama's).

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/19/2016 15:13:18)

speaking of one piece, currently catching up with the anime. got though fishman island, a few cross overs, pre-z arc and i'm part way though punk hazard.
it got me thinking of the mysteries in one piece again:
the will of D, the void century, Poneglyphs, devil fruits, Joy Boy, The voice of all things, vega punk & when sanji's exoskeleton is going to emerge.
we can assume that it was vegapunk being arrested over messing with cloning & the Lineage Factor that got vegapunk into being a world government scientist. but one thing that bugs me is how his character is so far. how do we know he is working with the government as anything more then a means to an end? if anything, he seems to just be using them to be able to do his research unhindered.
he left a lab that no one knew about until franky blew his childhood home up & he programed kuma's last wish to protect the thousand sunny, both are things that the world government would not allow
and on the topic of the other "one" anime, one punch man second season is coming

well it only took 127 episodes to get the point of why yugioh arc-v is called arc-v and as to why zuzu, celina, lulu & rin look alike & why yuya, yuto, yugo, and yuri also look alike.

i'm surprised this thread isn't more active

fabri17 -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/27/2016 19:26:26)

So... is anybody else around looking forward to Full Metal Panic's 4th season?

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/28/2016 13:34:58)

i didn't even know there was a 3d... i thought it was just 2 seasons and a spin off

fabri17 -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/28/2016 20:09:33)

Well it can be seen like that too, this upcoming one would be the 3rd canon season.

About the One Piece manga...
spoiler:

After making so many characters dissapear from the spotlight (Brook, Pedro, Jinbei, etc), even with luffy being "tied up", I think we can expect some spectacular soon once we know what everyone's up to

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/29/2016 16:37:29)

I think, at this point, there is someone very important that Big Mom values in her crew (or family, whichever).
spoiler:

For her to have the ability to blackmail people is what makes her a terrifying pirate. The problem is that who's the one providing such informations and how (things like Sanji being on Momoiro Island or his relation with Zeff); either the one providing these information is an espionage in the WG/Marines (similar to Vergo), or the provider has a DF that enables him/her to gain information.

It's hard to say, but to think someone can gain such valuable information that not even the WG can receive is something big.

ShadowMoon -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/31/2016 12:22:57)

you say that, but if you hadn't noticed the WG has more idiots then they do geniuses.
as for sanji's location... well, he was in hell for a few years that's plenty of time for word of him being there to spread a little & as for zeff... didn't he get overjoyed by sanji's wanted poster after ennies lobby & start bragging to random customers about it?

Onyx Darkmatter -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (10/31/2016 23:43:35)

I don't know. They're very good when it comes to censorships and receiving a lot of crucial information (though not all of them).
It's unlikely that word would get out if Sanji was on Momoiro Island, which seems like a secret place that the WG would find, much like Dragon's Base in Baltago. Granted, it is possible that Zeff and the gang wouldn't mind claiming that Sanji worked for them, but I suppose it depends what they say that would spread the word.

fabri17 -> RE: Anime/Manga Recommendation and Discussion Thread (11/16/2016 14:00:49)

Does anybody here read the One Punch Man webcomic? Actually, is that even allowed for this thread?
