For some additional news, the Dragonlorn Keep summer event now has a quest hub at Warlic's shop! It will remain there permanently after it's complete in a few more quests.

This storyline takes place after Burning Solstice and the Paladin quests, and as such is best played after talking to Sage Uldor about the former! However, releases have been ordered in such a way that this won't spoil Paladin's quests for you!

Nice to see a boss that isn't dead to a nuke, and having a house guard is always good since we have so few of them (though I don't know why there is only a level 150 version). I have a few question on the mechanics of this type of boss:

Is this a hard damage cap like essence of wind dragon?
If it is:
Is there a reason hard damage caps are not listed on the status page like soft damage caps are?
Is there a reason to give Diamond Dog a damage cap rather that just extremely low resistances (darkness at 2% and everything else at 1%)?

The Backlash is based on the damage received from the player before the hard cap, therefore low resistance would reduce backlash's effectiveness to a similar single digit value before the hard cap.

Fun fact, this was originally my plan for the Essence of Earth Dragon back before we dropped plans of making them all like Wind.

1) Hard damage caps aren't technically a status -- they'd hard-coded to the monster. I could put up a notification that does nothing other than tell you it, but *shrugs*
2) A 1% mod would mean that you can still go fully offensive, it just means doing 10 damage instead of 1000. The point is to make a fight that favours defensive options.

Diamond Dog
Hard damage cap is 2 hp per hit (darkness element) or 1 hp per hit (other elements).

Diamond Dog has the power to make player bleed (subject to save test) on its sp attack.

Oh, but I do hope that you all would reconsider the decision to update the rest of the dragon essences with their own different properties as well, doesn't seem right that Wind is stronger than the rest.

YES! I was waiting for part 1 to come back, now I get to start this arc!

And I heard there are other paralyzing light pets? Is this diamond dog's paralysis the best or is there another?

Well that was a tedious battle. Did the fight make anyone's game lag a lot?

This boss definitely favors defensive beast builds. Ended up using Neko armor for FD light + Call Death Flair for 4 hits (plus, monster can't be Dazed so it always uses the 4 hit attack) + Legendary Pygmy Zombies for 3 hits.

So the monster doesn't have a damage cap on heal. I found out the hard way when my Mana Golem healed with 43 points with its attack lol. Maybe we should have a weapon or item that deals positive heal damage to monsters :o

Another set up for magi could be scrambled the resistance to use the Gradient Sphere Staff from Fading Warlic that has a 6 hit special.

Limit Buster has a 15 hit special right? Hmmm

Another way to do the fight is with items that can infllict Fragile (-End) for those who have them. Surprisingly, Diamond Dog does not have immunity to them.

Absolute Darkness made the fight a joke. Cast it enough times and you can just leisurely beat on it while it constantly misses you.

I used Neko with bleed/burn toggles, foam finger and strawberry shieldcake. I just used the two defense abilities from the shield and baked to avoid backlash. As a result he couldn't hurt me at all, took awhile though lol

Why use Foam Finger though? Doesn't it do a flat 1 or 2 damage?

Wonder if Peace Zard would be interesting to use here. Would help reduce Backlash and since you only do 1-2 damage, shouldn't affect the overall outcome.

Fragile is a good strategy though

^I was mainly using the bake feature to skip my attack so I thought why not foam finger, couldn't hurt :P

And yeah fragile is a great strategy.

Using Pridesmatic yoyo (Must-have-b4-rare), death flair(guest) and Dark Visor.

Pridesmatic Yoyo might be the only must-have-b4-rare weapon that inflicts prismatic burns.

Very interesting boss. I agree with the people above that this definitely favors defensive characters. Coincidentally, that's how I play my character. Looks like I have a new pet and a new L150 guard for my house because, why not?

I know this is a lot to ask but is there a possibility to get a Guest version of the pet too? We are lacking good effect based light guests at end level and Mogsterio is nice but that HP backlash is considerable for a 0 END build

^Even at 100 END it is still harsh. I sometimes hesitate to use Mogsterio.

I think Diamond dog would be a great guest.

Yeah I use the angel bells guest and man is he annoying giving celerity all the time. A guest of diamond dog would be great.

I also agree with Diamond Dog guest. Because Mogsterio's HP cost happens randomly a few unlucky turns could kill you, especially if they happen to coincide with a boss nuke.
