Primate Murder -> The Reset (10/24/2019 3:22:42)

As somebody who's never played MechQuest, I am, unfortunately, entirely ignorant as to what the Reset was and how it could impact the game moving forward. Judging by some of the cutscenes in the recent quests, it seems that it may become relevant soon enough.

Can somebody more Lore-savvy summarize the events of the Reset?

HellsWolf666 -> RE: The Reset (10/24/2019 5:53:05)

spoiler:

the final battle ends with the destruction of the entire galaxy, at which point the player is teleported into a protected spaceship with a big red button inside.
you are told that the entire spaceship is basically a storage space that contains a backup of the entire universe and that pressing the button will reset it and reboot the last saved version... however due to some unforseen events the data inside has been compromised and corrupted to the point where it could not be used which forced the computed to use whatever clean files it had to fill in the gaps, what we ended up with was a world of fantasy with dragons and magic and yes, sometimes even a mecha or bit of tech that somehow survived the reset.
the memories from mechquest of the NPCs that were involved has faded away which is why they are not aware or cannot quite recall of the events mentioned.

Thanks!

So, anything I should know about the Shadowscythe mecha Akanthus unearthed?

P.S. I'm not sure if I should give this a spoiler tag... how do you do that?

HellsWolf666 -> RE: The Reset (10/24/2019 10:19:45)

the shadowscythe are beings from the plane of darkness , their goal is to spread darkness and expand into our universe - that is known in both games. their mecha isn't really that special from all i know but remember the fact that those are space traveling war machines that shoot death lasers in a fantasy world and would make for a fantastic "take over the world" doomsday device
as for spoiler tags you just use [ spoiler ] without spaces and end with [ /spoiler ]

TFS -> RE: The Reset (10/24/2019 11:56:21)

It should be noted that the current developer team has stated that you are in no way expected to have played MechQuest in order to understand DragonFable's plot; any MQ nod you see is just that, a nod.
spoiler:

As far as Akanthus's artifact goes, it's only implied to be a part of a Shadowscythe mecha, as you were able to deduce yourself. There are no further specified plot points or information about this specific item that are locked behind MechQuest.

I see, thank you both!

Ace Woodlink -> RE: The Reset (10/25/2019 23:06:16)

spoiler:

There are actually a few NPCs that still have pre-Reset memories: Kordana (during either Wind Orb saga); Safira (revealed in Chapter 12 Mogloween); and Jack Crescent (also Chapter 12 Mogloween), who notably didn't even know that the Reset happened.

Primate Murder -> RE: The Reset (10/26/2019 0:58:09)

Yeah, I rememeber Saphira and Jack (just replayed the Mogloween quests recently), and I just remembered Kordana. Huh, if Kordana remembers, doesn't that mean Cysero does as well? And judging by Warlic's reaction he has at least some memories as well...

HellsWolf666 -> RE: The Reset (10/26/2019 9:19:40)

Kordana is the AI of a mecha that managed to survive the reset so her knowing about it shouldn't come off as a surprise.
as for the rest it does seem like some of the more powerfull NPCs managed to retain their memories be it clear or fuzzy.

cysero is quite the enigma of a character since he seems to be aware of many things that should not be known to the point where he is sometimes used to break the 4th wall

quote:

Cysero: Because it's funnier to leave it as a cliffhanger that we won't come back to for a long while...
Cysero: ... that is necessary to push the overarching plot and mystery further!

actually lock&key refer to cysero in the way his name is spelled in mechquest which only raises more questing about who or what are they

quote:

Key: The green one.
<Character>: His name is Cysero.
Key: We know... SysZero.
<Character>: Cysero.
Key: That's what we said.

Kordana: No, your Artix wouldn’t know about me. Warlic might, it depends on how he merged. But Cysero? Did it land here too?
<Character>: Land here? I think you’re confused again. Cysero is a mage, not a ship.
Kordana: A mage?! Oh, I see! What a clever idea! Tell him hello for me. He should remember me.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain he does.
