Phlynch -> How to make Fishing fun in 3 steps. (2/23/2020 14:58:47)

Fishing as it is now is tedious and frustrating, two things you do not want associated with something that is ostensibly meant to be fun. I have some suggestions to make it more enjoyable.

1: No more empty casts.

If you just got rid of the possibility to get nothing when you cast your line, that one singular change would dramatically improve the fishing experience. Even if those empty casts were all replaced with junk tier fish and the rarer fish didn't get any easier to catch, just getting SOMETHING every time you tried to fish would be in and of itself a huge improvement. You could honestly just implement this one change on it's own and that would "fix" fishing.

But since we're here, why not go all in and give it a full overhaul?

2: Move fishing to Pointe Les Isle

Moving fishing to its own dedicated zone gets fishers out of the way of people trying to quest in Lolosia, and gets people trying to quest in Lolosia out of the way of fishers. Also by putting the fishing points along the shore of a deserted island instead of back and forth on a cluttered dock, it makes the experience of fishing less annoying.

3:Make better rewards for fishing.

As it stands, the only uses for fish are fishing ranks and the Tasty Whale Pop. This is good right now because fishing is currently tedious and frustrating so the less you have to do it the better. But if fishing were fixed to actually be an enjoyable experience, players would want to be able to get rewarded for spending their time on it.

My suggestion is have Faith buy fish in exchange for fishing coins, and then fishing coins could be exchanged for "civilian" style cosmetic equipment, like the ones the villager NPCs in various towns wear. That gives a tangible reward for participating in fishing that's just as non-serious as fishing itself, and makes those NPC styles available to players.

These three changes could dramatically improve the experience of fishing in this game, making it something people actually love to sink time into instead of a slog people put themselves through for completion's sake.
