Rahkshimaster999 -> Paladin Order Tiering? (4/26/2020 20:30:37)

So I've recently decided to work on Class Redesign ideas, and was working on Paladin High Lord. My understanding of the game is that PHLs are above regular Paladins but below ArchPaladins. However, when I posted the link to my doc on the AQW Reddit a gentleman argued that PHLs were to his understanding a rank above ArchPaladins. I pulled up the description for Shadowscythe General, which mentions that "Paladins, Lightcasters, and even High Lords tremble before you" which to me implies that ArchPaladins are stronger than all three within the game lore as they are not mentioned as being concerned with facing down an SSG. He responded by citing that the PHLs are said to lead the Paladin Order, implying that ArchPaladins are the highest you can go WITHOUT being a PHL, headcanoning that all PHLs are ArchPaladins, but not all ArchPaladins are PHLs. Since PHL is a HeroMart Class and they stopped caring about HeroMart Classes linking to the lore of the game after PSlayer, the in-game info on it is minimal, so with nowhere else to go I turned here, which brings me to my question.
Can anyone give me anything official regarding the ranking of the Paladin Order? I specifically need to know the relation between Paladin High Lords and ArchPaladins. Just theorizing or speculation isn't really going to help me as the answer drastically alters my redesign for PHL so I'm not interested in making those changes unless I have something with the same weight as an in-game or dev-based confirmation that Paladin High Lords rank above ArchPaladins.
...Thanks to anyone who can help by the way.

If you are familiar with the skills of ShadowScythe General, the Undead Rebirth's Shadow Seal blocks both Paladin Highlord's Light Wave and Archpaladin's Righteous Seal, it is evidence of those light abilities being below that of SSG, at the same time both Purifying Flame, Commandment and Sacred Magic are not blocked, thus offers no evidence of a difference in rank between the two.

In likeness with comparing varieties of Melee, Ranged or Magic classes of different combat style and/or elemental realm, they cannot be compared in a way to indicate superiority.

Archpaladin's class description states its one of the Paladin's Order highest ranks, this alone indicates that the highest ranks comprises of not one type of Paladin.
Unless its an expansion to the inherited theme of effects/playstyle backed by in-game Lore and/or prerequisites, this is evident in Archpaladin requiring Paladin rank 10 as lower level training and has higher potency skills in comparison, namely Paladin's to Highlord/Archpaladin 's debuffs in damage, hit/crit chance, it does not support a claim that one is of higher rank.

My advice is to base your suggestions off of expanding on Paladin/Highlord 's flavor to set it apart from Archpaladin.

Its documented that successful suggestions are those addressing evidence backed concerns of a class struggling with design issues such as changing mana regeneration models as Chunin's -hit chance/-haste are at odds with the 3 mana from receiving a hit and Evolved Clawsuit's stacks/damage buffs don't affect regen, and making Chunin/Grenadier 's skills consistent in the number of targets as the range of one, two and three targets produces inconsistent output and increases health loss reducing survivability.

I will mention that the majority of revamps or updates of older classes do not take in consideration of a player's take in the suggestion thread due the majority lacking the concept of balance and/or knowledge of the game's standards among power, cooldown and cost, the current class designers are competent in coming up with refreshing designs and overall balance.

I see, thank you for the insight.

I'm striving to work on making the redesigns I put together hold to the game's standard of balance, particularly with my first redesign attempt, PaladinSlayer. I have my current iteration in a public Google Doc here if anyone here would care to provide their own input - I posted it on the AQW Reddit initially for feedback and received an overly positive reception, for what little that means, and also some good criticism that I was able to take into account. Ultimately, I want to make sure that whatever redesign I do is done properly and carefully, as I like to consider myself a writer and so take game lore and worldbuilding very seriously, so hopefully I can at least give the class designers some ideas for future work.
