BlackwingMF -> Regarding Akanthus (4/13/2020 1:39:55)

So the games done well to hide Akanthus identity. Who he is and exactly where he comes from. There were some rumors floating around about who he is but I can't find much to go on. So, I noticed on a replay of a quest, where he converses with the emissary to Jaania, after the gala incident. Looking at the close up, he seems to have green eyes. Does anyone happen to remember maybe.. a flashback of a quest, or a scene from the past of a green eyed male who was maybe around jaania, warlic, xan? Also wasn't sure where exactly to put this as it could open up spoilers for newer or returning players. I'd like to hear peoples theories on akanthus origin.

Akanthus has been a mystery for us too. The only person who looked similar to him for me was that guy from Theano's flashback story.

But what we know is that Akanthus is from Azaveyr, he was on a trial and hates the Magesterium.

I can't help but think its someone we know, or has been mentioned. I'm really interested in the climax of akanthus story, and so far hes had my attention more than any other villain to date (Likely because we've been on book 3 for so long, but I digress). I'm envious of anyone who has insider info on the making of the game! Dragonfable on a narrative side is still one of my favorite to date. If only the forum was active like it was in 2013, there'd be more ideas and theories bouncing around in a larger group discussion.

ProbablyCallum -> RE: Regarding Akanthus (4/13/2020 13:10:05)

its been said by devs several times over the years that akanthus is not anyone we know and is a new character

I see, I was unaware. Was inactive for many years.

Dont forget that besides the new dialogue with the magisterium member, Akanthus also has 2 other hinted at backstories:

quote:

Saellah: You want to be harsh? I can be that too, you know. You taught me bitterness and harshness a long time ago. Don't try to take that back now.
Akanthus: We did... have fun together, didn't we?
Saellah: I doubt the rest of Lore would agree that what we did was fun... But it was.
Akanthus: Your hatred got the best of you.

quote:

Magus Neron: Akanthus... Akanthus is different.
Magus Neron: I can... understand his... aversion to magic with the stories he told of the southern continent but his methods are... archaic.
<Character>: The southern continent?
Magus Neron: Yes, his Emperor sent him here after the Day of Darkness, when Sepulchure's dracolich ate the sun...
Magus Neron: ... he came to me for a burn salve and told stories of giants that demanded tribute...
Magus Neron: ... humongous elemental titans, and dragons that wreaked havoc across the country side.
Magus Neron: He watched as his parents were consumed by fire and almost died himself... it's why he never takes off his helm.
Magus Neron: The amount of pain and anger in his voice almost make me think his scars rival Xan's....
<Character>: I... had heard a different story...

As the hero is hinting at, there are many possible backstories hinted at for Akanthus, some might be possibly created by himself to obfuscate his true identity .

^It's also been stated that Akanthus lies to everyone about his origin; we can conclude that only Saellah and the Magester Bolemira have accurate accounts of his true backstory because only they knew him before he became Akanthus.

Another interesting detail about Akanthus is that the protagonist has never directly met, interacted with, or even seen him - the way this is teased in the Tournament of Champions makes it clear that this is deliberate and may play a role in the future. Is Akanthus avoiding the protagonist? If so, why? Just because (due to outside confirmation and not something you'd know just by playing the game) the hero does not know him, that doesn't mean he doesn't know the hero.

Interesting.. Well I guess only time will tell. Hopefully Dragonfable keeps on a path of good content creation and we can sooner rather then later hit the end of book 3. Very intrigued by a few loose ends in the story waiting to be tied off. My curiousity is getting the better of me.

Chinx -> RE: Regarding Akanthus (4/17/2020 23:55:46)

Magester Bolemira is the same person Roirr jumped into before becoming *that* elemental spirit, right? Is it possible her memories are also accessed by that person and that they know who Akanthus really is? Just some thoughts because we are close to that part of the timeline where every Magester bites the dust and the first weaver came to be.
