Starting Character Types Updated:
This is an exciting week in AQ as we overhaul the 3 starting Classes! Choose from the mighty Fighter, specializing in Melee attacks and relying on brute strength to conquer the battlefield. Perhaps the cunning Rogue is more your playstyle, focusing on speed and accuracy to get the job done. Seeking arcane knowledge that will enable you to cast powerful spells? Then the Mage could be your ideal starting Class!

Drak -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/17/2020 17:41:00)

Only 40 more years until archmage now

Macho Man -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/17/2020 17:50:01)

Wow didn't expect any class updates for a loong long time, this is nice! Maybe the Arch classes aren't completely dead anymore..

Lord Markov -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/17/2020 18:59:06)

This isn't a class update, it's merely an update on the base armors you get when starting the game e.g. Steel Plate, Adventurer Robes, etc.

Macho Man -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/17/2020 19:12:16)

^Ah that makes more sense, a week of updating 3 classes at the same time sounded overkill lol

J9408 -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/17/2020 19:49:32)

Well this is a start. It is nice to see pre existing equipment receive updates.

Primate Murder -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/18/2020 0:33:18)

Man, that Rogue update looks pretty nice.

Also, 2 daggers? Are we getting foreshadowing for dual wielding? ;)

lolerster -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/18/2020 2:07:47)

Assasin class already has dual wielding tbf

OverLordOfDeath -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/18/2020 10:24:31)

Guess we won't be needing the character updates. Assassin class already got the dual wielding part down lol.

The Hollow -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/20/2020 15:11:50)

Release will be rolling soon! We have extra testing to do with any no-drop updates.

Edit: There is a bug with the permanent swapping still being worked on.

Kurtz96 -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/20/2020 22:50:47)

Are the Infinita Staff and Maw of Chaos still coming?

Incantatus -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 2:25:11)

They are taking an infinita amount of time.

The Hollow -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 16:46:01)

We always appreciate your patience! Updated starting character type armors are now available as well as Maw of Chaos and Infinita Staff in the GGBs!

Slayne -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 17:36:04)

I really like the new look for the Rogue [:D]
May have to make it my default no-drop

Digital X -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 18:15:06)

Glad to see these getting the love they deserve, starting types are everyone's foundation and seeing them getting built upon is great! Although I can't remember what I picked all those years ago, most likely Fighter.

Kurtz96 -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 18:22:52)

I equipped the mage robes but they aren't regenerating me any mana. And i am not seeing any increase in magic defense.

Uskius -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 19:08:32)

Even if the changes are only cosmetic, they aren't out yet. Logged out and cleared my cache and then logged in for both the guardian and adventurer servers and everything appears to be exactly the same. But the Maw of Chaos and Infinita Staff are out, if you were waiting for those.

The new looks as seen in the preview are neat, though. It'll be nice to try 'em out once they're released.

Kurtz96 -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 20:51:30)

@Uskius
The cosmetics are out. Go to Yulgar and ask about adventure gear. Then you can load steel plate, leather armor, or cloth robes. Temporary or permanent for tokens.
However, the extra effects don't seem to work yet.

Uskius -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/21/2020 21:53:47)

^ Ah. I'd thought it was meant the Fighter, Rogue and Mage classes that were being updated, and not the basic starting armors. :/ Well, at least they do look nice.

Spiritual Guardian -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/22/2020 8:44:58)

Starting equipment info subs from Kamui:
quote:

Armours, they all scale the same as the Guardian stuff, however they are valued at level -10, minimum of 0, so if you're player level 15, the armour is considered level 5 for scaling. If you are a Guardian and are using it for whatever reason, then it's instead scaled as equal to player's level, and also gets an MC bonus. MC bonus on all of them is +1.5 MRM (not displayed, but does happen) and +2.125 BtH on all weapon attacks/specials/spells.

Plate flavour effect: All your weapon attacks/specials/spells have a -5 BtH lean.
Plate FSB: If using the Adventurer plate no-drop armour, shield, and any of the Adventurer no-drop weapons, then all of your weapon attacks/specials/spells (yes, spells) gain +8.5 BtH.

Leathers flavour effect: All your weapon attacks/specials/spells have a +5 BtH lean.
Leathers FSB: If using the Adventurer leather no-drop armour, shield, and any of the Adventurer no-drop weapons, then all of your Melee/Ranged weapon attacks deal +10% damage, Magic weapon attacks deal +(10/0.75)% damage, spells deal +(10/2)% damage.

Mage Robes flavour effect: You take +(10/1.4)% damage, at end of player turn you passively regen MP = to (10*0.85)% Melee.
Mage Robes FSB: If using the Adventurer mage robes no-drop armour, shield, and any of the Adventurer no-drop weapons, you deal +5% damage with spell attacks, and regen MP = to (10*0.85)% Melee after turns where you did not cast a spell.

Level    5    15    35    55    75    95    115    135    150
Type    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    -    G
PowLvl    5    15    35    55    75    95    115    135    153

MPLvl    5    15    35    55    75    95    115    135    152
MPHeal    3    5    9    14    19    25    31    38    44

Scholar Robes flavour effect: Each time one of weapon attacks, specials, or spells misses, those attacks gain +1 stacking BtH lean, each time one of the mentioned attacks hits, those attacks gain -1 stacking BtH lean. This caps at a max of +15 or -15 BtH lean, and is rolled per hit.
Scholar Robes FSB: If using the Adventurer scholar robes no-drop armour, shield, and any of the Adventurer no-drop weapons, you take -(2.5/1.4)% damage, gain +1.5 MRM (not displayed, but does happen), deal +2.5% damage with weapn attacks/specials/spells (Magic weapons get /0.75 and spells get /2 for this bonus), and your weapon attacks/specials/spells gain +2.125 BtH.

Adventurer shield update, scales the same as the Guardian stuff, but has a level -10 penalty. If the player is a Guardian, this is changed to scale = to your level, and it gains an MC effect of having +3 MRM.

You also are now able to swap to !!! versions of the Adventurer no-drops in Yulgar's if you have an equivalent !!! item.
This will make the item scale the same as the other !!! items, AKA PlayerLv + Guardian boost.

CH4OT1C! -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/22/2020 12:15:43)

With the Mage heal being (10*0.85)% melee, that equates to 44.404mp per turn, for what is essentially a blood cost (you pay in extra incoming damage).For guardians, it scales to your level, gets an additional MC and a Full set bonus...

... in other words, it heals more than the 33mp of the Ultraguardian robes, has an additional MC effect AND a full set bonus. Granted, Ultraguardian is FO, but this definitely feels wrong...

In return for? There has to be a benefit right? All the other armors have a positive effect. And I don't remember ever seeing a purely negative effect in AQ, usually they are used to pay for triggers/compression/damage.

A BtH lean also affects damage. A lean of -5 means your attacks do 1*(85/80) damage, or 106.25%. The leathers have a lean of +5, so they do 1*(85/90) damage, or 94.444%.
Compare it to the Plate FSB of +8.5 BtH. That's a boost, not a lean, so no damage reduction.

Kurtz96 -> RE: Starting Character Types Updated (2/22/2020 13:34:30)

Oh, TIL. Thanks.

I knew I wasn't the only one who thought the revamped UG armors were underwhelming
