Wasn't sure of where to put this.

So, let's pretend there's a shiny new sword weapon out. It has really fancy art, but... it's auto-hit and deals Harm damage. According to the info-subs it "deals -30% damage for the auto-hit, and a further -10% for dealing Harm. It deals +8% damage for being 0-proc, and deals a further +15% in exchange for the player taking +(15/1.4)% damage. MC is a flat +5% damage. Melee/Magic toggle, standard damage and accuracy leans."

Now, my questions are: what would a technically balanced auto-hit Harm weapon do to the game, and would it even be good for said weapon to be released?

uh, I mean you literally answered your own question. It would do something like 86% damage of a regular 0% proc weapon that makes you take 10.7% additional damage. I can't imagine such a weapon being overpowered, so I don't think it will really do anything to the game balance.

To answer the questions

Very little in terms of outright competitiveness. The tradeoffs between M/R/M and elemental defence means those monsters with high M/R/M typically have lower resistances. That means you'll likely do more damage with a more standard auto-hit anyway. I think the niche this weapon would fill is certainty and stability; the chances of a monster not taking damage from this weapon is really really low.

From a practical perspective, I doubt it would be. @Kamui typically prefers one stand-out point/theme with any item released: the compression mechanic of compression weapons, the recovery mechanic of revenant, and so on. Having Autohit and Harm damage would be considered two stand-out points/themes, so I doubt it would be released. In terms of a gameplay perspective, would certain make weapon based skills that follow your weapon element interesting...

Harm damage is only useful in niche cases, since most of the time it deals less damage than an enemy's elemental weakness. I don't really see how this proposal would be that broken compared to weapons like Zealot's Wrath.
